When something questionable happens it usually is paid administrative leave. Paid vacation which allows them to catch up on Netflix at home.

Cops sure have fantastic defense lawyers. The cop's attorney here in Chicago has been lobbying the prosecution and judge for a change in venue but the judge Friday said he was fed up with the defense's delay tactics. (Jayson Van Dyke) cop vs. Laquan McDonald unarmed teen

Cops arrested 2 black men for being in a starbucks.

    washingtonpost.com/news/business/wp/201...

"The two men were taken to a police station, where they were fingerprinted and photographed, their attorney Lauren Wimmer told The Washington Post on Saturday. Her clients, who declined to be identified, were released eight hours later because of lack of evidence of a crime, she said, adding that the Starbucks manager was white."

Heaven knows black folks just hate coffee. snark/

And so, the Starbucks CEO has ordered his stores closed for a day for race sensitivity training.

I have a problem with that. You cannot train away the racism which in engrained into a person which probably began in childhood development.

Just as you cannot take a white supremacist sympathizer like Donald Trump and turn him into a person who loves Latinos, blacks, Muslims, and other races and religions. Once racism has been taught, it is very difficult to get rid of, it's always there. One could ask Donald if he is a racist, and he'll swear that he isn't, but deep down inside, we know different.

Glad you brought up the coffee kings. There's another viral video that shows a man who asked to use the restroom and was denied for not making a purchase. A white man walked out of the restroom and he asked him if he had made a purchase. He had not. On Facebook the term Negrophobia was used to comment on the wide spread problem. Without smartphone videos and social media, it would would all be swept under the rug. It makes me angry and I am 100% white. The silence of millions is the reason it persists still. Those who are not affected can still speak to the unfair injustices. Many more should.

Laquan McDonald's shooter's lawyer is asking the judge in Chicago for a change of venue because they believe his client cannot get a fair trial because of publicity and other reasons, e.g. internet searches topping 1 million for the name Laquan McDonald.

Laquan's killer is a Chicago cop who pumped 16 shots into him because the cop felt he was being threatened because Laquan was walking away from him. This is a video of the incident: youtube.com/watch?v=Ow27I3yTFKc

The video is very disturbing (warning)

IMO, the cop should stand trial in the neighborhood where he killed an innocent human being unnecessarily.

The silence is deafening. Thus the problem is strong.

From watching the Starbucks Video it seems the cops asked the two ,black guys to leave Starbucks and apparently they didn't leave and then they were arrested. Is that the general understanding ?

    1. Why did the Starbucks employee call the cops? Did the manager feel threatened?

I believe one of the individuals the cops arrested told the cops that they were meeting someone there.

    2. Why did the cops arrest the two people? Did the cops feel threatened?

In fact, in the video, the man they were supposed to meet was telling the cop that the people were meeting him there, yet, the cops continued to follow through handcuffing and arresting.

Have you ever gone somewhere to meet someone, in a public place, arrived early, and your party hadn't made it there yet, so, you sat down inside or parked in a private lot? (without being arrested?) Were you ever told to leave a business establishment because you didn't make a purchase immediately?

I agree with everything you said but if a cop asked me to leave I would leave. Unless I wanted to be handcuffed , arrested and led out of the restaurant. Innocent people have gotten shot and killed in similar circumstances. Is it worth taking a chance on losing your life and endangering others. Remember this:

Almost all I talk about is how unfair this country treats the poor and working poor. The two men could have left when the cops asked them to and it would have all been recorded and made the news. That would have gotten similar public notice , generated more support, extolled greater sympathy and been less polarizing .

Identical application of rules and standards. Is that too much to ask or expect ? If just doing what the cops asked was the applicable band-aid.... the lunch counters in the south would still be segregated. Mentality suggest they are.

Life doesn't give you fairness. The law enforcement and courts should.

That stray dog (in the neighborhood) digging through trash cans isn't a problem if it stays out of your yard but the remaining rubbish blowing down the road as the wind picks up is dirty smelly unclean clutter. We have a problem but technically the dog wasn't in "my yard". Well, leftover garbage (metaphorical) is everywhere. Garbage is garbage. Tell the grandchildren not to touch or smell it.

That was 60 years ago. This was last week. Trouble is anti segregation was more tolerated than supported. Was the incident last week an isolated incident or a representation of failed racial progress? There have been laws passed to fight racism and integration but how has that worked. Where is unemployment the highest?

"Hand it to Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz: He doesn't shy away from a fight that he thinks is worth having. After asking people not to bring guns into the company's stores and supporting same-sex marriage, the next social issue he's addressing is race relations in the U.S."

That was in 2015. There was no mention of Schultz trying to improve race relations in all the press about the two guys arrested and forced out of Starbucks by cops.

We can certainly pay our law enforcement officers more as warranted, but they also need to be screened more carefully including psychological profiles. I respect the professionalism of most peace officers, but a few bad apples can undermine their profession. While the many police encounters that are brought to an amicable ending are never publicized, the ones that end with tragedies by a trigger happy cop tend to stereotype the vast majority of policemen unfairly.

WTF...the DNC to blame again? You lost me on that one...as usual.

Perhaps your experience with Democratic politic exposed you to high level Democrats with no imagination, compassion or awareness of lower income problems. Where I grew up County politicians were very involved. They influenced compensation case outcomes, helped people get jobs and political appointments. They were integral parts of daily life. From what you say I get the impression your local contingent just carries out orders as they come down the pipeline . That would explain why you don't understand my criticising the DNC.

This is 2018. We would expect people to be more tolerant. The cops were called because blacks were loitering in a fine coffee establishment, they evolved from making bad coffee taste better, but not at accepting people as a whole. The cops and their department are failures too. Starbucks making coffee taste better IMO is debatable, and the police motto of "we serve and protect" IMO is debatable too.

Yeah, this is 2018, and in some places in the USA racism is alive and doing well. Why? Pure ignorance, and purely uneducated morons living among us. We haven't come much farther than the 1950's.
