Just by coincidence, North Korea just had a big military parade the other day (just before the opening of the Olympics), to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of its military. In addition, athletes from North Korea may be able to participate in the Olympics, and Kim Jong Un's sister will be meeting with the South Korean president. On top of all that, North and South Korea apparently have resumed talking with each other again.

All of this seems a little surreal to me. Perhaps the recent full/blood/blue moon had more effect on events than we realize.

Listening to some of the commentary on the proposed parade, the views are mixed. Colonel Jack Jacobs said it was a stupid idea, taking away from valuable training time for troops. He said marching is a waste of time and resources and doesn't serve any purpose. The world already knows we are the world's premier military country. We don't have to parade our troops, missiles and tanks to make that point.

On the other hand, a comment from a military family member is just the opposite. "It's about time they honored and recognized the jobs that our men in uniform are doing." Trump appeals to this latter demographic...cost is not an object.

A fitting tribute can be done at a podium in 5 minutes. Cost of a massive parade is probably huge. Spend that amount to provide housing for homeless veterans or to improve wait time at VA health facilities. Work towards lowering the numbers of military suicides. Give a one time bonus payment. Cost of ridiculous parade divided by number in uniform.

Yes T.J. don't forget the "parade" uniforms which have to be made in China, just like all of Trump's , Ivanka clothes. All the tanks will have golden badges with Trump logo on it like his hotels, also made in China. The parade itself will be held in front of Trumps hotel in Washington. Only Mueller won't be invited.

NBC just reported that Tim Kaine has demanded the the White House release its secret war powers memo.

All of us can agree that having a military parade is nutty, but the fact that Trump has a SECRET WAR POWERS MEMO should literally scare the crap out of us.

It should come as no surprise that America's Commander in Chief wants a military parade since waging wars is one of his favorite things.

The U.S. Government has been waging wars all my life and I was born when FDR was President!

America's founding fathers advised future generations to avoid foreign entanglements and one of America's greatest generals, General Eisenhower, warned future generations of the potential harm that can come from the powerful influence of the Military Industrial Complex.

America's Orwellian World of rot ignores all the wars the U.S. Government has been waging for generations, the total destruction of other countries, the on going war crimes where millions of civilians have slaughtered, maimed or tortured , the creation of millions of refugees and the cost in the trillions and the reason this Orwellian World (America's mass news Media) refuses to inform the American people about these atrocities is because that World is making trillions in war profits.

The Vietnam war was covered by America's mass media and eventually the war criminals waging that war were forced to the peace table because of the mass marches opposing the war but today most Americans are totally ignorant about what their warmongering government is doing.

Trump wants to brag about these wars and display the weapons that are committing these war crimes and anyone who thinks this display of arrogance and cruelty and inhumanity is a good idea can only be considered a sociopathic, soulless, degenerate.

Trump and his gang of criminals (the Republicans) make no secret of the fact that the U.S. Government has become a warmongering, corrupt, lawless Oligarchy on steroids.

Connie, yes they do love wars in this country; it feeds the war industry and consumes our tax money. Let alone how many people we killed around the world, who never attacked us in the first place. Plenty of people here still think people around the world "love" the US; however that is long gone since WWII. We are now the "bully" in the world with a "bully" leader on an "egoistic" isolated island.

90% chance it won't happen. but we all know trump, if 99 out 100 people telling him something is a bad idea, we can bet he will do it anyway.

And, I do hope he puts on a 5 star General military uniform and requires real 5 star generals to salute him in an official WH photograph.

Interesting. A military parade will do nothing to achieve what the military family member wants. That ship sailed a long time ago due to the detachment of the public from the military. I suggest Andrew Bacevich for his positions regarding the military and how the public does or doesn't relate to it. I also suggest Rosa Brooks' "How Everything Became War and the Military Became Everything".
