What is your reaction to the midterms after the results are in.

If its landslide everywhere for Republicans, reinforcing Trump's negative self perception of our country, then maybe Dutch is correct and the US has past its apex, and is now in free fall into irrelevance on the world stage.

But if the results reject Trump and Republicans (message of hate), then we would be rejecting the Orwellian perspective that Trump represents. Being the beacon of light that attracts immigrates from across the world because we are a forward thinking country that is not Donald Trump.

Right now Nelson and Scott are tied in FL. That is bad because I was hoping for an outright rejection of the lying cheating Republican pattern. They said the panhandle isn't in yet and they expect the panhandle to be a Democratic plus. Here's hoping.

Trump's tax cut bought a lot of votes. Votes that should have been beyond compromise.

Its looking like nationwide its a Mexican stand off. A good night for democrats, but not great one. Republicans lost the most, but held enough that we can expect trumps farts tomorrow to stink pretty badly. He'll take credit for the victories and blame others for the loses.

2 important races in Florida yesterday. We were up by 7 points in both polls. Lost both in close races. Florida is way too Red. About 4 Blue counties in a large state. Democrats continue to focus on big cities only. We're not going to speak to anyone who A. Goes to chuch or B. Has ever been to a church until what ? 2150..... Conversations and open minds are missing. We must find some common ground and discuss common interests with those who aren't our typical followers.

    Some progress was made.

Mr. Mueller, please expedite your / our crucial investigation. Lying, cheating, stealing and hateful division are popular trends.

Your suggested strategy is interesting because its completely different than what Trump has discovered keeps those voters. Trump uses fear and lying to keep them voting for republican candidates (Division is an effective Republican strategy). The more fearful republicans voters are, the more likely they are to vote republican. But, to his credit, his core demographic is highly susceptible to fear mongering and far less interested in critical thinking: he is using tactics\method\language that is most effective on Republican voters.

The Trump\Republican approach does not work for Democratic candidates because it would be rejected by Democrats during the Democratic primary process beyond the local level, at least when used as the primary strategy of hate\fear\division\etc. Democrats are far more centrist and inclusive, thus they are not promoting that the boogie man is living next door if they are not Anglo-Americans, nor suggesting the boogie man is always minority of a different race. That kind of BS is highly effective for Republicans, but is flatly rejected by Democrats.

I am more directly saying, talking to Trump Republicans using Democratic language and ideas is like talking to them using a forgiven language they do not understand. Yet, to talk to them using the language of trump which they completely understand, is to become like trump; Lie to them and generate fear as possible; make them feel like all is lost....Its a catch-22 problem for Democrats.

Here is my 5 cents; luckily I watched an nature film on Discovery; it was so more interesting than all the election B.S.

Like I've said many times this country is doomed. Why? because of the lack of education, especially in States in the center who go bravely to church and believe everything they get presented.

Since the Senate has the most assholes and is not won by the Dem's, the shit will continue as before or even worse. As long as McConnell and his cronies of the most stupid States in the country run this show, then my predictions may materialize.

My only hope is Mueller, however I've got also my doubts about that, because our "mafia" leader will find a way to throw his eventual report in the garbage. Also this election shows that the "blacks" have no chance in hell to rise to certain positions.

Thus the end result of this election will only make things worse ; not better. Trump will only "lie" more and ruin this country and the world around him.

    Amen

Well Dutch, you are ultimately correct. The US government as exists and operates today, will be gone someday, either replaced with a better government or taken over by some other country as we become weak and irrelevant.

It is clear you believe the fall is happening now and at a very rapid pace, and within the next decade, all will be gone. Your perception is that the US is like the Titanic which has hit an iceberg named Trump, and the results is the the ship is quickly sinking, but nobody wants to accept it, and by the time we realize it, the ship will be more than half underwater, at a point that is far too late. That appears to be your perception.

While I agree with you that the US government will gone some someday, I just don't think its happening now nor as fast as your suggesting. I believe that Trump is a cancer that will ultimately be removed from the system, and the damage he leaves behind will take a long time to heal. More like a sudden car accident, where the passengers take 5-10 years to regain their full health.

It remains an unanswerable question as to how long the US government will survive, but I am guessing at least couple hundred years longer. And to survive it will have to transform from what it is now, into something far greater. I am just not seeing that our current government as being so fragile and weak that one fucking self-center pathological liar can undo 200 years of hard progress in just a couple of years. If he can do that, the US has been nothing more than a paper tiger waiting for some dumb asshole to light the match and then poor gas on it, watching as people cheer as they burn to death. Naw, its just not that bad.

I did not mean to say that the US government will be gone; however if the present trend continues than indeed the Titanic will hit the iceberg. History has shown that an culture of lies and deceit never lasts. Thus I'm hopeful "brains" will prevail.

As I've said many times, it is the "system" here which is asking for corruption. As long as billions of "money" are injected into elections, then elections are corrupted by an huge percentage. Thus if no one changes such, then you've invited the "mob" to run this country together with the local "oligards" who are called here "billionaires". In reality the same as in Russia.

No message for what the Democratic Party can do for people. No mention about college kids graduating into at least $100,000 of servitude. Almost like a one party system.

There were a number of pleasant surprises yesterday:

    1) the "adults in the room" regained control of the House

    2) Scott Walker got defeated in Wisconsin

    3) Democrats flipped at least 6 governorships (including deep red Kansas) besides Walker's

    4) Beto O'Rourke, in spite of his loss, came close to beating Ted Cruz, raised a LOT more money, AND helped a number of "down ticket" races

The most interesting case of all, though, is the governor's race in Georgia. In spite of Brian Kemp's blatant voter suppression, his margin of victory is less than the number of uncounted ballots, most of which are from "blue" precincts. In all likelihood, the race for governor could be decided by a "runoff" on December 4.

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2018/live-updates/midterms/midterm-election-updates/why-georgia-could-go-to-a-runoff-even-if-brian-kemp-manages-a-narrow-lead/?utm_term=.7ea1f04e39c4

At this point, Kemp is only 15,000 votes above the threshold to avoid a runoff, and there at least 77,000 outstanding ballots

Guy, "adults in the room" does not help if still in the "other room" idiots preside, like Mc.Connell, Orin Hatch, Grassly, and others who helped Kavanaugh in his position. Sorry to say the Trump disaster will continue and he is already focused on 2020. The bullying will continue and already warned the Dems not to stand in his way.

Forget this whole midterm; effect "zero" ; Trump will only become worse than before, especially if Mueller, if ever?) comes with his report.

Dutch, What is needed now is a plan. A single issue focused pertinent plan. Prosperity. I am reasonably sure that Trump's tax cut bought a lot of votes. The Republicans do well with a single issue, the prosperity of their constituents. The DNC needs to focus on the financial well being and security of the lower classes.
