That and/or 1 in 4 in the current administration are committed to satisfy the Russians because they have very deep pockets. Trumpgate - 2017. At the foot dragging rate perhaps it's more likely Trumpgate - 2018.

Now we know that President Obama warned Trump about Michael Flynn in the 90 minute meeting the two had shortly after the election. But Trump hired him anyway.

It wouldn't have taken much vetting to find out a whole bunch of reasons to not hire Flynn. So either the Trump transition team didn't vet Flynn or they did and Trump decided to hire him anyway.

I'm leaning towards the idea that Trump really wanted Flynn just because Obama expressed his dissatisfaction with Flynn. Obama had previously fired Flynn in 2014 and that only elevated him in Trump's eyes as another opportunity to flaunt an "Obama hater" in Obama's face. Nothing else seems to make sense.

Trump is sick. He has an obsession about Obama that clouds his judgment.

Yes Schmidt your last line says it all; the guy is an lunatic ; he did not "vet" Flynn, but we did not "vet" Trump, neither ever will get his tax returns. So who is more stupid; "we the people" or Trump?

Dutch -- It is not the responsibility of "we the people" to vet any candidate for office. That is the job of our law enforcement agencies, the party apparatus, the organizations for the office he/she is seeking, and the media. We the people do not have the resources or security clearances to vet anyone.

Having said that, you are right to point out that Trump and many of his cronies have not been thoroughly vetted before seeking office. Hillary Clinton was thoroughly vetted but Bernie Sanders and many of the Republican candidates were not...especially Trump. Disclosure of tax returns and other financial holdings should be a legal requirement of every office including the presidency.

What's more, what did Flynn offer the Russian government in return for his collaborations? While the republicans seem to be in charge of investigating him and Trump and staff concerning Russian meddling and hacking, it may never be known because the congress will probably say they found nothing. I'm with Schumer in appointing an independent investigator/s.

Schmidt,as I said many times the system here, as well the non solid laws about vetting people in high office is laughable. Yes it is the responsibility that "we the people" make sure that our system works; thus demanding that the system should change. Looking at the total B.S. in this country, like you even admit, that an 1800's document is adapted to today's situation by an zillion lawyers without any common sense. Like the "electoral college", vetting high level positions properly including the President, having better qualification rules for all management positions ( Sessions, DeVos, Price, Pruit, Carson are not suited for the job, even are anti the job they are supposed to do) thus this whole government is disfunctional. We've got plenty of laws but the essential ones are missing or screwed up. Thus again I say due to an Constitution where is tinkered with, without looking what are the essentials needed to make it work is like flying an plane without an trained pilot.

Nothing is coherent here in this government; all pieces of an non fitting puzzle glued together; an typical American culture problem is that people here are unable to ever look at the big picture first before creating details; everyone is schooled on one subject and works with that with the blinders on. No wonder Trump never learned coordination ( starting at "A" ending at "Z") nor world affairs; just only thinking as an ad-hoc greedy corrupt bully.
