What do people here think of Pelosi's political tactic of not immediately sending the articles of impeachment to Senate until some deal is reached about how the Senate trial will proceed.

Lot of rumors are been flying around about the WH's instructions to McConnel as how the trial should be handled. Can you imagine what a Senate trial would look like if Donald Trump had full control over the proceedings? It would be a $100 million reality show, where he writes the script, hand picks all the witteness, and only allows statements that have been pre-approved by him personally, etc, etc you get the idea. It would be the biggest political show\rally\farce in the history of the US. Hell, it might even include military victory parade where all the top US generals knee before him as they give a him purple heart medal and then read a script written for them by Trump.

That's exactly what Trump & Mc Connell are doing, they're writing the script for the senate trial. Is there any doubt? This is turning into total bullshit. Americans should be outraged.

Here is what the US Constitution says about a Senate trial.
    ARTICLE I, SECTION 3

"The Senate shall have the sole power to try all impeachments"

This is it. Nothing more specific.

That is partly why I alluded to it becoming a reality show with Trump being the executive producer, producer, writer, and star. And during his self-controlled trial, it's just one big extradeaza about how the Democrats framed Donald Trump with their dirty and illegal political tricks. Think of it as the Republican national convention with unlimited budget and the narrative fully under the control of Donald Trump with the Democrats being nothing more than props that he can point at and call names. Trump: "Look at shifty Shift with his fat ugly dog right next to him.... Opps, that is his wife. Hard to tell them apart .....HAHAHAHA!!"

Sorry all of this awful circus could have been prevented by making "real" solid laws for incoming Presidents; like making it mandatory to produce tax returns as well get an professional "mental" check and "background" check. In this country every "idiot" can become President; the proof is in the pudding. But yeah just continue with all this shit costing fortunes without any result. Yes people, you elected an "mafia" type and now you are in deep shit because of the worthless laws here.

As many people already said the "thing" in the Senate is an total farce; again it shows that "detailed" laws to do these things are non existent. If this is supposed to be an court case ; then it never should be that the "Judge" (McConnell) is in "bed" with the accused and can totally decide on how the case it is "organized". As well that the GOP members are "bought" by the accused and are members of the "cult"

You still call this an normal country? I doubt it!!!

Wake up America; start making proper laws; it is no longer 1800!!!

Well Trump more-or-less agrees with you. He thinks the US Constitution is old and outdated and needs a good old fashioned book burning party. He intends to personally write a new constitution himself. "The US Constitution is a piece of crap written by some really old geezers in white wigs, and it has too many pages". Trump's plan is to get rid of the three branches of government, and just have one branch- Executive Branch. In Trump's Constitution, the president makes all the decisions, and everybody in the government is under him. He is the Law, The Court, and everything else. He has full, unrestricted, authority. No more term limits, a president is elected for life, then he appoints the next president.

BTW, his stump speech for convincing voters is that under Donald Trump's New Constitution there is no taxes period. Everything is paid for through tariffs on goods imported from other countries. He calls it the perfect government, which he plans to name "The United States of Donald Trump".

Trump's base loves the idea. They also are convinced the world is flat, and science has been lying about it for over 200 years.

I warned many times that an "dictatorship" is around the corner; however the Republicans think it is an great idea. If they love the Russian dictatorship so much they should go live there. I guess they have no idea what this means. They've totally forgotten what Hitler and Stalin did. If the people and the government keeps closing their eyes for it then I wish this country good luck.

Politico, December 23rd: House counsel suggests Trump could be impeached again

Assuming that the House Judiciary Committee can compel McGahn to testify before them...

“If McGahn’s testimony produces new evidence supporting the conclusion that President Trump committed impeachable offenses that are not covered by the Articles approved by the House, the Committee will proceed accordingly — including, if necessary, by considering whether to recommend new articles of impeachment."

Wow, this would really be something. He could brag that he was not only the first president to be impeached in his first term of office, he could also go down in history as the only President impeached twice in one term.

    Schmidt:

Interesting, but it may not be necessary if the Democrats can get McGahn to testify during the senate trial.

Another smart move on Pelosi's part would be to appoint Justine Amash as one of the impeachment managers. Here is why:

I suggest strongly that they make an long "list" of all other impeachable offences. Have those ready and "add" those to the other two and have the House vote for those as well. Furthermore research the "murders" of Epstein (his family knows a lot more) as well Khashogi and the Deutsche Bank guy and the Ukrainian "woman" who knew too much. Then force the tax returns to see the light of day. There should be somewhere "means" to get these; is there no "shame" at all in the corrupted "justice" system to keep "stonewalling" this.

Also the "bribes" and "payoffs" committed by Trump for the Senators as well "buying" votes should be part of the "articles". Let alone the "human" suffering crimes committed at the border; ripping kids from their parents and have them locked up in tents while it is freezing.

Crimes galore; but you can't get rid of this criminal? What kind of country is this? Is there no shame and anyone with brains who can make an real court case out of this and not an McConnell Kentucky circus.

On the morning of the infamous call between Trump and Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky, July 25, 2019, Trump tweeted about a Fox News poll claiming that the US was enjoying “best Economy in DECADES.” The same poll ALSO said that Biden had a “commanding” lead for the Democratic presidential nomination and that he would beat Trump by 10 points in a general election. An hour after Trump’s tweet, he pressed Zelensky to investigate Hunter Biden.

Senator Chuck Schumer said on Monday that newly released emails showing that military aid to Ukraine was suspended 90 minutes after President Trump demanded “a favor” from Ukraine’s president were “explosive.” They strengthened, he said, Democratic demands for far more internal administration documents ahead of Mr. Trump’s impeachment trial.

In a nutshell, this is what happened on July 25:

    1) Trump read a FOX poll that said that Joe Biden would beat him by 10 points.

    2) Roughly an hour later, he called Zellensky, and asked for a favor.

    3) 90 minutes after the call ended, he suspended aid to Ukraine.

While I agree that could he be impeached for multiple reasons, the political bar would be much much higher to make a second attempt, and Trumps knows it. Once the Senate lets him off the hook, IMO, he is free to double down on every criminal act and unethical he wants. I look it as taking all but 1 black slots on roulette wheel, and all Trump needs to do is hit white when he spins the wheel. Who is going to bet against him not winning with those odds.... Or I shall ask the question in a very realistic way: After the Senate clears Trump, what acts would be bad enough for House bring impeachment charges again? And I bet Trump would even brazenly taunt Democrats by openly doing things that are clearly illegal and immoral, knowing they will sit there taking it upthe ass as he F/s over innocent people for personal gain.

wwjd -- I don't know if there is any point in the process that the Republicans could break rank like they did against Nixon. It is always party first...it has been that way for a longtime. There indeed could be even more overwhelming evidence unearthed, some perhaps testimonies by Bolton himself, that would justify a second round of impeachment inquires, but none of it will make a difference to Congressional Republicans. Some I'm sure probably hate the bastard, but they just cannot go against their party. This is what is so astounding to me...facts do not matter one iota. The guy could shoot someone on fifth avenue and they would ask what he did to deserve it.

I was pondering what a history books might say in just 1-2 years. In States where Trump overwhelming won, a history book better not say very much other than "President Donald Trump was impeached, but found not guilty by the Senate". The controversy surrounding Donald Trumps will remain for a long time after he is out of office largely because Trump himself will, by his own actions, keep the spot light himself for remainder of his life. He will break laws, and the US congress and elected President, will be faced with the question: "What we do when a former president is clearly breaking laws for personal gain?".... Who does not see that happening once Trump is out of office? Does anyone think he going to stop doing rallies promoting his personal agenda while threatening Republicans who even so much as grumble about him? IMO, Trump will never stop, in or out of office. It will never end.

Trump is cancer in human form. The closer a person is to Trump, there is ever increasing likelihood they will become corrupt\cancerous themselves, or find their life destroyed by the cancer. There is no good outcome for anybody other than Trump. Cancer never destroys itself, it only spreads and kills all that healthly and good. Cancer never make lives better, or turn a loser into a winner. At best, Cancer can only project an illusion through deception; cancer only has one purpose, to destroy all that is healthy.

Well said, indeed the guy is an walking "cancer" in this society. However the "system" with its outdated laws allows this.

Thus an self inflicted wound over and over again, because no one tackles the "cause", which is the totally outdated "system" which makes it virtually impossible to remove this "cancer". Our forefathers never anticipated "monsters" like Trump and therefore Constitutions don't work if you don't update them to reflect different times. Amen
