In the part of the country where I live (Washington state), its pretty clear the public at large are very angry with trump, and maybe even more angry with the Republican national party for not pushing back on him on important issues that, if trump had not been elected, they would not have tolerated in other elected republicans.
Republicans here don't dare endorse trump because they will be primaried by moderate republicans in the state. The only way republicans get elected here is to be moderate conservatives that progressive swing voters feel comfortable voting for.
In washington state, what is at risk for republicans is that they will be entirely wiped out at all levels, and it is all because of trump. Voters here very much want to let the republican party know they hold republicans responsible for trump's actions, and that likely will result in punishing local republicans that hate trump just as much as democrats. Here, trump republicans are viewed like being members of the Nazi Party, or KKK, etc; they have no chance in hell at being elected within the state of Washington.
