I'm a little surprised we haven't had any discussion about James Comey's interview with George Stephanopoulos last night. I wasn't able to watch it until this morning, but I came away not being able to shake the fact that he called Donald unfit to be President.

It was really interesting to watch and I'm in the process of reading the entire interview Stephanopoulos as I write this, but it was a five hour long interview and will take some time to read through. One thing I'll say is that I have more respect for Comey now than I did a year and a half ago. I also understand why Donald is so scared of what Comey has to say and so intent on discrediting it regardless of what the truth is.

I know I'm in the minority of Democrats when I say this, but in hindsight I don't blame James Comey for Hillary losing the election. She still won the popular vote by millions of votes, so it's not like Comey's actions somehow made it so Donald won the popular vote. As I have said many times by now - our system is why Donald is President.

Comey is visiting Portland this Saturday and my wife and I are going to see him speak. I'm really interested in what he has to say and hope he'll do a Q&A. I also have to give him some credit for being able to go into the heart of "liberal country" to face what will inevitably be a hostile crowd because most liberals still hate his guts. It should be an interesting afternoon.

I saw that. I'm in agreement with his assessment, look at what Trump is or was into. He admitted grabbing women, and I don't believe that's locker room talk either. Donald Trump is a filthy nasty man IMO.

I also believe it was a combination of things for democrats losing in 2016, not just Comey with Clinton's emails, but I don't think his going public and going to congress helped her either. I noticed right after that story broke, the Trump campaign and his followers chanted lock her up. Maybe that'll be a democrat chant for Trump in 2020, if he makes it that far.

Maybe "Lock Him Up!!" should be the official Democratic slogan of the 2020 campaign. I say that with tongue in cheek, but Democrats have to start fighting fire with fire.

This President is a threat to our country and Comey's interview last night made that abundantly clear.

Comey also made an interesting point. He thought it would be better for the country not to impeach trump, but for trump to face re-election, and let voters decide. The implication was that trump would be overwhelmingly be rejected for the many reasons he laid out.

He may have a valid point, don't let trump become a martre for right wing extremists, allowing them to maintain a hold on republican party. I think he need to go far sooner because of the damage he will be able to do 4 years. No need to go into a long list of damage he is likely to do in 4 years.

Dang, I started a thread a while back, democrats, it's time to get nasty, now that's what I'm talking about. You know, I think Trump is way too afraid to show his face at a joint session of congress, I think maybe some democrats, as well as a few republicans are willing to call him out like Joe Wilson tried to do with President Obama.

    democratichub.com/posts/14836/democrats...

I will agree that what America shows the world as our best choice for a president is the poorest excuse for one.

    That is a funny slogan.

We need to keep in mind it's very difficult to beat trump at his own game, something he has been refining for 50 years and been very successful (limited in scope); part of that success is baiting others to engage with him on his terms. He would love the 2020 election to be referendum about "HIM"as personality...

I remain confident he won't be president during the 2020 campaign. My prediction he has less than 310 days. If goes beyond that, it will be part of the impeachment process. If he were to survive impeachment, he would be untouchable for as long as he remains in office. He would be embolden to do far reaching, and unheard of, very destructive actions.

"Democrats have to start fighting fire with fire."

Democrats need to promise to straighten out the mess, restore honor and dignity to the White House and promise lots of good paying jobs.

How does that translate to in terms of action? What is the fire and what counter-fire needed to over come it?

Fighting fire with fire... ? I don't think so. Fighting implies rudeness and the Democratic party will not be rude to anyone except ourselves / other party members who are less than perfect.

Fighting suggests a desire to win. Not gonna change course now.

Hell yes a fighting spirit is long overdue and a first step in opposition.

The paradox of Trump is that he’s going to drive net seats to Democrats that Hillary Clinton couldn’t hope to retain as President. So the burn it all down crowd (Bernie or Bust’ers/Jill Stein types) may have had it right, but the price is a bunch of lifetime seats on the judiciary (and a whole of executive branch graft, loss of prestige, national embarrassment), and we won’t know the full scope of the damage until years out.

Jared; I'm of the opinion that an investigation should be made into the members of the "electoral college", I would not doubt that they received "money" or were "partisan" to sway things in the direction of Trump. In this country I would not trust anyone. But of course this whole "electoral college" system should be abolished; hopefully before 2020. Furthermore the candidates should be properly "vetted" far before they are elected. The present "vetting" as done now by dumb ass senators is totally inadequate and laughable.

Agreed. Much like the damage caused by Reagan and Reaganism. There are polls/surveys/rankings by academics that put Reagan as #9-#11 as president. A guy that loves Reagan over at radiofreeliberal.com always brings that up whenever Reagan is mentioned. We are dealing with and will continue to deal with the damage he caused for many years to come.

Probably wont work against Trump as I said in the campaign. Trump has given a lot of issues to focus a campaign on. Democrats need to look at those issues and focus on rectifying them and especially capitalize on Trump's biggest failed promise. Lots of good paying jobs. That is especially easy by reregulating Wall Street.
