Tasteless, Hideous People Flocked to Gun Shows . . .

Two major guns shows within the immediate vicinity of the Parkland massive AR15 massacre.

Tasteless, hideous people who voted for Trump.

Cars packed into the fields on the Miami-Dade Fairgrounds on Saturday, where the Miami Gun Show was being held – an event that was held in spite of the shooting days earlier that has left the surrounding communities reeling with pain. Attendees had their pick of handguns, shotguns, and semi-automatic rifles; the very kind of gun that has once again been used for mass murder.

In the wake of the mass shooting that killed 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, a pair of two-day gun shows opened their doors to buyers and sellers in Hollywood and Miami during the weekend.

Sponsored by the Gun Show Team of Boca Raton, the Hollywood show was taking place at the German-American Society, 6401 Washington St., from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Items for sale include new and used guns, ammunition, scopes, knives and various accessories. Concealed weapons permit certification classes also will be offered.

America has totally lost its soul to guns and gun violence.

Tasteless, hideous Second Amendment people rule our nation.

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

In regard to "A well regulated Militia":

The real reason the Second Amendment was ratified, and why it says "State" instead of "Country" (the framers knew the difference -- see the 10th Amendment), was to preserve the slave patrol militias in the southern states, which was necessary to get Virginia's vote. Founders Patrick Henry, George Mason and James Madison were totally clear on that... and we all should be too.

In the beginning, there were the militias. In the South, they were also called the "slave patrols," and they were regulated by the states.

I have directly benefited from the American wealth made possible by slavery even though I am not wealthy. It has been part of my heritage even though both my parents migrated from other countries and never owned slaves. We enjoyed the benefits of slave-derived wealth which has floated America economically years after slavery was officially forbidden.

And, we are still ruled by the Amendment which "which was necessary to get Virginia's vote. Founders Patrick Henry, George Mason and James Madison were totally clear on that... and we all should be too."

The stain on our nation of slavery and the violence generated by the Second Amendment.

Karen -- Thanks for sharing the information on the Gun shows. I live in Colorado and we also have frequent gun shows all over the state. Billboards are always advertising them, and some have political messages that will make you cringe.

Likewise thanks for sharing Thom Hartmann's 2013 article on guns and slavery in Truthout. I am a big fan of Hartmann and listen to his program on XM radio when I travel. He provides valuable insight into many of the issues of the day. I have referenced him in this website more than once. I read his book, Unequal Protection, several years ago and used it as a reference in one of my blog articles on SCOTUS. His article on slavery and the second amendment should be brushed off read and circulated again to a wider audience. Thank you for doing your part in that.

It was not a "gun" show, but Trump threw a big party at his place in Mar-a-Lago, of course with his "super "loyalists" with "money". I just about bet that members of the NRA were present. That same afternoon he visited the hospital and got there only with a smile on his face for a "photo-op". This guy is an total ego-maniac, who does not give a shit about these dead or hospitalized kids. I guess his "loyal" criminal Scott (FL) told him on how to use "the fifth". Scott claimed that a dozen times while procecuted for stealing money from hospitals in FL. Criminals who help criminals.

We are losing the concept of preventing the next shooting. Every state has a national guard. Use the national guard to protect schools. That could start tomorrow if people demanded it.

There are some 130,000 schools in the United States. The National Guard is a reserve force for national emergencies. Almost every one of the 348,000 National Guard members has a full time civilian job.

    Do the math.

The national guard is an organisation. I know as does everybody else that it is composed of part time people. The organisation could expand and hire additional people. Or would that be spending too much money to protect our schools. Every idea to protecting schools with guards gets a too much cost to do critique. So what can be done to stop the next attack ???

Common sense gun control. It works in Canada. There are 1.8 million gun owners in Canada, and their homicide rate by guns is 10 percent of the USA on a per capita basis. And I don't recall any mass shootings of school children in Canada.

Gun safety measures work in Canada. They can work here.

But for that to happen we need to vote out of office all the NRA enablers.

And how many people would the National Guard have to hire and train to protect 130,000 schools? Do the math.

6 per school for 780000. Too expensive?

About $31 billion. Yeah I'm sure Mitch McConnell will give it all of 5 seconds.

Point is there is no stopping the next mass shooting because nobody wants to pay for it. But for sure there will be demonstrations and rallys but no solution to mass shootings unless people are willing to pay for it. Spend trillions on wars around the world but ridicule billions to keep kids safe. Why is that ??????

Chet -- A reality check. Republicans control all three branches of government. And anything done in the Senate needs 60 votes. Liberals put forth all kinds of idealistic solutions to everything, but have no idea of how to make it through the legislative process into law.

We need to elect the right people first no matter what the solutions are (including mine) starting in 2018 at all levels of government. I support those grass root efforts that are targeting members of Congress who receive blood money from the NRA. If we can't elect a Congress or state legislatures or governors that will take action, then no, the killing will continue. It's a simple as that. That's the reality. The NRA blood money trumps any empathy that might be evident in public statements by our elected officials. Thoughts and prayers is all the NRA allows.

Furthermore, the gun issue has become one of the most divisive issues that divide Americans. It didn't used to be that way. Trump solidified it even more. The Russian meddling also helped to keep it that way. The NRA blood money is the icing on the cake.

So when I hit the streets to knock on doors for the 2018 election, I will know exactly where every candidate stands on guns. And I will call them out. Maybe I'll even show them clips of the families of victims from Sandy Hook to Parkland. I will try play to their emotions. And maybe I'll be joined by thousands of young people doing the same thing.

However, the last time I canvassed in a midterm especially targeting young people to vote (2014 election), I came up zero. They didn't care. I am much more optimistic this time around.
