Patrick Carlineo Jr. of Addson, N.Y. has been arrested and charged with threatening to kill Representative Ilhan Omar from Minnesota, who happens to be a Muslim. https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/new-york-man-charged-with-threatening-to-kill-rep-ilhan-omar/2019/04/06/5bcc05a4-5890-11e9-814f-e2f46684196e_story.html?utm_term=.bbea386966ee Omar has been subject to Islamic smears since taking office, and "crazier than a hoot owl" Jeanine Pirro suggested that Omar believes in sharia law because she wears a hijab. That comment, fortunately, caused Pirro to get suspended for two weeks from FOX. One day after Carlineo was arrested, Trump proclaimed that Omar "doesn't like Israel", which ignores the fact that Trump himself has disparaged Jews NUMEROUS times: https://www.timesofisrael.com/donald-trumps-anti-semitism-controversies-a-timeline/ If you want further proof that Trump has REALLY descended deeper into insanity, look no further than his speech yesterday to the REPUBLICAN Jewish Coalition in Las Vegas: https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2019/04/trump-republican-jewish-coalition-netanyahu-your-prime-minister.html

Al Jazeera reported this morning that ANOTHER Trump supporter, John Kless, has threatened several Democratic members of congress. On top of that, he defended the guy who rammed his car into a group of protestors in Charlottesville in August of 2017. In one of the messages that he sent, Kless said that he would like to throw Omar off the Empire State Building, according to local media. Kless, who reportedly defended President Donald Trump in the messages and warned the politicians to stop criticizing the president, has been charged with making threatening communications. Many analysts have pointed to the US president's heated rhetoric as the catalyst for a toxic atmosphere encouraging such behavior - an accusation the White House has rejected. Last year, the Anti-Defamation League said all perpetrators who carried out at least 50 "extremism-related murders" were linked to the far right. That total marked the largest number of people killed by the far right since 1995, the watchdog said. https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2019/04/man-arrested-threatening-democratic-politicians-190419234316461.html A quick scan of his messages (see below) will confirm the fact that he is not the brightest guy in the world. https://heavy.com/NEWS/2019/04/JOHN-KLESS/

Preliminary reports say that the attackers of Christian churches in Sri Lanka (ISIS) were hoping to avenge the killings of 50 Muslims in a shooting spree at two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, in March. https://www.nytimes.com/2019/04/23/world/asia/sri-lanka-bombing.html?smid=nytcore-ios-share If you went back to March , you might remember that the Christchurch shooter had written a manifesto praising Trump. The 74-page dossier, which has been described by Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison as a "work of hate", hailed Trump as "a symbol of renewed white identity and common purpose". https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2019/03/zealand-mosques-attack-suspect-praised-trump-manifesto-190315100143150.html Last October, a gunman in Pittsburgh killed 11 worshipers at a synagogue in Pittsburgh. For weeks before the shooting, Robert Bowers targeted Jews in frequent posts on Gab, a social media platform that bills itself as "the free speech social network." He used anti-Semitic slurs, complained that President Donald Trump was surrounded by too many Jewish people and blamed Jews for helping migrant caravans in Central America. https://www.cnn.com/2018/10/28/us/pittsburgh-synagogue-shooting/index.html Since Trump's inauguration, anti-Semitic incidents increased by 60% in 2017. Anti-Semitic incidents spiked at the beginning of the year, in the months following President Donald Trump’s inauguration. In fact, a previous ADL report found an 86 per cent increase in incidents in the first three months of 2017. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/anti-semitism-hate-crime-harassment-attacks-rise-increase-jewish-anti-defamation-league-a8231871.html Trump is certainly not the only person guilty of religious bigotry, but his comments have emboldened all the crazy people both here and abroad. Words DO matter.

Boy, can I pick 'em. News reports this morning said that the shooter was a 19 year old WHITE MALE, who used an AR-15. He also was a follower of white nationalist sites. https://www.nytimes.com/2019/04/27/us/poway-synagogue-shooting.html?smid=nytcore-ios-share His published manifesto is definitely creepy: https://washingtonpress.com/2019/04/27/the-poway-synagogue-shooters-manifesto-just-surfaced/

He should be held responsible for destroying the respect of the office. He calls out as admirable having respect for the flag yet he makes a mockery of the most important office in the world. Connecting that office to murder and mayhem .

Another story about why words matter relates to a headline that the NYT published this past Tuesday. The headline read, "Trump Urges Unity vs. Racism". The editors quickly came under fire because the headline was too nice to Trump. “Headlines like this ignore all the context of #Trump’s actions and past remarks, make him suddenly look presidential,” Jerry Lanson, a professor emeritus of journalism at Emerson College, tweeted. “The Times should know better.” They quickly revised the headline to this: "“Assailing Hate but Not Guns.” I agree that it is a more suitable headline. https://www.nytimes.com/2019/08/06/reader-center/trump-mass-shootings-headline.html?action=click&module=Well&pgtype=Homepage§ion=Reader%20Center
