Today I asked a woman if she heard about the Academy awards last night. She rolled her eyes and said "Yes, I feel bad for white people (a sentence I have never said).... it was an obvious ploy for racial sympathy for the blacks". My reply was how could blacks orchestrate such a thing ? I then said how can you feel sorry for white people when things go their way 99.8 % of the time ? She persisted and it was apparent that we weren't going to agree.

For anyone who doesn't know what happened, The final award was for best picture. The wrong envelope was said to have been given to the presenters which is odd and very unusual. La La Land was said to be the winner but it was not. A movie about white people dancing their way to Hollywood.

My reaction at the time was it was some kind gag\stunt that was poorly executed. It very much could have been a politic statement. Hillary won the popular vote, but Trump became president.

I would have bet my entire 401K plan a "black" film was going to win after the lack of blacks being recognized has been in the new lately. Just the way it is .... if it was a mostly white film that had won, everyone would have been calling racism

Over at radiofreeliberal.com Zowie laid out what seems to have happened. It is in the section for movies, music and performing arts.

Maybe, or it could be just a trend like everything else in entertainment tends to be. However, it is my understanding that several of these films have been in the works for many years, and it was last year uproar that got a lot of them made. It not about racism, its about how much money the film is going to make $$$$, and sadly minority focused films tend to be perceived as not being profitable.

If you were my neighbor, I would move. How you discount groups of persons is sad. Carnival side show interesting but sad. Maybe non whites make good music, movies, etc. Doesn't get past your filters.

Luckily I'm an "alien" from Mars, a bit "green" and "pink". I'm looking for other Martians to start an new "party" . Not the "green" party but I like to call it, the party from "hell" because Mars is hell. At least I hope they don't discriminate us aliens.

We don't have jobs there; Jesus visited there and takes care of us all; he enjoys the place and learned "sand ski-ing " and sand "fishing" without fishing line (not invented up there yet). No taxes or healthcare; not needed. Except our rocket fuel has run out, so I'm stuck on this stupid planet.

You can always disavow your US citizenship and ask whatever remote island your ancestors hail from for citizenship. And if you decide to stick around afterwards then you will experience first hand the terror undocumented immigrants feel on any given day.

I say undocumented because I have this crazy weird thing called compassion. I know Republicans don't understand what compassion is, but I promise you that it's a real thing.

I have compassion for the infant who was brought here when they were six months old only to find out later in their life that they aren't actually a citizen of a country they have lived in for their entire lives. I have compassion for people who fled war torn Central America and risked their livelihoods to come to a country that is directly responsible for the drug wars that are ravaging their country. And I have compassion for the Russian mom who got got pregnant when she had a student visa and raised her US citizen child here in America even though she didn't have the legal paperwork after her visa expired.

You see what's different about you and I is that I actually care about people. I don't get scared when I see a black man walking towards me and I don't feel anger when I see a Hispanic person building a house. I don't automatically assume that anyone who doesn't look like me is a bad person or here without the proper paperwork and I don't think that I have a right to tell two grown adults who they can or can't love.

So no, I will never call someone here without the proper paperwork "illegal." It demeans them and only goes to show that you have zero compassion for people who have a far more difficult life than you.

I don't kick someone when they are down; I actually offer them a hand to help them up.
