The title of the "thread" was; how it could "evolve" into disaster. Yes we are in an "disaster" right now; I absolutely don't see how the election in November could be "honest" and straightforward. The whole "game" is already an huge mess and indeed will evolve into an bigger mess for sure with all these GOP lunatics. Sorry people, Jesus is on vacation on Mars and has no time for this tiny globe; you are on your own. Good luck! Go find your Easter eggs, they are may be hidden under the empty shelves at the store. At least Trump will enjoy this holiday, because he's got the basement of the W.H. filled to the ceiling with toilet paper; he needs it because he's full of shit. Crying

Where I live there are Trump signs in many yards. Full size flags on flag poles also. It's April so it's not about the election it's a mindset. It's disturbing to see the mentality. Many have suggested that we may one day have an updated civil war between the massively divided population. There's deep division and it's troubling. A great leader would try to unite the people. Our current leader wants to be an appeal to those who are certain to vote and those who will fund his self serving agenda.

The Daily Kos published an article today that really spells trouble for the Republican Party.

    Here are the key points:

    1) Fifteen hundred people are still dying every day—or a 9/11 every two days. Meanwhile, much of that declining death toll has come from New York and New Jersey, but new hot spots are flaring up in other states, meaning the worst of the pandemic is just shifting from metro New York to new areas. This thing is far from over.

And then there’s the economy, of course, with 40 million new people jobless, and with a Republican Senate and White House literally claiming that there’s no urgency for new aid to people, states, and municipalities. It boggles the mind. And people are paying attention. Here are Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s national favorability ratings:

27-58! To compare, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi—supposedly a boogeyman—is at a respectable (for a partisan national leader) 40-53. That means that McConnell is a net 18-points more unpopular than Pelosi—despite her being featured in a billion Republican attack ads over the last decade.

Trump himself is trending down. The shift is subtle, but public opinion on the presidency moves very little. Any movement is significant, particularly when the seven battleground states are 50-50 propositions.

So yes, Trump’s botched coronavirus response is deeply damaging to Republicans. And it’s damaging them where they can least afford it. Looking at that coronavirus response map, let’s focus on the seven battleground states:

    ARIZONA 38% satisfied, 60% unsatisfied -22

    FLORIDA 42-57 - -15

    GEORGIA 44-55- - 11

    MICHIGAN 39-59 -20

    NORTH CAROLINA 40-58 -18

    PENNSYLVANIA 37-61 -25

    WISCONSIN 39-59 -20

All seven battleground states are in double-digit net negative territory. The states with a net negative rating of 20 or higher—Arizona, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin—total 57 electoral college votes. If presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden flipped those seats and nothing else, he would win the presidency 289-249.

    Here are the Senate battlegrounds:

    Here are the Senate battlegrounds:

    ARIZONA*38% satisfied, 60% unsatisfied-22

    COLORADO*35-64 -29

    GEORGIA*44-55 -11

    IOWA40-58 -18

    KANSAS48-50 -2

    MAINE*40-58 -18

    MONTANA46-52 -6

    NORTH CAROLINA*40-58 -18

    South Carolina - 44-54 - 10

If there was any hope that reopening the country would bring Republicans any relief in the polls, that’s not happening. And it’s not just Civiqs polling seeing that. It’s all the polling.

Apparently, being dead or unemployed are just not really that popular. Go figure.

Sorry to be negative, but all these numbers can change in 10 minutes if something happens between now an November.

For instance: Trump opens up the churches; all of a sudden the churches get the "virus" and lots of them die. Then the numbers change drastically. However if no one in these churches gets the "virus", then Trump wins and will be praised into "heaven". Since a lot of the idiots here are indoctrinated by these churches anyway and can't analyse or think clear then they will vote for him regardless if other people die, because a long dead Jesus (turned to dust) has sent this mafia idiot to earth.

Arizona, your statement about being dead or sick does not seem to count with the Trump "mafia"; they are even more fanatic than ever and refuse to wear masks; the only thing what counts, is that their "savior" who was sent from Mars, wins. Talk about la la land. I bet at least 75% of the people here have no clue or researched Trump's background, but vote for him because what they see on FOX News, Breitbart, Sinclair, or The National Inquirer. etc.

Where are the brains in this country?

By now, it's obvious that Trump will try to do everything that he can to get re-elected.

Fortunately, a group of worst-case scenario planners — mostly Democrats, but some anti-Trump Republicans as well — have been gaming out various doomsday options for the 2020 presidential election

Mr. Biden, for his part, has suggested more than once that Mr. Trump might try to disrupt or delay the election. And his campaign grew very concerned this month when it was announced that election security briefings, which in past cycles had been delivered to candidates by the F.B.I. and the Department of Homeland Security, would now be the province of the director of national intelligence. That post is currently held by John Ratcliffe, a Trump ally who was confirmed to the position on Thursday. Mr. Ratcliffe was among the president’s chief Fox News defenders during the Russia investigation and has been a sharp critic of the F.B.I.

Yes that is exactly the case; due to the "fact" that he and McConnell spent lots of time to make sure that in every section of the government as well outside the government "loyalists" are placed. He pretty well succeeded in doing that. Then of course the big question comes on how this influences the "election" as well if (an real "if") Biden wins, how is he be able to undo all off this. It will be extremely difficult to "start" an Democratic government from scratch. Thus if I was Biden, I would make sure to have an solid plan to totally revamp all of this; if not he will be just an "puppet" of the Republicans (Trump party) they will just "play" with him. If McConnell stays he will continue to "play" the Democrats the same as under Obama as well now.

Since Biden is still short 440 delegates, I hope the Dem's wake up and start thinking if this candidate puts them even in more shit than as now is the case.

Trump continues to be his own worst enemy.

He began a solemn Memorial Day railing against North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper, a Democrat, ahead of the 2020 Republican National Convention, threatening to pull it out of Charlotte, where the convention is expected to be held August 24 to 27.

Trump contended that Cooper is "unable to guarantee" that the arena can be filled to capacity

In an interview last week, Cooper said that data and science will guide his decisions on whether the state can hold large gatherings like the convention. He said the Republican convention, which he supported bringing to Charlotte, will be treated like any other event.

"This is not political. This is not emotional. This is based on health experts, data and science and that's it for everybody to see," Cooper told CNN. "No one is being favored or disfavored over the other."

Cooper, who is also up for reelection in November, has taken a slower and more measured approach in reopening businesses than Republican governors in neighboring states. On Friday evening, he began allowing restaurants, barber shops and salons to open with limitations, while gyms, bars and movie theaters will remain closed.

Both Cooper and the Democratic mayor of Charlotte, Vi Lyles, said their recommendations and decisions about the convention will be guided by science, not politics.

Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel told reporters the RNC, Trump campaign, and host committee are moving "full steam ahead" in convention planning, but will assess in late June or early July as to whether contingencies need to be made due to the coronavirus.

Naturally, Trump wants reassurance from the governor in a week's time.

If your memory is good, you may remember that many cities were reluctant to bid on the convention, for a variety of reason.

The GOP held an “Interested Cities Day” about the Republican National Convention Jan. 30 in Washington, D.C. Representatives from Charlotte, Las Vegas, Milwaukee, St. Louis, Dallas, Nashville and Phoenix attended, according to Ryan Mahoney, a GOP spokesperson.

In the spring, Brad Parscale, President Trump’s 2020 campaign manager, lobbied for San Antonio to make a late bid. The City Council declined to bid. Before council members voted in closed session, Hispanic activists said the city should not bid due to the Trump administration’s push to build a wall on the border with Mexico.

After San Antonio did not bid, it appears the GOP was left with two possibilities: Charlotte and Las Vegas.

If Trump decides to move the convention, the most likely substitutes would be Georgia and Florida, both of us have rushed ahead with re-opening. Moving would irritate his supporters in North Carolina, and moving would also irritate people in the other two states, who are concerned about the spread of the virus.

Sorry, these conventions are nothing but an "propaganda" event and absolutely does not make this an more "honest" well run country. Instead it will make it even more chaotic. But yeah "money" is again the driver instead of "honest" elections without "money and "hoepla". Just let votes count without the electoral college involved. But of course they never will learn here.
