Carlitos -- Yes, I expect that there will be more revelations about Beto O'Rourke. I'm not sure if high school baggage is enough to disqualify him, but it does raise questions of character. We are what we are genetically, and we use our sense of right and wrong to temper what may be our natural "animal" instincts. It's why it is important to see how candidates operate under stress and when tired. That's when we need clear thinkers...that 3:00 am phone call.

I won't dismiss Beto O'Rourke entirely, but I'll keep my eye on him. I hate to be one engaging in purity tests, but at the same time we cannot be dismissive. I believe Bernie Sanders has baggage as well, but none that would be a character flaw.

I’ve got a 19 month old which probably influences my calculus. I’ve read and reread all of his text files. I just don’t think you get to be president after writing something like that, or shouldn’t be. Most of the Beto people I know in Texas are unmoved and point to Trump. But the Democratic Party is supposed to have higher standards than Trump. I don’t think Beto meets that standard knowing what we know now.

Well we had a "Blue Wave" of young, energetic and diverse members elected to Congress, many of them women. We take pride in that diversity and call the Republicans the "party of old white men".

So who are the two top candidates polling on the Democratic ticket?

    76 year old Joe Biden

    77 year old Bernie Sanders

Maybe we'll have a rerun of 2016 except in the place of Hillary we'll substitute Biden.

Yes Schmidt, sorry to say you are right; we need an energetic person somewhere in the 50's who's got worldwide experience/stamina/realty of governing as well has an clean background and does not spew B.S. Where do you find someone like that nowadays?

If there was somebody like that they would already be known. It is not very profitable to claim the system you live in is unfair.

There's always Steve Bullock waiting when we have ruled out everyone else. Check him out.

On paper he may beat several of the others if he decides to run. I don't know how "charismatic" he is, not that that matters to me, but it does to much of the populace.

Remember his name as the campaigns move ahead. The cream rises to the top, sometimes slowly when there has been a lot of churn.

Biden and Sanders are 2 leaders in current polling. If they don't connect with and truly reach the 18 - 45 year old voters, the serious problem is disassociated persons who never complain about the local restaurant but never spend a minute or a dime at it.

Just being a better choice isn't enough.

Not odd that someone mentions the 18 to 45 age group, in Chicago's mayoral primary, voter turnout was the second worst of any time previous, why? Millennials stayed home, kept working or kept texting, too busy to get their noses out of other people's business on their smartphones, they just didn't come out to vote, and why? Look at the candidates, another Daley for mayor? please, no thanks. Now there's two African American women in the runoff election, and I don't believe or think either one would be favored by white voters, the only inspiring African American who ever ran for Chicago's mayor, and won by receiving as much as 69% of the white votes was Harold Washington, and I believe he was a great mayor.

Millennials will probably come out and vote for a far left fringe candidate for president, and give trump 4 more years.

Beto O'rourke personifies Elmer Gantry and has a personality disorder that afflicted out country in Donald Trump. Charisma. O'Rourke is the biggest joke being played on the country. But people can't bring themselves to logically evaluate him. No Sunday morning I saw brought up his fantasizing murdering children. He will come up against a conflict that he can't cajole himself out of and he will end. In his terms he was born for this. Elmer Gantry.

His congressional record was middle of the road .

Too many people are dying from lack of medicine and healthcare for that to happen. Too many people have graduated from college into poverty for that to happen. Too many people can't afford to live for that to happen. There is no disconnect between the masses and suffering .

My speculation is the ticket will be a combination of older and younger, and Male and Female. There are various combinations there. Unlikely to be two men, or two women. Nor two over 65 , or two sub 60.

But hell any Democratic combination looks far far better than Trump and Pence.... that is such a mind boggling odd couple ticket for so many reasons; a pathological con artist and homophobic racist. Trump thinks he has the obligation to sexually harass all women (because women love being harassed), and Pence & wife have their own bedrooms since the day they were married.

O'Rourke is not worth the time it took to write this to consider him for President.

Thanks for sharing the link Chet. On those 8 issues I am with him. Still need to dig deeper.

He seems to be getting lots of media time on MSNBC at least. No complaints there.

Too early to endorse him though.

All this "talk" will change over 12 month; I bet the only one still running at that time is Trump on the golf course. (Or moved to Moscow?)

Beto was said to have raised a lot of money after declaring he was running. To me the overpowering message is not so much about him but the huge desire to have someone new. It will be interesting to see the whole process unfold.

This is a marathon just to get to the nomination, then another half marathon to get to WH. Need to plan accordingly.

    TJ:

Beto raised over $6 million over a 24 hour period. To me, that is fairly remarkable.
