Things are going to get worse too. With all the brick and mortar stores closing, there are only distribution center jobs, which are not located in every area of the country. Amazon's purchase of whole foods is going to put a lot of people out in the cold, as is Sears which announced that they're closing an additional 20 stores on top of the 200+ stores they're closing. Hardest hit by these closures will be teens looking for work who are trying to pay for their college and expenses between semesters, and job seekers who are in college looking for supplemental income.
And still, the Federal minimum wage stands at $7.25 an hour, those making that little bit of money need to work 2 jobs or more to survive.
Speaker Ryan used his deceased father's social security to help pay for his college, and he and other GOP members have been trying to gut all of these social programs. When people can't get enough to provide for themselves or their families, they might be going to the polls and voting for democrats next time. But these kinds of people need to feel a deeper pinch in the pocketbook before it dawns on them that they voted for the wrong party. Some are already revolting at GOP town hall meetings when the Trump voters found out their Medicare and Medicaid are going to be gutting. It's like look up, look down, look at my thumb, gee you're dumb with some voters.
