problems at the border

As of this morning, another border official bites the dust.

This morning, ACTING head of U.S. Customs and Border Protection John Sanders resigned due to public outrage over the terrible conditions that migrant children were living in. His deputy, Robert Perez, is also an ACTING (not confirmed) deputy.

Sander's predecessor, Kenin McAleenan, left in April to become ACTING head of Homeland Security.

Other key DHS agencies also have interim or acting directors, including U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.

CBP is the agency that apprehends and first detains migrant parents and children crossing the Mexican border.

ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement also has an ACTING director, who is Mark Morgan. ICE had planned to arrest hundreds of people this week, but Trump put the operation on hold for a few weeks. Former ICE acting director Thomas Homan, a Trump administration ally, then went on television to accuse McAleenan of leaking information about the operation because he opposed it.

By now, it's fairly apparent that very few people in Trump's administration actually have a PERMANENT job.

It wasn't too many weeks ago that Trump appointed neo Nazi Stephen Miller as "immigration czar", and now he has replaced by someone else.

Is n't it a bit strange that Miller is the only survivor around Trump? I guess he loves those types as well as Kim.

They found again some dead body's near the border; an mother and two kids; they showed the pictures for 2 seconds on TV. However these pictures are now published world wide and were also on the Dutch TV for much longer than 2 seconds.

Trump forgets that the whole world now knows what the US does to these people and have no longer any respect for this country.

I guess only a few people here do care; but not Trump and his cronies, only "money" counts for them.

In addition, a 25 year old man from El Salvador and his 2 year old daughter drowned while trying to cross the Rio Grande. His family had been waiting in Mexico for TWO MONTHS for a U.S. immigration review. His 21 year old wife watched them drown.

After waiting desperately for two months in a migrant camp Ramírez crossed the lethal currents near Matamoros first with his child before returning to other the side for his wife Tania Vanessa Ávalos, 21.

But their youngster, misunderstanding why she had been left on the other side got back into the water and Ramírez fatefully went in to save her.

Yes, lots of them can't swim and have "heat" problems and dehydration; I'm afraid more of this will happen, in July and August (over 100 degrees). ICE takes away food and water, if they find it on the "trail"; I call this premeditated "murder".

Why is the UN not involved in all of this? They were in Syria helping refugee's; so why not here?

Yes the the picture of the dead father and child are now all over Europe. You just have to guess what they are thinking over there. The strange thing is that Europe adopted millions of refugee's (due to our instigated wars) and gave them shelter and in some cases "money" and food as well an place to live. But here they complain already over the few we get here at the border and don't know how to deal with it. Shame is not known here. "Make America great again"; the opposite is true.

Of course the Republicans blame everyone (also Obama) except themselves. They took the aid away from those countries to prevent all of this; this is the effect. Just keep voting for Trump and his murderous cronies; Miller can be proud of himself.

E.J. Montini, of the Arizona Republic, had a few comments about dad and his daughter today.

    Here is the key part:

"There are those who disagree with publication of the photo, who say it is exploitative and plays unfairly on people’s emotions.

    They’re wrong.

If our humanity does not play into the discussion of those who die in places like the Rio Grande, or the thousands lost in the desert southwest, then it's because we have none. And those risking everything to reach our shores have sadly misjudged us.

And worse, we have misjudged ourselves."

Here is an YouTube story which gives an idea how things are:

Mark Morgan, the White House choice to lead Immigration and Customs Enforcement, said during a Fox News interview earlier this year that he can judge the likelihood that an unaccompanied minor will become a gang member by looking into that child's eyes.

The comment surfaced Thursday as part of a broader review of Morgan's public utterances by HuffPost. The outlet found Morgan notched nearly 100 television and radio appearances after a series of interviews with Tucker Carlson.

Here's another one of those good new/bad news stories.

    Good news:

A federal judge in Northern California on Friday permanently blocked the Trump administration from using $2.5 billion in contested funding to build barriers along the United States’ southwestern border, dealing a blow to the White House’s efforts to fund a border wall without congressional approval.

    Bad news:

One of the traits of a narcissistic personality is that they have no empathy for other people. Steve Benson's cartoon yesterday morning actually sums up Trump's true feeling about refugees:

    Now ..

Here is "the rest of the story":

The mother of the man who drowned in the Rio Grande was just interviewed. Although she begged him not to go, he felt that he really had no choice. Although he lived in a neighborhood that was controlled by a gang that enriched itself through drug-dealing, extortion, and violence, his main reason for leaving was that he simply could not make enough in El Salvador to support his family - and Trump just cut off aid to the 3 Central American countries that needed it to improve the lives of its citizens.

"El Salvador" in English, incidentally, means "the savior", but "the savior " seems to be missing in action.

Governor Ducey claimed that there was a crisis at the border this week, so he sent in the National Guard.

Supervisors from the four border counties, part of what is called the Arizona Border Counties Coalition, sent Ducey a letter expressing their opposition to sending in the National Guard.

    They wrote in part:

“We are disappointed that you failed to consult with the various Boards of Supervisors of each border county on this matter. If asked, we would have requested assistance for transportation services specifically buses and drivers to provide those transportation services that we are now left to arrange on our own.

“Based on our experience, the Arizona National Guard is not needed for security or providing those tasks required of the federal government. We would ask you to reconsider this matter and provide immediate transportation services for asylum seekers that are released into the smaller communities of our border counties so that these individuals can be safely transported to transitional shelters operated largely by our faith based communities.”

Likewise, sheriffs from two of the border counties said the Guard wasn’t needed and declined Ducey’s offer of troops.

Sheriff David Hathaway of Santa Cruz County and Sheriff Chris Nanos of Pima County told the governor thanks, but no thanks.

Hathaway said, “We both responded saying, ‘We don’t have a migrant crisis on the border. We do not need to militarize our counties and have troops come to the border.’ ”
