    We were warned.

Several news outlets warned us that William Barr, a conservative Catholic, is not much of a believer in separating church from state. The most recent story appeared in Patheos on February 13:

    https://www.patheos.com/blogs/progressivesecularhumanist/2019/02/theocracy-alert-senate-votes-to-advance-attorney-general-nominee-william-barr/

As you read through the article, you'll notice that he sounds a lot like Mike Pence, and possibly as nutty as Rick Santorum. Unfortunately, that did not prevent the Senate from confirming his appointment on February 14:

    https://www.nytimes.com/2019/02/14/us/politics/william-barr-confirmed.html

I'd say "God help us all", but that no longer seems like an appropriate comment.

If you have forgotten why Rick Santorum is bat shit crazy, these quotes will help you remember. Since January 2017, he has been an analyst for CNN, which seems to be an awfully odd fit.

Santorum's biography provides ample evidence why he would have been a terrible president (he ran in 2012 and 2016). Being a good Catholic boy, Santorum and his wife have had 8 children.

Shaking my old head; yes Republican Catholics are strange creatures; they are not "normal" because one part of their brain belongs to the church and they do believe in very strange things written on goat skin by weird people . But yeah " witches" were burned at the stake by this church; so Trump uses this "witch hunt" statement; probably Pence told him to use that word. I guess the "mob"s favorite churches are the Catholic ones.

This Barr guy is and will be an total obstructionist; catholic religious people should never be allowed to run a country . History shows what then happens, ask Joan of Arc or the Templars.

Adding to the other articles above, AG nominee William Barr in 1992 CNN interview: Roe v. Wade ‘will fall’

“I think that Roe v. Wade will ultimately be overturned,” Barr said on CNN’s “Evans & Novak.” “I think it’ll fall of its own weight. It does not have any constitutional underpinnings.”

That was 1992. Once a Barr...always a Barr. Another in the long line of "strict constitutionalists."

Will we go back to "coat hanger" abortions?

Now that Bill Barr is running the Department of Justice, it didn't take the department very long to exempt Trump's hotels from the ban on Foreign payments.

Just as a reminder, the Emoluments Clause (Article 1, Section 9, Clause 8) has been part of the U.S. Constitution for a long time.

    Remember these words, Donald?

“I, Donald Trump, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God.”

Yes, everything Trump touches dies, as it said in this article again.

Even though McConnell is unlikely to bring an impeachment vote in the Senate, it actually would make sense for the House to impeach both William Barr AND Steve Mnuchin. The reasons for doing so are in the last paragraph, and could also be applied to Donald Trump, even though it would be very difficult to remove a sitting president from office.

Yes, however add to the "impeachments" McConnell and Mulvany who do carry out Trumps demands.

One of Trump's nuclear options is to have Barr appoint a special council to investigate the FBI for political corruption. Barr (and Trump) would hand pick the special council team. Imagine what if Barr appointed Rudy Giuliani to head a Special Council . If not Giuliani, you can bet it would be someone like him or Barr. In other words, stack the deck to ensure the Special Council has a predetermined result even before investigating. How about investigating Barack Obama's birth certificate with a Special Council determination that it was fake.

IMO, its comes down to Trump's tax returns. If democrats insist on getting them, Trump will let it be known he will have Barr unleash as many investigations as needed to ensure democrats back down. Trump's tax returns are his Rubicon. He will set Washington DC and the entire country on fire before he his tax return are made public. Nothing is off the table when his taxes are on the line.

Washington Post, May 13, 2019: : Barr taps U.S. attorney in Connecticut to investigate origins of Russia probe

"Attorney General Barr has tapped John H. Durham, the U.S. attorney for the District of Connecticut, to investigate the origins of the special counsel’s probe into Russian interference in the 2016 election...to ensure the U.S. government’s “intelligence collection activities” related to the Trump campaign were “lawful and appropriate.” a person familiar with the decision said."

Barr most likely took orders from Trump to "investigate the investigators". Dunham has a good reputation for seeking the truth...a "dogged career prosecutor". Trump will propagandize the investigation at every turn, calling attention to it to set the impression that the investigators are guilty because he should never have been investigated in the first place. It will play well with his base...a rallying cry. The more the investigation drags without closure the better.

    This is classic Trump...

It's has become high stakes a crap shoot. Durham could be upstanding, straight arrow, like Mueller appears to have been. Or, Durham might have been tapped because Trump sees has similar qualities to Barr; someone who understands what Trump\Barr are expecting, which is find something no matter how trivial for trump to claim as evidence to a "witch hunt", and not conclude his investigation until he does. And when interviewed by congress, he is expected to spin everything to suggest the whole past two years is a witch hunt, even if all he has in terms of facts is Trump's conspiracy theories and intel already discovered by Mueller\FBI.

Which man will Durham be? A man like Mueller, or a man like Trump?

Comey's theory's (CNN Town meeting) is that Barr is no fool, and Barr does see Trump as a con man, idiot, and a total fuckup, but Barr is willing become like Trump in order to keep Trump from doing really bad shit that truly would mean the end of the Republican party.

Comey's theory is that Barr perceives himself as unsung hero that is keeping Trump contained within acceptable boundaries, and adopting Trump's language because it feeds Trump's massive hungry ego to hear powerful men such as Barr use phrases\words like "FBI is spying on Donald Trump" or "There was no collusion". Barr is on Trump's team. When Trump hears Barr talking like him, its like a shot of heroin into Trump's ego system. Comey's theory is that Barr understands Trump is an ego junkie, so Barr feeds Trump ego on a regular basis, but it also means Barr is fucking over congress (and the country) at the same time with the rationalization that Congress will outlast Trump in the long run, but if someone does not contain Trump, the Republican party could be destroyed by 2020.

Unless Trump launches nuclear weapons, the US will survive the Trump era, but Trump very well could destroy the entire Republican party by making it the party of wackos, racists, sexist, homophobes, etc. Centris Repubublican voters either form a new party, or they become swing voters like Democratic swing voters who are left leaning moderates.

In otherwords, Comey is suggesting that Barr is a spy that gotten into Trump's inner circle.

Only one word is sufficient: CHAOS.
