Donald Trump's stand against on the Paris Climate Change Agreement is just difficult to understand. As per the Vox article:

Vox: Quitting the Paris climate agreement would be a moral disgrace

"No laid-off coal miners will get their jobs back if President Trump pulls the United States from the Paris accord on climate change. No extra oil rigs will sprout in the Gulf. There is no employment upside to an “America First” retreat from global leadership on one of the few issues that can accurately be described as a potentially existential threat to humankind.

"There is only the profound immorality of abdication — of gleefully passing a mounting problem on to our children, and on to the poor."

In looking at all the possible reasons for Trump to withdraw, I can only come up with one that makes sense. President Obama was largely instrumental in getting it agreed. His efforts have been widely recognized globally to get 190 countries to put their signatures behind it.

And that folks is why Trump is against it. As Dutch said in another thread, Trump has committed himself to undo every accomplishment of the Obama administration. Why? Because he hates the guy and is doing it for spite. No other reason makes sense to me. He just can't be that dumb. But hate works wonders on the mind.

    My opinion...

I guess he also did listen to Norquist an total idiot who thinks it will reduce the impact "subsidies" (so that money can then be given to the 1%) and says China and India are building more coal fired plants . Let's power the White House with coal, sounds good to me.

I agree 100 percent. Donald almost seems to have a pathological hatred of anything that has Obama's name on it.

Who cares if he winds up killing the planet when he now has the power to undo years of sensitive negotiations conducted by the hated black President? What Donald doesn't realize is that this will only weaken his negotiating position on various things because the United States is now going to be seen as a country that can't be believed anymore. Donald may give his base of loyal followers a "win" (whatever that means) by pulling out of this agreement, but he just screwed over our country for decades or more because countries will no longer look at the United States as a good faith negotiating partner.

Yes Jared I fully agree with you this time; this indeed is the most stupid thing Trump did; he will not be allowed to negotiate anything about the Paris accord; the over 200 countries will stick to it because it is voluntary. The US lost its position in the world for sure. China has become the new leader. This will be the start of the downfall of the US , as Rome did. As I said Europe will flourish the US will get back into the 50's.

Kerry and Obama said some very correct things, but who of the filthy butt crawlers in the GOP will admit the truth?

Yes, Trump hates Obama and would love to wipe Obama's Name from the history books. It's frustrating to have a man as president that has the emotional development of child.

Its also possible that his decision is influenced by the fact the Europeans don't care for him much, and it clear they don't respect him. He can't handle that kind of rejection, and I personally believe he doesn't' care what kind of negative impact it will have on our country, he's ticked off at Obama, and Europe, and he's decided to take his ball and go home with the perception that they will come back to him begging for his forgiveness.

And, man, oh, man, that speech he gave was soooooo dark and depressing. It was painful to listen to. I had put my DVR on pause several times just to get through it. The way he talks about the US, its like we are living in the wasteland of a post-nuclear war, and their so little hope

Another motivating factor for Trump is $$$$$. Looking at it from Trump's perspective\mentality, he sees it as an opportunity to sell\trade (over valued) US "Climate Change" stock for something worth more $$$$ right now. If Trump Inc were in the energy business, such a solar energy, he would be promoting clean energy with the same gusto as he attempts to sells oil, coal, etc.

I personally don't think Trump actually spends his day thinking about what is going to benefit him personally\professionally, he simply believes Trump Inc is a perfect model on how the US government should work and what the US should value, thus he perceives that what is good for Trump Inc (the past, present, future), will automatically be what is right for the country. He is frustrated that so few accept that (except his base), and the rest of us are just too stupid to see obviously brilliant he is. And he doesn't care if we understand what he says or does, he just wants us to accept that he is smarter\better than any other past president, especially Obama. His ego needs for every single person on the planet to accept that he is superior to Obama. If could revive the dead, he'd try to convince them too. :)

A major scientific report issued by 13 federal agencies on Friday presents the starkest warnings to date of the consequences of climate change for the United States, predicting that if significant steps are not taken to rein in global warming, the damage will knock as much as 10 percent off the size of the American economy by century’s end.

Although the report was mandated by Congress, and made public by the White House, Trump still thinks that global warming is a "hoax". Since the report was released on Good Friday, it won't get the attention that it should have, which explains the timing of its release.

Early in 2017, 17 intelligence agencies came to the conclusion that Russia has interfered with the 2016 election, but Trump did not believe that conclusion either.

As Schmidt has said more than once about his followers, Trump is simply "willfully ignorant".

Yes Guy, sure this country will find out and does already found out what climate change causes. Just for the record, we never had so much damage ever as was done by all the hurricanes last year as well now the CA fires, which are still burning.

But yeah it is time we get rid of the idiots who make money of it by polluting this planet just for money.

The Daily Caller was started by Tucker Carlson in 2010. Not surprisingly, the Daily Caller says that the data used in the climate report was "cherry picked":

While driving home from work today, I heard on NPR that France plans to ELIMINATE all energy production from coal-fired plants in THREE YEARS. The country also plans to reduce energy production from its nuclear plants.

Surprisingly, France currently only gets 1% of its power from coal plants:

    https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/france-coal-power-station-emmanuel-macron-davos-shut-2021-a8176796.html

In contrast, the United States gets approximately 30% of its power from coal, but the major source (at 33%) is natural gas. Production from renewable resources is only about 16% - but it should be a lot higher. Believe it or not, there is currently a program in place to produce natural gas from pig poop - but that's a story that I will share with you at a later time.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coal_power_in_the_United_States

Some of the conservation policies that France is enacting have caused fuel prices to increase, which has made Macron a very unpopular guy in France. At this point, diesel fuel is 1.48 Euro per liter, which is a lot higher than fuel prices in Russia or its neighboring countries. Since the Euro is equal to 1.13 American dollars, the price of a gallon of diesel works out to about $5.50 a gallon, and people all over France are protesting.

    https://autotraveler.ru/en/spravka/fuel-price-in-europe.html#.W_4CEehKiUk

In spite of the opposition to his policies, though, Macron is sticking with his policies, which is exactly what a REAL leader would do.

Trump, naturally, is thanking Saudi Arabia for keeping our gas prices low, but the majority of our oil imports (40%) comes from Canada. Only 11% or our oil comes from Saudi Arabia.

The United States is actually the 3rd largest oil producer in the world, but total production is actually not much lower than the amounts produced by the leaders, who are Russia and Saudi Arabia:

    https://www.google.com/search?rlz=1C1CHBF_enUS814US814&ei=OAX-W9XBMaiAk-4PuseX-Aw&q=totla+oil+production+by+country&oq=totla+oil+production+by+country&gs_l=psy-ab.3..0i13.85616.93154..93808...0.0..0.151.3593.2j29......0....1..gws-wiz.......0j0i71j35i39j0i131j0i67j0i131i67j0i10j0i22i30j0i13i30j0i8i13i30.QD5tp-YkkmA

America currently imports 10.14 million barrels of oil per day from 84 counties, but a lot of people would be astonished to know that America also EXPORTS 6.38 millions of oil per day to 186 countries:

    https://www.eia.gov/tools/faqs/faq.php?id=727&t=6

As to why we don't import less, and export less, is a question that somebody smarter than me will have to figure out.

True to form, Trump tweeted this morning that the riots in France are Macron's fault because he supported the Paris Climate Agreement:
