Trump is flying to the southern border today ; result "zero". It is time that someone steps up to the plate and does some accounting for all the useless trips this guy makes. Up to now the total cost for all his trips, rally's. golf courses, Mar-a-Lago etc. all for his "own", add up to over 500 million. This trip alone will also cost at least 200 hundred thousand. Don't forget the cost of security for himself etc. (not the border) Obama did not spent such in an 8 year period.

The biggest problem I find is, that people here all find this "normal" since there are no strict enforceable rules for an President, just like as in any banana republic.

The border wall trip is another chance at a photo-op in which he brings his "border guard supporters" on stage to "tell their story" of why the wall is needed. He will reiterate all the campaign rally talking points again and again as the cameras fixate on him. However, more in the media are challenging his assertions, and with the exception perhaps of Fox News, will not let him get away with unfounded allegations.

His prime time address to the nation was planned with a lot of hyperbole, but the news media had already called out his allegations of 4,000 terrorists crossing the southern border that he had planned to dramatize in his "Stephen Miller written speech". Hence his speech was essentially a nothing speech talking about the humanitarian crisis at the border, a crisis that the media is more repeatedly calling of "Trump's own making". The media will not be suckered again when he wants prime time to push his agenda, especially because Trump used it for fund raising.

We'll see if Trump keeps digging a deeper hole for himself at the border today.

Schmidt, I made already a new thread about the photo-op; related to the stupid reporters why are they refusing to ask the right questions, such as : "how much are you making from it?" as well : Do you know how much tax money you are wasting on your useless photo-op; you could have helped quite a few poor people from that wasted money". " how about helping these people in their own country as Obama did, by providing foreign aid as well facilities to register for asylum etc.?"

It is time someone educates these reporters to ask the right questions. To be gentle and nice is no longer an requirement.

    On January 9, Dutch wrote:

"The border problem as it is now was purely created by Trump himself. Obama set up a system in those countries like Honduras, Guatemala etc. for refugee's to be able to apply in these countries itself to get a visa etc. Trump abolished that and also reduces aid to those countries. No wonder those people have no other option then flee their country."

In October, Newsweek published details of the cuts in aid to the 3 countries involved.

    https://www.newsweek.com/how-much-aid-does-us-give-central-america-trump-says-hes-cutting-funding-el-1180732

Cutting aid to these countries is exactly the wrong solution to the problem. El Salvador has one of the highest murder rates in the world. Dozens of policemen are killed every year by gang members, so the ones that are left are fleeing the country. Since even the police can't protect them, citizens have no choice but to try to seek asylum elsewhere. By reducing aid to the 3 countries involved, we are only making the border crisis problem worse, and Trump's wall will do nothing to slow it down.

I guess the people here like to stay dumb. trump uses every "tool" he can find to get an "wall". Just like Arizona wrote about what I wrote before, the "trick' of Trump is to indeed get more and more refugees at the border to proof it is an"emergency" by not having "visa's" available in those countries itself , let alone give aid as Obama did to prevent all of this. He solely wants this "border wall" for his own wallet. He gets "billions" back pocket money out of it, via the contractors he approved. No one wants to believe me , but that is the main reason for his extreme "push" to get this "wall". Nothing else. He will cover his "tracks" and gets away with it as now with the pay off to the "hookers", because the Dem's are way to "honest" and ignorant of what is happening right in front of their noses.

According to this morning's Washington Post, U.S. officials said that aid to El Salvador helped slow migration. Trump said "aid hadn't done a thing for us", a claim which baffled development officials and Salvadorans.

Now he is talking about sealing the entire border, an idea captured perfectly by Steve Benson this morning:

    https://www.gocomics.com/stevebenson

Closing the border, of course, will quickly do a lot of damage to the U.S. economy, since a LOT of our produce and millions of dollars in cars and auto parts cross the border every day. According to Reuters, our supplies of avocados would run out in 3 weeks if Trump closed the border. According to the Department of Agriculture, nearly half of all imported U.S. vegetables come from Mexico, as is 40% of our imported fruit. On top of that, we EXPORT a lot of corn, soybeans, and meat to Mexico, so U.S. farmers would take a hit if Trump carried out his threat.

Dock, he already negotiated such way in advance; since he's in the "building business" he's got the "connections" all over the place. He will have the "kickbacks" prepared such way that they will be very hard to trace, since the "Stormy" debacle. He will cover his tracks the "mob way". The contract work will be "overpriced" as just about any government contract as I found out at Lockheed in order to "payoff" the lobbyists. In this case the lobbyist is Trump.

Trump is totally obsessed with the $50000000000 scam wall and his part of it and to put a cherry on it the 50 billion dollar payday will be called Trump's Wall.

Trump's decision to cut off aid to "3 Mexican countries" is an utterly foolish idea. Michael Gerson of the Washington Post published a column this morning that goes into more detail:

Trump threatens to put "new" tariffs on cars coming from Mexico if he does not get what he wants. He's getting crazier by the day. Who are idiots who gave all these powers to Presidents? If they are still alive they should be jailed. If it were our fore-fathers then wake up America and curtail the powers of an President, especially if you have an "mental" patient as President!

This letter to the editor was in the Tucson Daily Star this morning:

Dear Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador, the floggings will continue until the morale improves, love D. Trump.
