When I'm in the mood for some lighter reading, I'll open up today's version of The Onion, America's finest news source.

The 2019 defense budget for 2019 is $716 billion, an increase from the year before (again). That total is larger than the GDP of Saudi Arabia, which has the 19th largest economy in the entire world.

Raytheon (based in Tucson) is the 4th largest arms company in the entire world. Year end 2017 sales were $25 billion. I have no idea how much money they spend on lobbying, but I'm pretty sure that it is a lot. $25 billion is larger than the GDP of virtually any one of the 86 smallest countries in the world.
