Any candidate that promises the world for free deserves to lose in a landslide.

I'm for single payer, but we have to be honest with ourselves about how it'll be paid for. Taxing the "millionaires and billionaires" alone will not fund it no matter how much Bernie insists.

I'm for massive government subsidies to make tuition actually affordable again in the same way it was back in my parents day. Their tuition wasn't "free" though. The government heavily subsidized their educations, but they still had some skin in the game. I'm for "free" tuition for any student who sits at a certain percent on the federal poverty line though. But remember - "free" means We, the People pay for it. I'm A-OK with that, but again, let's be honest.

I'm for creating a living wage, but I think it needs to be based on statistics and not some random number that covers all fifty states. Fifteen dollars an hour in Portland is a heck of a lot different than fifteen dollars an hour in Miles City, Montana.

All I'm suggesting is maybe, just maybe, promising all of these things without being honest about how they will be funded isn't the best idea.

Your best shot in 16 went up against a clown and lost because nothing was offered to the people that stagnated for 50 years. Ignore the people and elect another Trump.

Chet, as Trump said; "This country should not be "socialistic"; so there is your answer. I guess people here have no clue what the word "social" means. It simply means "share" the wealth; not hoard it by a few. So forget any "social" thinking here; it is : me, me, me>. Let alone that they give other countries help or breathing room. Wars and threats are so much more fun as well ripping babies from their mothers arms an building razor wire fences. But yeah time will tell; future history books will tell the story of the demise of this country.

There is a fascination, affection and protection for wealth. Dynasty trusts had been illegal but guess what:

"Until recently, though, even the Rockefellers couldn't use dynasty trusts, as they were illegal in most states. Trusts were often subject to the "Rule Against Perpetuities," which effectively limited trust terms to about 90 to 120 years."

Every possible scheme possible is played by the GOP to take money out of the economy and flow it up to the wealthy. Hedge funds, derivatives, dynasty trusts, executive compensation committees and more all take money from the jobs producing economy and stagnate it with the wealthh. The purpose of money is to facilitate the trading of goods and services, not impoverish people and create misery and suffering. It is simple common sense that money is supposed to be spent.

Anyone in the Democratic Party still asking “how are you going to pay for that” is helping to elect Republicans who are not about to self-limit their agenda.

Deficit Terrorist Democrats are a cancer on our Party and the Nation.

Since the Great Depression, Deficit Terrorist beliefs and predictions have repeatedly failed and never came to fruition.

The simple and most obvious reason why is Defict Terrorists do not understand how fiscal and monetary operations actually work or they have a subversive agenda - so it’s an intelligence or character issue.

I’m not asking “how are you going to pay for that?” What I’m asking is “how do you expect to get 218 votes in the House and 60 votes in the Senate” for that?

We are not a monarchy. A single politician can’t waive a wand and magically make all of their promises become a reality.

That’s why I loathe Bernie. He promised his gullible supporters the world, but was never once honest about how difficult getting even one of his promises enacted into law would be.

The simplest thing in the world is to pay for anything. All that has to be done is take the country back and start passing laws to convict robbers like Wells Fargo CEO John Stumpf and force big money back to work. All the trillions of dollars tied up in get rich schemes have to be legislated into national interest goods and services businesses. This is a nation of people not a dedicated oligarchic plutocracy. The worst Bernie is better than the best of any body else except AOC. The party offered nothing in 2016 and that was why Trump got elected.

Don't be naïve here, we all know that democrats are up against republicans in furthering socialist - progressive ideas, we need them to partner with us to get anything passed in the congress. We need republicans as much as they need us to get any bills passed. And that is a fact. If we didn't need republicans, no bills would ever have been signed into law. I can think of only one instance in modern times when we didn't need republicans, and that was passage of the ACA, when democrats had a majority in the house and senate, and not one republican voted in favor of the ACA. We also had a democrat president too, which helped a lot.

How many Republicans voted for the Affordable Care Act?

    quora.com/How-many-Republicans-voted-fo...

"No republicans voted for the ACA at all, either in the house or the Senate."

I guess this blows a hole into your cliché of "Deficit Terrorist Democrats"

We're not that at all, but we understand that when we're dealing with a party of NO, we'll need the party of NO to get anything done. Unless of course we take all the people who align themselves a republicans or right wingers out to the alley and shoot them all in the back and attempt a one - single party rule of laws, but then, wouldn't that be like a dictatorship?

I know, I know, other countries have free this and free that, and we're far behind those countries because of the manner in which this country is governed.

10,000 a month out of pocket for some drugs and that isn't close to the most expensive. You want to make an issue of how Bernie can't pay???? Make an issue out of the millions of people that can't pay to live. Right now everybody with compassion should be organising for full support behind Bernie or Elizabeth. And every potential candidate or candidate should withdraw immediately.

Money is being treated as a means to facilitate the exchange of goods and services. That has never changed. Show me when and where that stopped happening.

Outside of Schmidt, you are all Deficit Terrorist Democracts.

The “Affordable Care Act” has never been affordable for working people because Deficit Terrorist Democrats self-required it to be “paid for.”

If you want to win Republican votes, we can bridge that a payroll tax holiday on workers and businesses should be universally accepted. But Deficit Terrorist Democrats will never accept that because they think that Social Security and Medicare will be bankrupt and that there’s no other way to do things - that’s just idiocy.

We need to stop giving the Republicans a run for their money as the stupid party.

No we're not, read the post before yours. And stop the name calling and stop the calling out of other members using this forum, you know as well as anyone that we democrats have to have republicans onboard with our proposals of everything legislated. When you say "we" you're being inclusive, except the "we" on the other side of the aisle, the GOP. I would propose cutting the defense bills passed and throwing that money toward better things for this country, we have enough bombs and technology to kill everyone globally 1000 times over, why not use that defense spending on trying to prolong people's lives? How about that?

Carlitos; I guess you live in an different world. "deficits" in this country are mostly loans which have to be paid back to someone (or other countries) with "interest". Just printing money to pay it back, will de-valuate the currency. Example Venezuela. So if you don't care about deficits, go live there.

Also don't forget that "deficits' right now are created by stupidity; wasting money on Trump ( his wasted trips, outings, rally's) have cost the tax payer by now well over 500 million, sending troops to the border again millions, wasting it on "war" junk for which there is no return on investment as well giving the "wealthy" huge tax cuts ( which money seldom flows back into the "society" spending most of it in other countries buying yachts etc.); all of this does not help the society. In the end regardless of your idea's someone has to cough up that money, if you like it or not.

Your idea that "money grows on trees", does not cut it, ask Hitler or Trump or Maduro how to not manage an society.
