    If you believe in God.

Kevin D. Williamson, briefly at the Atlantic Magazine, prompted my musings on the topic. I am a woman. As a sexually active woman I have had several abortions. OK, not surgical abortions, but spontaneous abortions, miscarriages, abortion by God -- if there is a God.

Kevin D. Williamson believes that those who have abortions and those who provide abortions should be hanged:

In 2014, Williamson tweeted that “the law should treat abortion like any other homicide.” Although Williamson has since deleted his Twitter account, the exchange was immortalized by Rewire.News Editor-in-Chief Jodi Jacobson, who explained that Williamson not only advocated for abortion to “be treated as premeditated homicide,” but also that “women who have had abortions should face capital punishment, namely hanging.”

Should I, a woman who has experienced spontaneous abortion, also be hanged?

I think not and I am offended by Williamson's tone and language.

Furthermore, what offends me most is Williamson's gross stupidity about basic human biology, most pregnancies do not make it to term, hand of God, if you will. I refer the reader to the stats at:

    rationalwiki.org/wiki/Spontaneous_abort...

Williamson's stupidity about basic science is astounding and makes him unworthy.

Karen; "if there is a God" is never been proven. The only "evidence" that it is is an (paper and ink) written document by humans who only learned to write about 6000 years ago, while the earth is millions of years old. Thus total B.S. created by "humans". Also even this book does not forbids abortions, let alone miscarriages. Let alone if you were raped or the kid is totally deformed and has no chance in hell to enjoy life, but only suffers pain for a couple of month or a bit longer. Churches who preach this crap are the guilty one's who should be prosecuted. The same problems apply to our Constitution and "bibles" which were antique old books to intimidate the people in order to get power over the people. Both documents should be only be viewed as an "artifact" but nothing else. As for the Constitution; an rewrite to fit modern times is long overdue . As for the "bible" I give it no value at all in modern times; the talking snake told me so.

Unfortunately, I live in Alabama and the only thing they believe in is "faith". I have never been able to determine what "faith" means to the typical Alabaman or what the "faith" is in, well, I concede it does concern "faith" in some sort of god but that god thinks you should kick the sick into the gutter, starve the hungry, let the thirsty die in the desert, etc.

Karen, an "human life" is only a "second" in time on how the universe deals with it; I suggest that you look at an clear night sky and count the "stars" above. It will show you how insignificant "people" are in the universe. I doubt if they have "bibles" on Mars or any other planet. Thus anyone who wants to dictate you, or rule you is insignificant as well. Live your own short life on this globe to the best of your knowledge and don't let others dictate you on how you should live your life. Your body and mind are your own property; they don't belong to the State or the church.

    Karen:

    I sympathize with you.

Officially, Alabama is THE most religious state in the country. Religion is "important" or "very important" to 90% of the population, and 88% of the total is considered religious.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_U.S._states_and_territories_by_religiosity

Not surprisingly, the top 10 most religious states are all red states. If you look at the Cook Partisan Voting Index, they range from R+8 (Texas) to R+20 (Oklahoma). I live in Arizona 3, which is D+13, but a liberal friend of mine lives in the 13th district of Texas, which is R+33, the MOST Republican district in the country. Many of his neighbors still believe that Obama was born in Kenya.

Guy, great info. Yes it shows the "power" of the churches in"politics". Therefore I give this country not much hope related to "governing" the right way without the influence (indoctrination) of the churches ( Trump changed those rules on that as well)

If you fed up with it, and sick and tired of it, you could move. That's what I would do.

We have religious zealots knocking on our doors almost every weekend, I just tell them to go away and don't come back or I'll call the police on them, that seems to work well.

Don't have the resources to move. I am a woman and have experienced economic inequality all my life and at my age, have very limited resources to do what I would wish to do. I am definitely not alone, especially in America. There are millions of women like me in the same circumstances. I did not realize that I would have to bite and claw my way to a reasonable survival, I was much too nice. All that I can do now, with the rest of my life, is to urge women to be aggressive and nasty in order to overcome the overpowering sexism -- and racism -- of this nation.

Karen, all I can say; believe in yourself and find a solution to be happy with yourself; be proud and make a plan or find something to do what you like; get the right friends who can help to steer you in the right direction. Stay positive about yourself.

Yes this country has a lot to learn; I can't help that either. Thus make the best of your circumstances and keep fighting.

I was an orphan so I know all about it.

Karen, No consolation but you are living the result of a country abandoning some of its citizens, the poor and working poor. Can't lavish enough money on success while at the same time degrading the poor for being poor. Everybody is not a self starting entrepreneur. Opportunity means providing jobs for workers . Opportunity is not allowing the stock market to siphon and hoard money. Money was made to be spent and not hoarded. The first movement in fifty years to help the lower classes was battled by both republicans and democrats, Bernie Sanders.
