While Trump gets everything for his constituents I hear we don't really want that much so vote for us Democratics. The only chance to win 2020 is Bernie promising people what they deserve. Anything else gives it to Trump.

I don't know what you mean; yes "promises" are not always kept; some "promises" as Trump did, may have an unwanted effect for the "normal" working man. So that is life in "paradise"Crying!

Yes Bernie can be elected telling people what they want to hear. The idealism of the Bernie voter will come to a crashing end when Bernie is not able to deliver on one single campaign promise. That's the reality of a divided Congress. Bernie voters live in "la la land" if the really believe Bernie will be able to deliver on campaign promises. However, I'll concede it's a good political strategy to pander to the uninformed. It helped get Trump elected.

Schmidt, Conditions are bad and getting worse for the middle class. Instead of continually saying what Bernie can't do why not support him and push for more Senate and Congress victories. Would you have opposes FDR? It is almost inconceivable that Bernie is doing so well in spite of so much Democratic opposition. I understand your skin in the game concept but that is neither valid or fair when applied to healthcare . Do you think people would abuse free health care? Thousands of people suffering more and dying earlier because they can't afford health care is punishment and genocide on poor people. Absolutely no excuse for people being denied healthcare .

Biggest opposition to a 2020 win comes from Trump and moderate Democrats . Trump and conservative Democrats are an unholy alliance.

Said Schmidt: "Yes Bernie can be elected telling people what they want to hear. "

It's a no brainer. Elect the total opposite to Trump, Bernie Sanders. Any other choice is giving in to Trump and giving Trump 2020. Trump can't argue against Bernie. Once people learn that being fair is not socialism and being Trump is a dictatorial fascist plutocratic choice we win.

Chet -- I am a realist. I can do the math. So give me your honest opinion about Democrats flipping 13 Senate seats in the 2020 election. Most likely we'll win two and lose one. We have an outside chance of maybe picking up two more in pink states if all the conditions are right. But it's a long shot to think we might take a majority in the Senate...doable but maybe 20 percent (my guess). But the chances of getting a 60 seat filibuster proof majority are ZERO.

What I don't like about Bernie's speeches as they are full of "I wills"...promises he knows he cannot keep. That's the same as Trump...promises, promises and then lies.

Oh and FDR had veto proof majorities in Congress. It makes a big difference in "promises".

So save your moral preaching for Mitch McConnell and your Republican friends (if you have any Trump friends).

Yes, there is the perception, right or wrong, that Sanders is the left's version of DT. His hardcore followers would believe him if he pronounced the world to be flat. He is mainly an idealist, and less a realist. He see's many of his top issues to be non-negotiable issues, on par with civil rights for minorities or equal rights for women; there is no middle ground to comprise on. The perception for his hardcore supporters is he is a modern day Martin Luther King who would never compromise that blacks only have to sit at back of the bus 50% of the time. When specific issues rise to that level of being a moral injustice, there is no backing down. Same can be said about DT and the extreme right, except DT is a total con. DT is the carpetbagger that pretends to be many things he is not (and never will be), and DT intentionally elevates all issues to a moral imperative status.

New York Times, April 3, 2019: Trump’s Takeover of the Republican Party Is Almost Complete

"In every state important to the 2020 race, Mr. Trump and his lieutenants are in firm control of the Republican electoral machinery, and they are taking steps to extend and tighten their grip. It is, in every institutional sense, Mr. Trump’s party."

As the NYT article discusses, Trump is in complete control of the party and is going all out to win the election. He controls the Republican Party apparatus in every state, and we will witness a campaign that glorifies Trump and Republicans and attacks Democratic opponents. He wants to take back the House and increase his majority in the Senate.

Democrats must be unified to beat him. We need to run a positive campaign on the issues, and not just an anti-Trump campaign. We must target Independents and moderate Republicans to expand the party. Essentially it is a campaign to win the hearts and minds of the middle of the political spectrum. Running a self described socialist for President is a losing proposition.

Sure, like I said, how are you going to fight the "mob"; I guess not by being "nice". Sorry we need an "mob" fighter, but I've not seen one yet; Bloomberg would have been good, but is not running. Anyone else?

"and not just an anti-Trump campaign"

Schmidt: From the very beginning in 2015 and all through the election I stressed here and asked you to use your influence to tell the DNC that "Anti Trump Campaign is Useless". Every time Trump did something that everybody said "He's finished" he came back stronger. Attacking Trump is stupid and a losing tactic.

Then I said he is using what should be the Democratic Battle Cry. "Lots of good paying jobs".

The only way to beat Trump is to agree with him and then out promise him. He is going to campaign again with what should be the DNC platform. He said the GOP is going to be the Health Care party. Pure bullshit. The Democratic party has always been the defender of health care. Trump is on record saying that if a person can't pay for Medical insurance they won't be denied by him. The only way to beat him is to promise free healthcare . Anything else and Trump is guaranteed a 2020 victory.

"Don't attack Trump. Agree and out promise him on whatever he says. The Democratic Party has the history supporting everything he is going to promise. Attack and lose"

Try and understand the Trump phenomenon. Attacking makes him stronger and builds his support.

    Schmidt said

That is a response I would expect from somebody that was so wrong about 2016. If you had listened to me Hillary would be president today . Conservatives in the DNC acted like the GOP and denied the working poor a fair chance for Life Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. Skin in the game is right wing saying if you can't pay you don't play.
