Run away victory in 2020? Trumps numbers are up 7 points amid Stormy Storm. Dangerous to have a negative campaign against Trump. My opinion based upon his particular charisma is a campaign calling out his errors and lies and mistakes will solidify his base and get new supporters. His base and potential new supporters care more about defending their opinions and feelings than caring if their opinions and feelings are positive. A well organised anti Trump campaign can just as easily elect him as well as defeat him. A Trump supporter responds like this: "I don't care what happens to me just as long as that SOB doesn't get anything free". Logic doesn't apply in battling Trump .

Trump supporters are controlled by something very similar to the maternal instinct toward a mother .

"They" are probably only about 35% of this country. Problem is they vote about 95% of the time. The party must do much. I am skeptical at best. An easier path could not be asked for. What will we do with the opportunity ? Most likely - not enough. Head of the DNC is nearly invisible.

I think the DNC is underplaying the outcome. Every indication is Trump won't last or he will be run out. Almost the same circumstances as the beginning of his presidential campaign.

Yes T.J. I get the same feeling; the "news" is only all about Trump; not about what the Dem's will do or having a strong message. I guess they think the GOP will self destruct and then they can take over without any effort, since there is no other party in this country. However never underestimate your opponents if they are fanatic; especially the evangelicals.

Dutch, I think the DNC is silent because they want Hillary to run again. Silence prevents possible candidates from getting exposure for expressing views . Trump once again is a formidable candidate. And once again direct attacks can help as much as hurt Trump.

    You heard it here first:

If Trump escapes Russia-gate (his base doesn't care either way) he not only will run (his re-election campaign has already started) he will win. If he starts a war against Iran, that will stir up not just his base but many conservatives/Republicans as well, he will not only win the electoral college, he will win the popular vote. That the country will be in a bigger mess will not matter to his base and to the majority of conservatives/Republicans.

Wow! But yeah everything is possible in this country. Especially if they don't change the corrupting voting laws as well no "vetting". Neither Bolton was "vetted" (not needed of course)

I don't think he will get to 2020. He will be out of the WH one way or another.

Murican's love their wars...until they don't. Unfortunately they tend to realize they don't love war until after they reelect the President that got them into it.

All Donald has to do is look back at Johnson and Bush II if he wants to get reelected. It worked out well for them in the short term, but was catastrophic for them in the long term. The only (and very scary) difference is that Donald doesn't give a shit about the long term.

I'm also far less worried about Iran than I am North Korea. Either would be catastrophic wars that would result in the deaths of millions of human beings, but North Korea is a nuclear state with a standing army of 1.9 million people that has another 7.7 million reservists.

A war with North Korea will truly test Murican's love for war, especially once their ICBM's start raining down on major US cities.

I would love nothing more than to see Donald out of office, but we should also remind ourselves that his replacement would be a holy warrior who would make all other holy warriors look like naive school children. Donald's replacement would also actually understand the levers of government and stand a damn good chance of enacting his holy warrior agenda into law.

Thanks, Bernie or busters. I hope your protest vote was worth it.

Yes, it is understood there is no realistic upside.

Based on how you see things going with trump, if you could chose, who would you prefer to be president for the remainder of this Presidential term, trump or Pense? No need to speculate on 2020 and beyond.

Probably not, since there is little hope the Democrats will smell the coffee and track left to win back the progressives.

But let us remember that the Democrats planned to sacrifice the blue collar and progressive vote. As tactical mastermind Chuck Schumer put it, "The number one factor in whether we retake the Senate is whether Hillary Clinton does well, and I think she’s going to do really well... For every blue-collar Democrat we lose in western Pennsylvania, we will pick up two moderate Republicans in the suburbs in Philadelphia, and you can repeat that in Ohio and Illinois and Wisconsin.”

Well they did the first part real well.

They also got their friends in the media to focus their attention on "Pied Piper" candidates like Trump, figuring that by unleashing the deplorables, they would force the Republicans to track hard right and make themselves unelectable. Another genius move.

Trump should not be underestimated. The Republican establishment lined up behind each of his opponents in turn, and he beat them all while barely spending a dime in the primaries. Clinton had the almost uniform endorsement of a vigorous press and outspent Trump by a factor of 2 to 1. He beat her too.

Trump has an uncanny ability to get the press to talk about nothing and no-one else. They think their constant attacks are hurting him, but when folks get to the ballot box, they find big and bad but well-known Trump versus an empty space where Clinton/Rubio/Cruz/Jeb's campaign is supposed to be. Americans vote for the devil they know. They'll give a chance to someone with bad ideas over someone with no ideas (that they've heard).

Pardon my French, but fuck the so called progressives who just couldn't bring themselves to vote for Hillary.

These so called progressives are why we have a narcissistic sociopath with the keys to our nuclear codes.

Maybe those assholes should have taken a deep breath and recognized that moderates actually did smell the coffee by more the three million votes.

As I said in the beginning of 2015 it applies again :

"Trump once again is a formidable candidate. And once again direct attacks can help as much as hurt Trump."
