From what I've read so far, Chris Painter decided to resign at the end of July, not fired by Trump like Comey.

What is more disconcerting is the way Trump and Tillerson seem to be downsizing the US State Department as part of the administration's shrinking the size of government. Offices, programs and budgets are being cut back drastically or eliminated entirely with little thought about the potential impact on America's influence and standing in the world.

Furthermore, Tillerson seems to be showing little leadership or energy to get into the nitty gritty of what is the function of the State Department and it's many agencies. One gets the feeling he doesn't enjoy his job. Maybe he should resign.

Yes Schmidt absolutely correct. If you see the what Tillerson reported after the Putin meeting then I wonder. If after 2 hours you report only a couple of things, then no one knows what was really said; everything should have been recorded. Like I said so many times rules and laws apply only to us "the people", but do not apply for the Washington bunch. Again this shows that our government is lacking discipline and correctness. The worst part is "we" put them there.

Yes "we" put them there. And many of the "we" are casting blame at each other. The real problem is those who choose not to participate in our democracy by not educating themselves on government and voting intelligently. They become prey to the unscrupulous politicians like Trump. Of course, I've preached that point many times on this website so I'll just leave it.

Despite all that, our government year after year has survived the change in leadership from one administration to the next because of the thousands of dedicated civil servants who actually run the government. It requires good people at all levels to make the government function from the IRS to Social Security to the FBI to Food Stamps administrators...to the park rangers and the EPA and many more that we all take for granted until something doesn't work.

Now even those folks are under fire. Everyone is fair game under this administration. It really gets down to the incompetence of Trump in not knowing how to manage or hire people, and showing little interest in learning about what the various agencies do. Incompetent leaders hire incompetent people. And many good people will choose to leave or not join Trump's team because of the lack of leadership and "know how" of Trump. They don't want to be associated with failure. Thus we end up with nobody in a key post or another suck-up.

I have much anxiety about the next 3 1/2 years.

I think the end is near for Trump. Lashing out at Sessions and ordering the Senators to stay in town are not the actions of a politician. They are the actions of a sociopathic dictator. He was that in the business world because it worked. It doesn't work with politicians. As more people around him are attacked by him his wall of picked yes people may start to crumble. He just said that he would not have picked sessions if he knew sessions would recuse himself from the Russia investigation. Only reason to say that is to warn his next pick that Loyalty to Trump supercedes ethics.

Yes Schmidt you said it correctly; I've "preached" as well many times what is wrong with this country and its government, its antique laws, no vetting of an President, no term limits, lobbyist system, capitalistic system, corruption etc. Read all my mails.

Should I repeat that awful long list?

I just read the Russian investigations are being expanded to include first family activity and financial activities. That's exactly what's needed. Long overdue.

Yes T.J. I bet the "money laundering" will become the biggest issue. Read my mail about the Russian who attended the Don junior meeting, who now all of a sudden has all his mansions for sale ( I guess to quickly "white wash" the money invested in it. )

I believe the fat idiot is taking his orders from the Kremlin and Putin to dismantle our government. All that stands in his way to complete the coup is the pentagon. So he will get rid of anyone who disagrees with him until he finds a sycophant who will allow him to dismantle that also. He is arguing with McMaster over afgqnistqn. Bannon wants to hire private military like blackwater . Expand the idea and privatize our military so that the billionaire class actually on and control it. Then he can give orders totalitarian style.

This is a coup d etat, people.
