    TIME Nominees 2017

Anyone know how TIME evaluates the candidates?

I hope TIME magazine has some decency and finds ethical reasons that trump should not given the award.

Adolf Hitler was chosen as Time's "Man of the Year" in 1938.

If Time choose Trump, I hope the article goes into how he lied so much that it made lying fashionable. I would further delve into how he skillfully conned the American people and the media while being totally incompetent for the job.

On MSNBC they showed a list of the candidates Mueller was on it. Thus I hope they choose him instead of Trump, who thinks he's the one elected.

That would be the way to do. We know trump, he'll claim the award as proof of his personal greatness, and we'd be hearing about it in his speeches, tweets, press conference, and interviews endlessly forever after. If mueller were to get the award, it would eat away at trump and claim it was rigged against him.

I would rather it go to Trudeau or Macron...or the Chinese leader Xi for how he has been able to manipulate Trump. Mueller needs to maintain a low profile. Not until he has finished his business should he be considered.

Sounds good to me; however none of these three you mentioned have done "great" things yet. Thus make it Bill Maher.

TIME Announces 2017 Person of the Year Shortlist on Today Show

I notice "the Dreamers" are on the list. They would also be a good choice.

I hate to be a Debbie Downer, but I have a hard time understanding why anyone cares who the TIME person of the year is. I get why it was a big deal when TIME was popular, but less than 1% of the country has a subscription to TIME Magazine today.

This all seems like a big PR stunt to me. TIME gets back in the headlines once a year even though no one cares about them anymore.

Sorry to anyone who still has their subscription, but this seems like a publication that is in its last throws and is desperate for any attention they can get.

    Wwjd:

When I read TIME's explanation of the Trump pick last year, I noticed that the main criteria seemed to be that they picked the.person who had the most influence on world news during the year.

As noted above, they don't always pick nice people

    Stalin was actually selected twice

Last year"s article made it clear that they did.not like Trump very much.

The "silence breakers" just got selected.

    Good choice

My suggestion would have been the under belly of America. Invisible and not represented one moment and driving this short bus the next day. Ah those crucial citizens of the Dakota's, Idaho, Montana, Missouri and Alabama. Democrats still don't officially believe that they actually exist.

Indeed Silence Breakers is an excellent choice if it's referring to those who are now being heard. I look forward to reading a specific definition.

The above is Time's article discussing their choice. I understand that Trump came in 2nd.

In related news, Al Franken has announced that he is resigning from the SENATE. His resignation speech is worth reading, since he calls out both Trump and Roy Moore:

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2017/12/07/al-frankens-defiant-unapologetic-resignation-speech-annotated/?hpid=hp_hp-top-table-main_fix-frankenspeech-110pm%3Ahomepage%2Fstory&utm_term=.4515b1a7adaf

Since he comes from a "blue" state, he will be replaced by another Democrat.

Franken asked some of the toughest questions of Trump's nominees, so his tenacity will be missed. The silver lining, though, is that his resignation may make it harder for Roy Moore to get elected.
