While driving home from work today, I heard on NPR that France plans to ELIMINATE all energy production from coal-fired plants in THREE YEARS. The country also plans to reduce energy production from its nuclear plants.
Surprisingly, France currently only gets 1% of its power from coal plants:

In contrast, the United States gets approximately 30% of its power from coal, but the major source (at 33%) is natural gas. Production from renewable resources is only about 16% - but it should be a lot higher. Believe it or not, there is currently a program in place to produce natural gas from pig poop - but that's a story that I will share with you at a later time.

Some of the conservation policies that France is enacting have caused fuel prices to increase, which has made Macron a very unpopular guy in France. At this point, diesel fuel is 1.48 Euro per liter, which is a lot higher than fuel prices in Russia or its neighboring countries. Since the Euro is equal to 1.13 American dollars, the price of a gallon of diesel works out to about $5.50 a gallon, and people all over France are protesting.

In spite of the opposition to his policies, though, Macron is sticking with his policies, which is exactly what a REAL leader would do.
Trump, naturally, is thanking Saudi Arabia for keeping our gas prices low, but the majority of our oil imports (40%) comes from Canada. Only 11% or our oil comes from Saudi Arabia.
The United States is actually the 3rd largest oil producer in the world, but total production is actually not much lower than the amounts produced by the leaders, who are Russia and Saudi Arabia:

America currently imports 10.14 million barrels of oil per day from 84 counties, but a lot of people would be astonished to know that America also EXPORTS 6.38 millions of oil per day to 186 countries:

As to why we don't import less, and export less, is a question that somebody smarter than me will have to figure out.
