If there was a new party I would be very supportive. Team: Dead in the ditch, seems insultingly out of touch. I have not yet read details but am hungry for different.

Tony, Putting effort into an "new" party takes a lot of time, let alone if it works. By the time anything like that "works", then we already have had the GOP doomsday behind us. It is right now urgent that the DNC gets seats back so if they vote they can at least stop future crazy things. Right now the DNC is totally powerless and the GOP walks right over them every day.

I'm totally surprised that this party can't find an dynamic person to lead and create an very attractive platform for the party which motivates people to vote Democratic. Schumer or Pelosi does not work; they are too much settled in their old ways, when the Dem's still could swing votes with little effort. I think that it right now it takes way too long to get organized; that sets us back even more. Also mostly I see that only 46 votes are entered; so who are the 2 votes who are absent or vote for the GOP side? Kick them out please.

Jared thus you are "positive" about an"one" party takeover; in other words you approve an situation like now that the DNC has no say whatsoever in what is happening now. Like "mental" patients can buy guns now. An anti environment idiot is appointed to the EPA etc. Also they will push through their choice of Supreme Court candidate, with all kinds of consequences. No Jared "democracy" is totally out of the window if one party has the total control; the Dem's who have only 48 votes max can't stop things and will never be able to get votes above the 52 with which the GOP can block everything. So it is an total "power grab" How are we going to ever get back to an "normal" situation? May be in 2020, by that time the damage done with this Trump guy and is ir-repairable. How long will it take to bring this country back on track??It took Obama 8 years and still could not reverse the damage done by Bush like all the wars.

Furthermore as long there is an FOX news and an hard core of Trump supporters as well Trumps plan for voter suppression then it will be an uphill battle. The only thing we can hope for is that he gets impeached and all his cronies die. For the rest I give it not much hope that things ever will get back to an normal "society". Pessimistically speaking it will be an downward slope for this country, unless drastic changes in mentality and education are made.

Go to the DNC web page. They want money before they even say Hello. Makes me scream out "why" what positive thing are you doing ?

Obama stepped into the biggest possible mess in 08. Can't really blame him for hiring the people that ccaused the mess to fix the mess and he did. The mess still exists with a lot of runaway econonly killers like the record setting numbers of new dynasty trusts. Making it fair will fix it but that will be very hard while you have pseudocrats saying its not fair get used to it.

How in the world can you come the the conclusion that I approve of what's going on simply because I informed you that this isn't the first time one party has controlled two branches of government? That's one hell of a leap.

Democracy is not out of the window if one party has total control because the same democracy can throw that party out if they overplay their hands. Democracy would be out the window if Donald succeeds in getting rid of a free press or if he decides to declare himself a dictator and the military lets him get away with it.

Republicans being in control doesn't equate to the end of democracy in general. It's just what happens when people are too damn lazy to participate in their democracy because a new episode of Game of Thrones is more important than voting.

It's vital to not elevate Fox "News" higher than they actually are. A few million people tune into Fox "News" on any given day. There are nearly 320 million people who live in the United States. I'm not saying they don't have a loyal following, but don't make them out to be this behemoth that hundreds of millions of people watch every day.

One thing that Fox "News" viewers do though is vote. They vote in every single local, state, and Federal election. They vote for their school board members and for city comptroller. They vote in mayoral elections and for state senator and congressperson. If there's anything we need to learn from a loyal Fox "News" viewer, it's that elections do matter and sitting on our ass and complaining about everything doesn't get us anywhere.

One party control in our country has never led to totalitarianism. If that were the case then the Republicans would be able to void the Bill of Rights and take away our right to freely express our opinions on this website.

We have had one party control over the Executive and Legislative Branches many times throughout our short history and yet we still kept chugging along while guaranteeing the minority the ability to protest and have their voices heard. Most recently the Democrats had full control from 2009-2011 and the Republicans had full control during separate times in George W Bush's tenure. The Democrats also had one party control from 1961-1969 while the Republicans had full control during various times in the 1950's. The list goes on and on (and on).

So no - one party control has not and likely never will turn into totalitarianism.

Jared you show again that you under estimate of what is going on; you are way to nice and think the 3 branches of government will keep things going in the right direction. However my feeling is that Trump will undermine these 'protections' ; he's already far ahead; he's got control already of 2 branches; the third will be under his control once Corsuch is in the Supreme Court. just watch my words; his objective is total control. Nothing else.
