If people wish to dissolve the 2-3 party system as we know it, you end up with a dictatorship. Ask Dutch about WWII and how Hitler reigned and snuffed out dissenters.
Arresting and incarcerating individuals and groups is as absurd as it sounds. Granted, years ago we had witch hunts, some of which accused US citizens of being communists, and during our wars, many ethnic groups were rounded up and sent to internment/prison camps only because of their race, or the country they came from. Amerikan history is repeating itself, on 9/11. the Bush administration rounded up people of middle-eastern descent and held them without due process of law, much like Italian immigrants, Japanese and others were rounded up during WWII. Most recently, the present administration using ICE and CBP have gone door to door rounding up Mexican and Latino immigrants citing security reasons or concerns. We have a modern day dictatorship right now, a president in charge and his administration circumventing all laws of our land. He has stepped on people's civil rights and incarcerated hundreds if not thousands of people with no due process of law, and our government officials, e.g., congresspersons, legislators, representatives have remained numb/dumb and done nothing about it.
Yeap, this country is definitely fucked up, and it's getting worse by the day.
You claimed you didn't know that FDR used executive orders to implement programs to benefit US citizens, I encourage you to watch documentaries by film maker Ken Burns, the Roosevelts, I also encourage you to watch PBS Frontline documentaries whenever you have the time to do so. I good doc is Trump Takeover of the GOP.
Trump uses EO's to send Amerika in reverse, not ahead.
The multi-party system is part of what makes western democracy work. It keeps all the parties, including the governing party, within certain boundaries. McCarthyism could have been taken down a longer path, but opposition eventually exposed it for what it was. When it became felt that continuing to support McCarthyism would lead to electoral losses, the politicians stopped this witchhunt. But without the opposition, it would have grown into a much more sinister force.
In a like manner, I see all the protests as a gathering of political forces for the November elections. 50% of Americans normally do not vote. If 10% of those are finding the incentive to vote against Mr. Trump, that will topple many R legislators--even in R districts and states.
The rise of Hitler in German politics should be noted. He seemed to have a deliberate plan to slowly inculcate the German people into behaving a certain way. If a German person did not love him, he/she should fear him. I'm not seeing the fear aspect yet from the new R party, but it should be watched closely. The Nazis didn't have to put all their opponents in jail; many more were fearful and kept silent. I'm not seeing any version of the Nazi brownshirts, but I'm sure there are enough Americans willing to fill these roles if such a group were organized. Scary!
As a Canadian, I don't get the full USA news. Despite being reasonably knowledgeable of American governance, the executive order came as a bit of surprise to me: Mr. Trump somehow brought it to my headlines. I was under the impression that the president had to work within the confines Congress and previous Congresses had set for the position. But that is not the case. Even as early as three years ago, I watched a documentary on FDR. I'm pretty sure the documentary emphasized his deal-making skills to put the New Deal together. I just can't recall it saying he used his EO privileges, which is what FDR Wikipedia article stated. It seems that Americans like to keep the EO aspect of their governance less known.
Political parties have all sorts of internal purges after their internal elections. This is a natural force, not something Mr. Trum invented. If high and low ranking members do not get behind their leader (or at least stay out of the way), they stand a good chance of being tactfully purged. And if the leader fails to deliver the votes, that leader is also eventually purged. Mr Trump can deliver 30% of the vote to the R way; the R party will continue to reshape itself in his way-----until he fails to do that.
