"Stoning the messenger" is an action that likely dates back to Biblical times, but it still has relevance today. Essentially, it involves treating people harshly who bring us bad news. In the era of Trump, of course, that happens a lot, but a clip on Facebook this morning referenced a young lady that we don't think about much anymore.

    Sinead O'Connor.

"Crooks and Liars" published an article back in January that described what happened at a concert in New York shortly after O'Connor criticized the Catholic church's silence on sexual abuse by the clergy. The crowd was not happy that O'Connor had torn up a picture of the pope on her recent SNL appearance. The booing was so loud that she was unable to perform for an extended period of time.

She was able to perform only after Kris Kristofferson put his arm around her and told her "not to let the bastards get you down". Well before the Gillette ad targeting "toxic masculinity", Kristofferson demonstrated how a REAL man treats women.

The Me Too Movement has brought down numerous sexual predators, but so far has not brought down one of the worst offenders, "cadet bone spurs", who personifies the very definition of toxic masculinity.

O'Connor changed her name to Shuhada Davitt when she converted to Islam last year. Her life story makes for VERY interesting reading.

I saw at Fareed an "graph" which showed that more and more people claim to have "no religion" the factor is now 26% ; it slowly outgrows the people with religion. Knowing such should be an message as well, to keep religion out of "governing.

This has been the "trend" in Europe in decades; lots of churches are being rebuilt into apartments for the less wealthy and refugee's.

But yeah as long you have the Pence types and some other fanatic preachers as well the Barr types things won't change.

So I hope that the Catholics get the picture that this is not only an murderous church in their past, but hypocritical as well about choir boys. Their objective has always been get as much "property" an "wealth", not the "mental" well being of the "poor" as well don't focus on the"reality" in this world. Selling "snake oil" made fortunes for them.

I don't know if what people read hereon is relevant, but after reading the thread posts, a few things came to mind, one was a Dire Straits song "Ticket To Heaven", another was Sinead converting to Islam, and another was why would a woman convert to Islam knowing that that religion believes in abusing and stoning women-sometimes to their death as well as men too, it's confusing to me.

Dire Straits "Ticket To Heaven" lyrics:

I can see what you're looking to find
in the smile on my face
    in my peace of mind
    in my state of grace
    I send what I can
to the man from the ministry
    he's a part of heaven's plan
    and he talks to me

now I send what I can to the man
    with the diamond ring
    he's a part of heaven's plan
    and he sure can sing
now it's all I can afford
but the lord has sent me eternity
it's to save the little children
    in a poor country

    I got my
    and everlasting life
I got a ride all the way to paradise

    I got my
    and everlasting life
    all the way to paradise

now there's nothing left for luxuries
nothing left to pay my heating bill
but the good lord will provide
    I know he will
    so send what you can
to the man with the diamond ring
they're tuning in across the land
    to hear him sing

    I got my
    and everlasting life
I got a ride all the way to paradise
    I got my
    and everlasting life
    all the way to paradise

General Comment from the song meanings website.

"I think this one is pretty straightforward. It's a commentary on televangelists manipulating poorer, less educated people with God as the selling point. People hoping to go to heaven and find God send their money to these televangelists, sending themselves even closer toward being paupers while these manipulators get rich. Very critical and very sad in its way. I think it's inspired by the televangelist scandals that occurred around the time of this album's release."

There are still televangelists being aired on my local television channels. e.g. the size of the seed you sow will have an effect on what you reap. in other words, if you donate large amounts of money, your harvest will be greater than if you only donated a little bit.

Like the Qur'an the Bible also demands "stoning to death" for such crimes as working on the sabbath, sorcery, rebellious children, blasphemy, and idolatry. Yes you read that right -- stoning to death rebellious children who do not obey their parents. It's in the Bible.

It was the primary means of punishment in those days some 2000 years ago (and over 3,000 years ago in some cases) when the Jewish, Christian and Islamic scriptures were all written by as many 40 different authors in the case of the Bible. It is always contentious when I argue the points with certain Christians who, like the televangelists, cite the Bible as being "God's work"...that they can cherry pick certain Biblical phrases to make their case but dismiss others such as the stoning punishments for various crimes.

"Stoning to death" was to those ancient cultures what "hanging" was (or is) to our more recent "civilized culture". Ha.

PS -- From what I have read about Donald Trump's upbringing, he was a "rebellious child".

" the size of the seed you sow will have an effect on what you reap"

I've watched that particular preacher multiple times. It is unbelievable what he says? Even though there is separation of church and state I think there are laws that can be pursued to incarcerate him. He doesn't warn that the seed money is not guaranteed but there is a disclaimer at the end of the program. Both this preacher and Trump abused Democracy by lying to get support. In the very first part of Trump's campaign he said he wouldn't raise the minimum wage because he wanted to keep USA wages low and competitive. Two weeks later he came out with "Lots of good paying jobs".
