Pick a candidate. The only candidate speaking out for the working poor is Sanders. So why is there no support for Bernie? No other candidate is campaigning a positive program to improve the status of the working class.

So how do you justify saying full blown socialism. The mainline progressive attitude is more inline with the 50s Democratic Party. This country can't come up with gun laws and that is the same mindset that opposes socialism. What in particular are you opposed to in any socialist practises in this world that overwhelmingly operates on capitalism. Even China. What do you see that alarms you. Socialism is not capitalism. I don't see any practices in the most socialist countries of Norway, Denmark or Sweden that are overbearing or offensive. Even the high tax rates are totally agreeable because they fund expenses that would normally be out of pocket.

Well, you're intelligent enough to figure that one out. "Red states" presently hold a majority I believe, how many red state voters do you think want socialism? Besides, today's politics is very polarized, in one instant, people vote R, in another instant they vote D, most unpredictable to say the least. That Florida win? I call it a fluke.

All of this is quite simple; "money" and "me, me, me" are the boss here; the word "socialist" is a dirty word here; so forget "healthcare" for all, forget "free education", forget an "clean environment", forget "social services" , forget decent "drug prices", forget a "reduction in debt" of this country, forget a decent wage for the lower classes, forget paid leave for sickness or maternity, forget an "honest" not lying government, forget elections without corruption and money, You want more of this, then continue what this country is doing; "downhill" is the real message; love the swamp!

Dutch, The right wing propaganda and "Life Styles of The Rich and Famous" have been successful in making most lower class citizens think they are all millionaires with a temporary cash flow problem. They have people thinking that socialism is the same as communism. In fact socialism is the exact opposite and enemy of communism. The closest thing to communism in this world is large national and international corporations. The biggest scam pulled on the citizens was Berlin. Throughout my life since 1962 I have casually polled people on the location of Berlin. The overwhelming majority said Berlin was on the border between East and West Germany. I think this perception was influenced by the government. If the majority of people knew that Berlin was deep inside East Germany preparing to go to war over it may not have had so much support.

What is different in the USA today between our capitalism and the following description of socialism.

"Disadvantages of socialism include slow economic growth, less entrepreneurial opportunity and competition, and a potential lack of motivation by individuals due to lesser rewards."

    courses.lumenlearning.com/international...

"lack of motivation by individuals due to lesser rewards."

Consider virtually stagnant working class wages for the last 40 years.

Vote for me, I'll make the federal minimum wage $11.00 an hour to start with, and give free healthcare to those who can't afford to buy it.

Dangling the federal minimum wage is a cheap trick trying to cover up the lack of reforming wall street. Criminalize all the laws that let illegal gambling take over Wall Street and there will be no need for a mandated minimum wage. Money made available for legitimate investing will create prosperity. Trump type lies and swindling have been going on since Donald was a kid. He has no time for finessing cheating. He just outright wants to take the money. There are only 1500 billionaires out of 7,500 000,000 people . That is one billionaire for every 5 million people. They can't help but feel specially selected by their god. Trump is proclaiming his heritage.

Short Answer: It is just one of many left-of-center issues and its not perceived to be as bad you suggest, at least when compared to poverty around the world. Not suggesting your perception is wrong.

Longer Answer: My perspective is that we are decades, if not centenaries, away from where humanity focuses on that specific issue as a human right. You are like a person who that was born in the early 1800s and by 1850s firmly states "All races are equal, and anything less than 100% equality under the law is criminal"; at the point in time it would have been too radical for the mainstreanm to accept, but 100+ years later, its fully accepted and put into law.

For the working class, you are demanding\expecting something that is far ahead of what the human race is ready for and willing to do at this point of human evolution. If we continue with the slavery analogy, the fight for equality still continues over 200 years later, and there are still closed minded people that would love to role back laws to ensure whites always have veto power over minorities. Same goes for the working class, there are those who profit (money and\or power) from keeping people poor, and they want it to stay that way, and for many more decades, the powerful elites will fight a loosing battle to keep poor people poor. Sad for those alive today, we will only seen some incremental progress with some setbacks. But you never know, there could someone rising up right now who will become a great leader for the working class and humanitartian rights, and that person will be the beacon of amazing change, and there will be great change in a short period of time. It has happened so many times in the past, and as it will in endlessly into the future. Orwell's 1984 will never become a reality.

IMO, President Obama left a leadership void in the democratic party at a time there wasn't any leadership in the republican party, that left the door open for evil to take advantage of lack of strong humanitarian leadership and take temporary control of the nation.... his reign won't last, Trump will be gone just as quickly has he came, and he will leave a massive vacuum in the Republican party, one so large the Republican party may not survive. Trump is like a cancer that requires the amputation of both arms. Imagine how a person could function without any arms? That is what the republican party will be like once trump goes back to playing golf and building trump towers in Russian and NK.

The answer could be now instead of then if the Democratic Party would unite behind fair and equal opportunity. Trump is not radical at all compared to how laws have already been bought to remove opportunity from the working class. DOW at 25000 is assuring a crash is in the near future. And absolutely nothing is being done about it. Why?? Because too many people are making money with other people's money. Trump is president because the working class was ignored. He won with a promise to the working class. Lots of good paying jobs and make America great again. In the face of those facts the DNC is still denying the working class. The DNC is counting on blue wave by default. There is no denying stagnated wages but still silence from DNC. Trumps full employment with no increase in wages, high DOW with low or no earnings and coupled with longest running bull market with low GDP all add up to a market bubble. The last best years for the working class was the 60s.

Looking at all the replies; I get the idea that people here only want "money' but not an easy relaxed life with "care". In an "socialistic" system", due to that an government itself can negotiate a better deal on healthcare as well other services, if everyone is subscribed. The worst thing you can do is having "lobbyists" run the show. This is the main reason why you never get lower cost health services. Look at the difference between the US and Spain; the drug prices are one tenth of the cost here. All of this comes out of your wages; thus here you loose a lot of your hard earned money because of the system here, as well you have to select with whom you want to deal. In an "collective" system run by an "non-corrupt" government it works the best. The same applies for all other social services, even the army and its purchases. It is the huge profit margins due to "lobbyists" which 'kills" the society here.

"Look at the difference between the US and Spain;"

The US is protective of the top 1% and the top 1% gets treated with respect like they are royalty. Modern Monetary Theory the new wave of some Democrats in my observation is strangely silent on affording necessities of life jobs and prosperity. MMT is big on spending but silent on earning the money to spend. They create money with keystrokes but keystroke money is not spendable outside the USA.

Chet, that is not what I'm saying. I said get the "corruption" out of life here. Corrupt healthcare, corrupt elections due to corrupt money in it, corrupt "lobbyists", corrupt bankers, corrupt "leaders", corrupt Republicans, lack of decent laws to stop "corruption". Why give the "1" percent tax breaks? I guess they are the one's who love "corruption" so you should "reward" them. Right?

Dutch, I agreed with what you said by pointing out that everything possible is being done to keep the top 1% happy. That is why there is all the greed and corruption here. The worst part is the acceptance of all the corruption because ""that's the way it is"".
