    Schmidt,

i am not keeping track but seems the JG is now supported by more Dems than not.

We can thank Stephanie Kelton for that.

Instead of a jobs guarantee why not a tax code that influences a productive use of money. Any propsed social program suffers a trip through Congress where the right essentially destroys the purpose. A look at the original welfare legislation reveals how the right destroyed the purpose of a program intended to help people.

Business Insider, January 10, 2019: Wall Street should love the economic theory Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez backs — and that should worry the rest of us

Carlitos -- Yes Rep Ocasio-Cortez is indeed an advocate of MMT as per this Business Insider article. From the article:

"It seems the entire conservative universe is freaking out about Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-New York). They've come up with a lot of reasons for it, but chief among them are her ideas about the economy.

"In an interview with Business Insider, Ocasio-Cortez said modern monetary theory (MMT) should "absolutely" be a part of our conversation about the economy. It's a theory that holds that deficit spending isn't nearly as toxic as we've come to believe over the last 40 years — and that it's, in fact, a useful tool. To manage it, you keep interest rates low, and when the economy runs too hot, you raise taxes.

"That sound you're hearing is 1,000 deficit hawks weeping."

The article goes on to discuss MMT. You can read it at the above link, but if Rep Ocasio-Cortez is an advocate of MMT, she could be a strong voice. She has 2.5 million followers on Twitter -- quite a lot for a 29 year old freshman representative who has only been on the job two weeks. She knows how to use social media to draw attention on important matters and the mainstream media seems to cover her closely.

MSN Money, Bloomberg: Ray Dalio Says Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s Ideas Are Taking Root

"She may not be in Davos, but Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s influence is already being felt on the slopes of the Swiss Alps.

"Three weeks after the Congresswoman for New York called for an income tax rate of as much as 70 percent on the wealthiest Americans, billionaire investor Ray Dalio suggested that the idea may have legs in the run up to the U.S. presidential election.

For the global elite gathered at the World Economic Forum in Davos this week there will be increased pressure to face the problems created by their increasing wealth at the expense of the poor. According to Bloomberg, "the fortunes of a dozen attendees at the World Economic Forum in 2009 have soared by a combined $175 billion", while on the other end of the social spectrum the poorest half of the world saw their wealth fall by 11 percent last year.

Rep Ocasio-Cortez's embrace of tenants of Modern Monetary Theory (MMT) can become a part of her populist following if she can articulate the economic message in terms that her followers can understand. That is a bigger hurdle, but the fact that her message has taken notice at the World Economic Forum is being noticed. Billionaires getting richer at the expense of the poor is something that everyone can understand -- especially Rep Ocasio-Cortez.

Perhaps Ocasio-Cortez will get poor people living income wages.

Rep Ocasio-Cortez needs to be more careful in her statements. This from Fox News as well as just about every right wing website that is monitoring her every word:

“Millennials and people, you know, Gen Z and all these folks that will come after us are looking up and we’re like: ‘The world is gonna end in 12 years if we don’t address climate change and your biggest issue is how are we gonna pay for it?'" Ocasio-Cortez said.

All the right wing media are highlighting her "world is gonna end in 12 years" statement. If Ocasio-Cortez wants to maintain her populist appeal, then she needs to be more wary about how her statements can be used against her. Trump is known for exaggeration. She doesn't need to do "a Trump". It undermines her credibility.

I guess she did get that statement from some religious sect who also claims such. However the timing should be after the "second" coming of Jesus ( but we don't have to wait: Trump is already here) Ha ha.:-P

Rep Ocasio-Cortez just voted "no" on Speaker Pelosi's bill to fund and reopen the government. She was the only Democrat to vote "no". Her reason: it provided funds for ICE, and she campaigned on "abolishing ICE". I can see where her ideological views will sometimes go counter to Pelosi's objectives when some form of compromise is necessary to make progress.

Business Insider: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was the only Democrat to vote 'no' on a bill to reopen the government because it would fund ICE

The far right media will splatter this all over their front pages. They have made the 29 year-old Ocasio-Cortez their favorite target for scorn and vitriol. Chris Matthews had a segment yesterday on how the far right is obsessed with her.

I suppose you could say, the far right views her as "the second coming of Pelosi". Ha.

It would appear that Rep Ocasio-Cortez is placating her base, as some of her prior votes were pointed out as being hypocritical because, perhaps unaware, they included funding for ICE. I just hope she doesn't become a "Trump" -- chained to every campaign promise she made. Compromise is not a four letter word.

I guess she's right; ICE should have already be punished by following up orders which go against our Constitution; they should have refused to separate kids from their parents, but instead "enjoyed" doing so.

Furthermore as Pelosi says; first the shutdown over and then negotiate over border control, then the subject of ICE should also be tabled and an "clear" operation manual with an exact task description should be discussed. Thus the subject of ICE should thus only be tabled after the shutdown, as well the "money" related to it. Ocasio-Cortez is jumping way too soon.

Also Pelosi should stick to her guns and don't give any concessions until after the shutdown; thus no "wall" or more money for other "control" as initial offered. Raising these "offers" with more "money" only gives Trump more leverage, as well he knows the next time to get things his way. This is the American way of negotiating; typical, they have no clue how to negotiate, let alone with the "mafia". I'm afraid the Dem's will get again the short end of the stick because of not having the backbone to stop Trump in his tracks. I've not heard on TV the word "blackmail", are they so afraid to use that word? I guess "naive" is the right word.

Trump won a lot of votes with the promise of "lots of good paying jobs". Alexandia Ocasio-Cortez needs to pick up on that and Trump's promise of health insurance for everybody. A living wage with any shortfall made up on income tax rather than a mandated minimum wage. But #1 she should awaken a sense of compassion for people that don't have 100% healthcare. It is unbelievable that people suffer more and die earlier because healthcare is run on a meritocracy model. Universal healthcare would benefit more than a majority of people so making it an issue is a winning move.

Sarah Sanders suggested that AOC should leave climate change to God.

    AOC's response was masterful:

Sanders as well AOC are both on the wrong track; toss those "bibles". When the "bible" was written by "humans" (only about 4000 years ago and was the first piece of garbage produced), people did not produce the amount of garbage as they do now, or had lots factory exhaust stacks of chemical and other plants ,let alone drove cars had planes and school buses which use fossil fuel, as well did not dump the oceans and waterways with tons of plastic as well toxic chemicals. At that time they only used "natural" things like having an cave, campfire and left some bones of what they hunted. Animals have been around for millions of years, but they never polluted the planet, except for one type of "animal" called "humans". "God" never was involved; thus just an self inflicted wound again by "humans".

Dutch, don't forget that garbage was not a collection of random writings by random authors. That garbage was skillful in offering the faithful "72 virgins" in exchange for their productive obedience, support, suffering and labor.
