CBO, June 2018: The 2018 Long-Term Budget Outlook

The Congressional Budget Office has just released it's projections of long term debt. Look at the pictures in the above link to get a visual of how the debt is projected to skyrocket. This is typical of Republican administrations. They bitch about the debt when Democrats are in office and then refuse to mention it when they are in office. The candidate Trump repeatedly complained about the debt even promising to eliminate it entirely. Now he is silent...or will find someway to blame Obama.

I'm not particularly concerned about the debt per se, but it is a political tool that the Republicans seem to be able to use quite effectively when Dems are in control.

It's ironic that conservatives are only concerned about debt and deficits when Democrats hold the majority in the congress of the U.S. and have a supposed republican president in office, they're hardly conservatives when they hold those elected offices though. Take for instance Bush 43, he ran up the debt and deficits by waging two wars, and cutting taxes.

No republicans seemed to object to his policies, and democrats' hands were tied, just as they are now. These policies have long term ramifications.

Now that we have what some might call a neo conservative as a president, he swore after the last budget passage that he would not sign another $1T spending package. Would that be another lie he is telling? He does want to shut down the government. He has threatened to do so many times. In this ABC video, he threatened to shut government down over immigration:

    Definition of neoconservative

1 : a former liberal espousing political conservatism

2 : a conservative who advocates the assertive promotion of democracy and U.S. national interest in international affairs including through military means

Trump does have neocons in his cabinet, one is Bolton. I also think Trump has heavy reliance on his former staff member Bannon, who is probably helping Trump steer his policies. Which is bad for America.

The thing what is not mentioned is who "covers" the Debt; China is one of the biggest "loan" holders; don't forget the interest of the debt has to be paid and those amounts are enormous. In the meantime they battle the "trade" with China as a "bully". All kind of strange; like I would fight daily with my Visa debt holder.

When a company or family or individual has money problems the solution is seen to be increasing income. Not austerity . Nobody talks about increasing income for the government . Almost the entire country is satisfied with cutting spending and taxes. The conservative ideal is to cut taxes and spending and give the results back to the people. That is using up the principle instead of investing it in jobs. Tax and spend is the way to solutions and prosperity .

    Absolutely correct Dutch.

As of September 2014 the largest single holder of U.S. government debt was China, with 21% of all foreign-held U.S. Treasury securities (10% of total U.S. public debt).[46] China's holdings of government debt, as a percentage of all foreign-held government debt are up significantly since 2000 (when China held just 6 percent of all foreign-held U.S. Treasury securities).

We are witnessing an ongoing crime against America and the free world . Putin is giving the orders and fascists are in control of our government.

Do they want to destroy our economy ?

Tarrifs will hurt our economy .

The debt will harm our economy

Disregarding trade agreements is illegal and will negativley effect our economy

Attacking immigration will harm our economy.

Unions have now been weakened by the SC.

    America is under attack.

    Propaganda works.

I could add another long list of stupidity; Trump has achieved even more than Hitler in the "propaganda field" ; he even screams louder and does not need an "bullhorn" but uses a "bullyhorn" instead.

I'm not so afraid of the "free" world (not all is free) China will prevail as well Europe without any "help" from this "island"

It is time for another civil war here; hopefully then they will adapt the Constitution related to voting laws without corruption and "money" and "vet" an President thoroughly all the way and limits his powers.

The other choice is: let Trump continue; then for sure we will become as Russia or Venezuela; or an combination of the two.

Waving flags will not help, neither an national anthem.

"adapt the Constitution related to voting laws"

Dutch, you don't have to change the voting laws. Just give people something to vote for.

No Dutch, Just simply run a campaign that addresses the issues of the working person. Until you get a candidate that recognizes that the system is being run to benefit a few instead of the country There will be no solution. Leading up to 29 and 08 was blatantly policies to benefit the very rich. The people that could do something remained silent so that they didn't jeopardize their own chances for riches. It is no super secret that there is a correction every so many years . Nothing is said or done because people want their chance to hit it big. Address the issues of keeping the working class working and all problems will be solved . Now the economy is run as a series of windfall crashes . Big money is made for the top .01 every time There is a correction. Run the economy as an institutional rather than eventful system and all things will fall in place. Make the value of the stock market be earnings instead of perception. Work instead of gamble .

Thus, you think by keeping the present system in place, including the "electoral college", lots of money and billionaires, "gerrymandering", Super PAC's, Super delegates, and dumb asses who run. Is that which will help to achieve what you want? I doubt it. It is totally corrupt to the bone. Running an campaign that addresses the issues of the working person does not get you the votes, let alone gets you the campaign "money". It always will be catering to the "rich" and "powerful" in an "capitalistic society"

Dutch, You need candidates with an honest human rights agenda. Doesn't make any difference what you do if there is not an honest compassionate candidate . First person to speak out and stand up against the powerful is Bernie Sanders. So what happens is he is attacked first and foremost by Democrats . Doesn't make any difference what you change if the status quo Democrats support the rich and famous.
