The Apprentice: How it really works

Synop: The original show was that 16 people, most with MBAs, would compete against each other to become "The Aprentice". Each week Trumps fires 1-2 people until there is only one left. Much like musical chairs. Seem straight forward, but it really more like a magic trick.

Here is how it really works. The winner is decided in advance of taping by going through a typical interview process, and the TV show is really about of firing everyone else. The trick is that the individuals, nor the audience, knows the entire show has been predetermined. On day one, Trump knows who's going to be the last person standing.

There is another version which has occurred during the series, 2-3 individuals have been picked in advance as finalists, and they compete to be "The Apprentice". Very much like the first version except the actual winner is not determined before taping begins.

Except for those who are predetermined winners, the rest are hired to be on the show so they can be fired. They, of course, don't know are hired not because they are qualified, but because they are not qualified. Nearly all have personality traits that make for great reality TV.

I admit to never watching the program, or for that matter any of the realty TV programs that pretend to be reality. I notice that Arnold Schwarzenegger says he quit the program. Trump says he was fired.

"Even if asked [to do it again] I would decline.” Schwarzenegger said in the interview. “With Trump being involved in the show people have a bad taste and don’t want to participate as a spectator or as a sponsor or in any other way support the show. It’s a very divisive period now and I think this show got caught up in all that division.”

Schwarzenegger added that "I love the show… but I turned it off because as soon as I read Trump’s name I’m outta there!'”"

Trump says he was fired because of bad ratings.

The post is not political in nature. Now that I think about it, it should have been a blog post.

Its just background how that reality TV show works, and that Trump has a good understanding on how to use entertainment effectively. He is all about theater, making something appear to be real\dramatic\larger-than-life, when in fact its a manipulation of reality. In the case The Apprentice, its rather smart to pick the winner in advance, then script the show so that person appears to be the best of the best; hire 1 winner along with 15 stooges, trumps fires the stooges one by one until only the original winner is left. The entire show is about firing people, not hiring.

If you have not seen the show, then it might not make as much sense. I found it fun\interesting to deconstruct how the show works.

I haven't watched it. Trump being involved was reason enough not to watch it from the start beyond that it was a non-reality show. Non-reality shows are just that, non-reality.

I've never seen the show either (I'd rather sleep than watch that rubbish) but, I concur with your analysis 100%.

The problem is the typical American actually believes in this rubbish and isn't bright enough to actually deconstruct this BS. The typical American isn't stupid (although I love to call them that) they are ignorant. Stupidity is having low mental abilities, ignorance is far worse because people choose to be ignorant rather than being born that way.

I would and can say I've never met a Conservative who wasn't ignorant, however. Ignorance is a lage part of what defines conservatism.

Yes P.R. I like to add the word "naive"; they seldom think farther than the length of their noses. Trump has the same habit; he does not research anything and thinks the moon is made of cheese. The word "analyse" is an dirty word here; they rather use an "bible text" to get it their way, or turn to FOX news to get "educated" the wrong way.

I always wondered what they have learned at school here; especially in the "bible belt", "coal belt", "rust belt" and "dumb belt".
