The church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem is a real oddity due to the fact that it is shared by the Greek Orthodox, Roman Catholic and Muslim religions, and the state of Israel just "stirred the pot" a little recently when they decided to tax the church, which caused it to be closed:

Moving the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem is another one of Trump's dumb decisions, but it is still scheduled to happen in May. Two days later, Guatemala plans to move its embassy there. Since the Palestinians commemorate Nakba Day on May 15, I don't see anything good happening here in the near future, and it's nothing that Jared Kushner is going to be able to solve.

Kushner will hopefully become a heavy liability.

666 5th avenue will lead to many more questions. Was Qatar punished for not loaning money to the family biz ? Time will tell what's acceptable or not.

Trump claims he can built this Embassy for peanuts (only about 250K?) Wow. Wish him luck with that (a lot cheaper than all his trips for himself) Also he wants to attend the opening of it. Hopefully the Palestinians will arrange an "great" reception for him.

Trump does not give a shit about the Israelis or the Palestinians -- only how his actions to move the US embassy to Jerusalem matters to his evangelical base back home. They love him for it. It's a necessary move for fulfillment of Biblical prophecy. It also bought him more votes.

But putting that aside, Trump's claims of cutting the cost of the new embassy from$1 billion to $250,000 (that's thousands and not millions) conflates two different numbers. The USA has had a consular office in Jerusalem for many years, and the $250,000 is the estimate of what it would take to upgrade that building to full "temporary" embassy status. Those upgrades can be done relatively quickly, but from a political standpoint Trump could declare that the embassy complete and moved at almost any time the suits him. So May 1st is a good milestone.

The plot of land for a new purpose build embassy from the ground up has already been "saved" for years by Israel with the hope that some president will make it happen. The cost of that building (or is it a fortress?) has been bandied about as $1 billion, although in some circles the cost will end up being much higher. Anyway, Trump has either confused the two numbers or has deliberately conflated them to make him look like a deal maker.

I've read also that Sheldon Adelson has offered to help pay for the cost of the new embassy fortress which will take years to build. Maybe the fortress can be named after him. Or better yet name it the "Trump House" and put a statue of Trump in the front courtyard as a sacred place where Palestinians can congregate outside and pray.Wink

    Fact Check Trump embassy building

You are correct, Schmidt. He is conflating the numbers for his base. The religous portion loves the idea of the embassy in Jerusalem even though it has nothing to do with “End Times” although they think it does. They also won’t bother with the thinking required to understand the difference. Personally I think that the upgraded consular “embassy” would provide a hell of a target for retaliation. But Trump likely didn’t think of that either.

Yes I think the Palestinians are already preparing their rocket launchers with the right GPS info.

As expected, the U.S. embassy in Israel has been moved to Jerusalem. Predictably, it caused a LOT of havoc.

Israeli forces kill at least 52 Palestinians protesting in Gaza as US moves embassy to Jerusalem.

    https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2018/04/gaza-protest-latest-updates-180406092506561.html

Israel invited 86 countries that it has diplomatic relations with to the ceremony, and 33 showed up. Here is the list:

It's been said that Trump is the most dangerous politician in the world, which I fully agree with. If you need any further proof of that, the article published by Poliitico should make you even MORE NERVOUS.

Officially, the embassy in Jerusalem opened today, May 14. The comments by both Jared Kushner and Steve Munchin show how utterly out of touch with reality these people are.

    https://www.cbsnews.com/news/us-embassy-opening-jerusalem-opening-today-time-watch-live-stream-updates-2018-05-14/

Since the embassy opening comes exactly ONE DAY before Nakba Day, it reinforces how utterly stupid the move is.

Nakba Day (Arabic: ??? ?????? Yawm an-Nakba, meaning "Day of the Catastrophe") is generally commemorated on 15 May, the day after the Gregorian calendar date for Israeli Independence Day (Yom Ha'atzmaut). For the Palestinians it is an annual day of commemoration of the displacement that preceded and followed the Israeli Declaration of Independence in 1948.

The day was inaugurated by Yasser Arafat in 1998.

During the 1948 Palestine war, an estimated 700,000 Palestinians fled or were expelled, and hundreds of Palestinian towns and villages were depopulated and destroyed.

    Palestinian refugees in 1948

These refugees and their descendants number several million people today, divided between Jordan (2 million), Lebanon (427,057), Syria (477,700), the West Bank (788,108) and the Gaza Strip (1.1 million), with at least another quarter of a million internally displaced Palestinians in Israel.

In the meantime the Palestinian death count has risen to above 90 (EU info); but yeah Ivanka, Kussner and McNuchin are all smiles being in Jerusalem; at an horrible "amusement show"performed for just the brain dead "evangelical Trump base", as well Trump himself and his cronies over here, who love to eradicate the Palestinians. The same as before in this country; the same "white Christians" who did love to shoot Indians and whip slaves or hung them and right now love to rip baby's out their mothers arms at the border. That mentality is still baked in, since 1800 and before and after. Get the barf bucket.

I wrote this before in another thread ( Trumps crimes)

Guy, you indicated it correctly that the present situation also was already created by the US in 1947/48 . They should have sent all the holocaust victims back to the countries where they came from instead, then we would not have had all the shit in the middle east for half a century; blame the "brainless evangelicals" in this country. Sorry to say everywhere the US meddles in this world, it becomes a mess. You can't task "island" inhabitants to do nation building; certainly not if they can't even run their own "island" banana republic and elect a con-man by not having proper laws etc.

Yes, the Trump clan all smiles while the Jews are brutally beating down Palestinians, it's sickening. Again, I won't be able to watch the national news, that would make me very angry, the sad part of this is that nobody is doing anything about it. Why does Trump hate Muslims so much? The other part of this is that Amerika's troops in the Middle Easy might need to go into a heightened state of alert. They're the ones that'll pay for this, not the instigator of it. Where the fuck are the UN peacekeepers?

yes, and in addition to that I also believe trump gets personal enjoyment at watching the violence and chaos he created.

An analogy would be sadistic sexual deviancy; a person who seeks erotic pleasure from inflicting pain on others.

I am not saying its sexual, but there is a good chance he gets an influx of endorphins when he watches TV and sees the chaos and harm that is a direct result of his decisions, just like the sadist gets a rush from hearing screams of pain during some fringe act of sex. He is like a firebug arsonist that gets high watching his own arson fires.

Even if this is only partly true, it means he will feel a need to escalate over time because the rush he feels will diminish. He will feel the need to create more and more harm and chaos to satisfy is his pathological needs.

trump is not religious, but i bet he loves the idea of thinking of himself as "The Second Coming".

...And if were living in an episode of the Twilight Zone, it would end with God appearing beforeTrump and saying "These are the End Times, but you are not 'Second coming of Christ', you are the Son of Satin, and I now banish you to hell created in your own image"

I would go further and say he is like a chronic alcoholic that needs to get drunk every day otherwise suffers from sever DTs withdrawal. Chaos and distruction is his addiction.

As a private citizen there were laws and social pressure that helped keep him in check. As president he is immune from all criminal charges and congress is waiting for the midterms to decide if voters hold trump politically accountable because they don't have the guts to do it themselves.

Yes your last para is absolutely true; a gutless/ lawless government; the laws here seem only to apply to the "people" but not to the government itself.
