Could someone help me understand how increasing the Military budget keeps us more safe and\or gives the US more leverage around the world?
I am asking as sincere question. I truly don't understand how a never ending military build up helps the US, especially when it would appears that Russians are modernizing to a new ara of warfare that is cyber warfare. Example is the 2016 election. Also think about what would happen if they could take down a few major US banks by hacking into them. They appear to be thinking in those terms, and we are thinking about making sure we can kill a single person 1000 times over.
US General: "how many times did we kill them?"
Aid: "We estimate we killed each enemy about 650 times"
US General: "Too low, next time we need to bomb the shit out of them so they die at least 1000 times. We have way too much inventory that is over 25 years old; we have no room for the new stockpile was just ordered by congress because they have mandated we need more."
Throwing money to the military won't make the USA any safer. If a country wishes to strike the US, it can, and probably will, the only thing our military will be able to do is retaliate, it won't be able to stop any attacks.
During the Vietnam war, the president/s and the generals were obsessed with kill ratios.
Indeed it does not make us any safer; there is no one who wants to invade this country, let alone inherit all the dumb asses here as well the trillions of debt. Also since there are over 350 million privately owned guns around then it is kind of hard to subdue the crowd. Furthermore invaders probably don't like the "money" and corruption based attitude either, let alone holy "evangelicals".
Thus we only seem to need our military to "invade" other countries who never attacked us, as well to keep the war industry humming to help our employment numbers. But yeah "war tools" never give a return on investment so it certainly does not make this country "great" again. The deserts here are parked full with all that junk; so why not dump it in other countries as well. Our favorite hobby seems to be the "military" ; sorry but there are lots of other hobby's which give much more pleasure, instead of "death" and ruins. A very "sick" country for sure. What did the Vietnam war cost us? Any good result for us? What does the still going wars in Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan, still cost us everyday now already going on for more tan 17 years.
What is the fun of bringing all those coffins home? This country could have been great for everyone if we still would have all that wasted money on the military and our wars. None of our instigated wars made this world a better place. No one ordered us either to play "policeman" in this world. We barely can run our own country properly let alone that we are any good at "nation" building after our wars end.
