Fortunately, a government shutdown was averted, and the country will now keep running until the end of September.

To get the short term funding in place, though, the Republicans made some LARGE concessions, which are outlined in the article posted below.

    washingtonpost.com/news/powerpost/palom...

In brief, though, here is where the Republicans conceded:

1 . no border wall funding

2 . non defense funding will go UP, not down

    3. the National Institutes on Health will get a funding INCREASE, not a decrease

    4. the EPA funding is almost exactly the same last year, not cut by 33%

    5. Planned Parenthood will continue to be funded

    6. the increase in military funding is MUCH less than Trump asked for

    7. the Republican "poison pills" are all gone

    8. Obamacare subsidies will continue as before

Donald Trump - Master Conman. I am cynical as hell. He's likely to ask for 10 things that he doesn't care about so he can later concede those items. I will remain cynical because they're all dishonest and I think the whole damned group laughs heartily about how easy it is. ... Candy from a baby.

It is really interesting just what happened. Obama couldn't have done better.

Of course, this is the 2017 Omnibus bill that should have been passed last October 1st, but is only surviving with Continuing Resolutions. I think it has as much to do with the incompetence of the Trump administration not having any idea of what is required to move a bill through Congress. Trump may have said, "give the Dems what they want and let's go all in on the 2018 Omnibus bill, and the passage of Trumpcare". He needs a victory and too many things are cluttering his thinking.

However, it doesn't look like Trump understands the latest and greatest version of Trumpcare either judging by his answers to questions on CBS.

Actually, it's not that different than if Congress would have passed another Continuous Resolution to fund the government until October 1st. Democrats cheer because all of Trump's outrageous cuts didn't happen this time. But Dems didn't get anything except to avoid cuts. And that is being touted as a victory.

Indeed Schmidt ; I would not cheer too early. This guy is unpredictable, thus more surprises could pop up; he still leans on Bannon thus the "destruction" continuous. Everyday he does something weird or stupid; it is an bull in the porcelain shop.

Now dislikes congress because they passed a spending bill. Trump should have a short list of people he likes, the list of people he dislikes is about 16 miles long.

This is a coup . He is trying to deconsruct government. He wants to be a dictator. He envisions himself as the great leader. What he is doing is both absurd and terrifying. He is working to destroy our democracy.

He will fail. He will fail miserably and eventually be a footnote in history. How that exactly happens is open to all kinds of conjecture. We should have a contest. How will they bring him down. It is obvious to every one that this train has left the track. The Congress just functioned anyways. The Senate is functioning. The courts are functioning . The people are acting . So far , I am impressed by the continued stability of our nation in a spite of the current crisis in our executive branch.

It's not the first time we have had a crisis in this branch of our government. But it's probably the worst crisis we have ever faced. I'm still not sure we will survive it, I believe we will. And it won't be the last one either way.

    Hang in there

The subject was the "spending" bill; I don't see this as an victory; if I look at the border protection "money" in it, then I see somehow Trump has won to waste time and money deporting innocent people. What do we get in return? In an lot of places they are short of manpower for work the lazy Americans refuse to do. Ripping family's apart, that will improve this country for sure. Just give Trump plenty of money to do so. Sure an big win Dem's. Shaking my old head.
