For obvious reasons, I do not watch FOX "news", but discovered this morning why too many people do.

The TV in the library at the resort we are staying at had on MSNBC last night. I found the discussions to be intelligent and accurate, and delivered at a pace that I would consider (as a former Toastmaster) to be a reasonable pace, complete with appropriate response.

This morning, the TV was turned to FOX, and I noticed the difference immediately.

The pace was roughly what you would run into talking with a fast talking used car salesman, with virtually no pauses between thoughts (which allow at least a few moments of introspection). In the few minutes that I watched, there was a lot of Democratic and liberal bashing, and I had to walk away before I threw a shoe at the screen.

We have had extensive discussions about Fox so far on this website, but I am afraid there is no cure for the faithful followers of FOX, some of whom I am related to. In view of the amount of drivel being put out by FOX, it is not surprising that roughly 33% of our population will support him not matter what he does or says.

Arizona -- I occasionally watch Fox News not by choice, but rather because it is on in the breakfast room of a hotel we are staying in...or at the gym. I am astounded by the utter disregard for journalistic professionalism. From Sean Hannity to Fox and Friends, the channel is for idiots. The only exception might be Shepard Smith who sometimes goes against lunatics and presents a more truthful accounting of the facts, for which he is castigated by rabid Fox News viewers.

I have often wondered whether Fox News created the extreme right mentality or they were just enablers for those already indoctrinated. In either case, they are No. 1 and hey America elected Trump.

Yes they are "enablers" for those already indoctrinated, due to the lack of proper education in this country related to learning "facts" related to "lies" at a young age. Churches are also one of the culprits pumping out "lies". In that respect 30% plus still live here in la la land, who can't tell the difference between "facts" and "lies", just like our 5th grade leader.

When I watch FOX news it is my choice. I think it is very educational to find out how people are indoctrinated to the falsehood of right wing thinking. I guarantee that the beautiful blondes of FOX have more to do with right wing indoctrination than anything Barry Goldwater has ever said. It is good to understand the method and when in discussions with right wingers it is good to have intelligence and good to know what they are thinking.

My idea of a good battle is when the opponent has no idea of what is hurting him.

Like others, I truly can't handle watching Fox News. The only reason trump doesn't Hire hannity, or many others at Fox news, is because it better for trump to have them at Fox News doing exactly what they are doing rather than at the WH.

The one exception is Fox's Sunday Morning Political show with Chris Wallace. Of All the sunday shows, I think he is one of the best. He never lets republicans off the hook or be used as talking point host, and because he is on Fox, he can get away asking hard news questions without appearing like he has a liberal agent. Generally speaking, his questions directed at republicans are as tough, if not tougher than MTP, State of Union (CNN), This Week (ABC), or Face the Nation (CBS). He doesn't ask softball questions, and does not make any effort to defend republican's agenda.

    true...

and by understanding the opposing side, often you can better understand them better than they understand themselves. Generally, in any type of fight\war\game\etc, the winning side wins because they understand the weakness in the opponent. A strong team (or player) doesn't try to convince themselves that they can win by believing false information just because it makes them feel good.... trump loves it when the media spreads false information about him, it gives him the advantage. trump: "Let them spend months going down a road that is 1000 miles long, and is a dead end. I'll even lead the way..."

Only the worst part of all of this is, that it is played out over the backs of the tax payer; how about all Trump's trips costing now already close to a 100 million. I rather have steady well educated leaders, as well steadiness/reliability in governing

America's Orwellian World (the mass news media) of distorted reality has a lot of forbidden subjects: Climate change, unending war crimes and wars costing trillions for two generations, the reality that America's government is a fascist, corrupt Oligarchy, the U.S. Congress funding war crimes and terrorist agencies like the CIA and the School of the Americas, passing fascist acts like FISA, creating a vast unconstitutional surveillance police state, militarizing of our police forces, passing laws protecting polluters and forcing the American taxpayer to clean up their toxic wastes dumps, giving billions in tax breaks to the 1%, refusing to remove deadly drugs that are killing thousands of Americans each year, ignoring vast corruption, waste and fraud in the billions in that Oligarchic cesspool by refusing to audit government departments, refusing to pass gun laws and classifying the NRA as America's most successful terrorist organization, ignoring the increasing homelessness in America, ignoring the increasing corruption of our election and legal systems and refusing to cover any progressive, democratic events, activities, marches or ideas.

One can only conclude that America's Orwellian World exists to keep the American people ignorant, uninformed, misinformed about facts, issues and reality that effect their lives and the American people need a news TV station and radio station paid for by the tax payers that will tell them the truth.

    Connie:

We already have publicly funded radio and television, and it is call NPR. However, the reason that we have so much trouble agreeing on things in this country is that our news sources are radically different, which is why it is always important to consider the source.

A 2014 survey by PRRI/Brookings (as reported by Business Insider) rated FOX as the most trusted source in America. Since PRRI stands for Public Religion Research Institute, you would likely suspect that the results are slanted – and you would be correct.

    http://www.businessinsider.com/chart-fox-is-the-most-trusted-tv-news-source-in-america-2014-6

The same survey puts public broadcasting and "traditional" news sources far down the list in terms of credibility.

PRRI divides its research into ten topics.

    • Abortion & Reproductive Health
    • Climate Change & Science
    • Economy
    • Immigration
    • Law & Criminal Justice
    • LGBT
    • Politics & Elections
    • Race & Ethnicity
    • Religion & Culture
    • Sports

The same year, Business Insider published a survey that measured trust levels of news sources by ideological groups. This survey was conducted by Pew Research Center. Amazingly, the results were directly OPPOSITE the results found by PRRI.

      http://www.businessinsider.com/here-are-the-most-and-least-trusted-news-outlets-in-america-2014-10

      PEW was started in 2004

    • PRRI was started in 2009.

    • I would trust PEW a lot more than PRRI, but this page will help to explain why so many evangelical Christians think that Trump was "chosen by God", and the rest of us believe that he is the worst president that we have ever had.

A guy living in a trailer in Tucson (my new home town) was arrested in October by local police for threatening to kill Adam Schiff. He is a 52 year old white male.

      Jan Peter Meister

Jan Peter Meister told police he was likely reacting to a Fox News segment when he left the alcohol-fueled voicemail, according to newly filed court documents. Mr. Meister, a convicted sex offender with a long rap sheet, was indicted on October 23. After a search of Meister’s residence, prosecutors also charged him with illegal possession of firearms, including a loaded .380 caliber handgun, a 9mm handgun and an American Tactical Rifle, along with 700 rounds of ammunition.

“Meister responded that he watches Fox News and likely was upset at something that he saw on the news. He stated that he strongly dislikes the Democrats, and feels they are to blame for the country's political issues,”

President Donald Trump has lately attacked Schiff perhaps more than any of his other political adversaries, often taking to Twitter to harangue the House Intelligence Committee chairman as “corrupt,” “shifty” and “criminal.” The president has also suggested several times that Schiff should be arrested for “treason,” a crime punishable by death. His attacks are often echoed on Fox, where Schiff is frequently featured as a villain during primetime opinion shows.

Meister faces a five-year sentence for threatening Schiff and a 10-year sentence for the gun charge.

Meister pleaded not guilty to the threat charges on Dec. 20. His trial has been set for March 9, unless Meister changes his plea by Feb. 21, according to court records.

New York Times:, March 22, 2020: Rupert Murdoch Put His Son in Charge of Fox. It Was a Dangerous Mistake.

Fox News has its internal problems now, and the big reason is that when Rupert Murdoch turned over the company to his son, Lachlan Murdoch, in 2018, the company has been a mouth piece for Trump and gutter politics. It was Lachlan Murdoch who ran with the coronavirus is a "Democratic hoax" and all the other conspiracy theories put out by Trump. But now as the Fox News network is seeking to crawl back to a more mainstream position on the virus, it is proving difficult. And Lachlan Murdoch is seldom seen at the office anymore. Maybe he has the virus himself or is self quarantining.

The biggest danger is that FOX News is aiding Trump in his re-election. Most of it is falsehoods and distortion of the truth. How come an nutty Australian with lots of money can run this show? In any other civil country such an "station" would be banned. Our "free speech" law goes to far related to such type of propaganda. The media should at least operate under certain "norms" and "behavior". But yeah this is still an uncivilized country of barely 250 years in the making, with plenty of rednecks who never learned to eat with an fork and knife let alone went to an school with educated teachers. Sunday school at church does not help much either.
