Good Blog commentary... A lot to digest mentally. My personal observation based on knowing some evangelicals. As a group they collectively always have strong powerful men that lay down the law, state things in black & White, make evangelicals feel they are an exclusive righteous group. The leaders are perceived to be selected by god to lead them to heaven because each new generation believes. without a doubt, we are in the "End Times" as written in the bible. To simplify it even further, Trump's message and methods are about being exclusive, like being a member of high priced country club where admittance is reserved for only a few that qualify, and they must comply to all the rules and never disagree with the leaders... As opposed to the ideology on the left which makes a specific effort to be inclusive (minorities, LGBT, etc). Right = Concentration of power at the top (over 90%). Those that follow this model give up their individuality. Left = Distribution of power among many smaller groups. Power is decentralize and is more accepting of alternate ideas.

Chet: Your mention of "crusades" reminded me of a book I read a long time ago, titled "The Crusades through Arab Eyes". The link below provides more information: http://tohell-andback.blogspot.com/2009/06/book-of-signs.html Somewhat related to your comments are (1) the Spanish Inquisition and (2) the Alhambra Decree https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spanish_Inquisition https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alhambra_Decree During colonial times, people could be put to death for criticizing their pastor, and early Quakers to the colonies were killed because it was against the law in early Massachusetts to be a Quaker. Religion truly does have a very ugly side. Just ask an altar boy.

And not to forget exceptionalism, the vane claim to act out blessed by god.

Dutch Wrote:Dave Volek Wrote:lonely bird Wrote: Trump was “chosen” by racist, misogynist, whites afraid of changing demographics by a system designed to placate slaveowners. Could be. If so, it is time to change the system. This time more progressive minded people should be writing the constitution. I like to place a "bet"; I guarantee that no one here has the guts to "rewrite this document"; it is here as holy as the "bible". So forget that. Also as long as an two party system exits and "money" runs the elections, the "mess" and "corruption" stays. Thus no wonder the churches say: Just pray and pay. (that helps) Chet, there may be a lot of truth in what you have just said--which is unfortunate. It's amazing how we will cling to document written 250 years ago by a bunch of racists, misogynists, and elitists. And it's amazing that since that time, we have written, discarded, and rewritten so many "accepted" models of understanding our world in the pure sciences and social sciences, and yet we are not allowed to imagine another version of democracy that will surpass western democracy. In Canada, we have national and provincial elections where a governing party will receive 75% of the seats with 40% of the vote. Many of us get angry with this imbalance, yet just try to suggest to change the Westminster electoral system with a European PR system. Well, let's just say that if Canadians are not willing to consider this step, the TDG is, for sure, too far out of their reach. The "pay and pray" may indeed be the psychology keeping people away from doing a little work to rewrite the constitution. I'm not a believer in any deep state which keeps some nebulous group of people in power regardless of who wins the election. But if there is such an entity, it has done an excellent job in brainwashing the people not to consider other systems of governance.
