There is a program called bait car. Police leave a specially equipped car in a high crime area. Car is stolen and multiple cameras record the entire incident including questioning after apprehension. The police can shut the car down and lock the doors. I watched as they left a late model red escalade running with driver door open in a high crime area. Obviously profiled the area. When the theif takes the car the police let the car drive for some distance before shutting it down. The interrogation afterward is obviously for entertainment. I believe most jurisdictions have laws about the status of leaving a car. This show is obviously exploiting for profit. Right, wrong, illegal or not worth discussion.

It is entertaining. I have watched it. I know I wouldn't take it. Politically incorrect ? Hell yes. Baiting is correct. Sad what's sometimes done for or as entertainment.

Baiting is not any better than cops and detectives baiting a person buying a dime bag of marijuana, it's wrong.

They modify the scenario to make it interesting. They could disable the car as soon as the theif starts to move. But to make the show interesting the theif is allowed to drive off. Maybe a few blocks up to a mile. Letting the ttheif drive is endangering motorists. The actual arrest also draws the situation out.

I have never heard of this show, but then again I don't watch reality television. However, a quick search of the show tells me that it was cancelled five years ago. Apparently there aren't enough people willing to hop in running car and drive off to keep a series going on forever...

Garbage like this reminds me of "Cops."

Certain Americans love watching other people get tackled, beaten, and humiliated on live television. Maybe it's because these worthless shows allow an already miserable person to feel just a little bit better about their shitty life after watching it.

What isn't talked about is how most of this nonsense is tossed out in court because there's this crazy Constitutional right that forbids government officials from entrapping citizens.

I have seen it many times. They do dramatize things but it usually goes to the judgemental fork in the road where you must choose to take the nice running car that you couldn't afford or to honestly walk away. The cheap fun is when 1/4 Miles away they kill the car and lock the doors. I guess the Romans had gladiators for fun at someone else's expense. Every second is video taped (outdated term) and harsh words bleeped out.

Let's face it, A&E was probably the inventor of "Garbage Television", like dog the bounty hunter, duck dynasty, etc... Discovery is or was just as bad, with the likes-or dislikes of Sarah Palin. It's one of the reasons I stopped paying for cable and satellite TV, now I'm using over the air TV, which isn't much better but at least I get to watch PBS more often for news and documentaries. Yeah, if anyone's ever been snared into something, it's pretty bad the way they make a person feel about themselves. Watching Escape TV for me is good, I see forensic files, FBI files, crime 360, and occasionally the first 48, they enlighten me on how good old foot detective work finds out who done it. Over the air channels will give some people up 60 channels of sheet to choose from.

Community members confronted a circle of police in Chicago's Englewood neighborhood over a "bait truck" allegedly filled with Nike shoes and left open by police aiming to lure potential thieves and make arrests.
