Journal News: Read: Full transcript of Donald Trump's National Prayer Breakfast speech

Donald Trump just can't stay within the bounds of decorum. Presidents have traditionally given speeches at the annual National Prayer Breakfast usually with a theme of how faith based individuals and organizations have helped make our country a better place to live...the usual feel good stuff for those of faith. Nothing controversial ever.

You can read the full transcript of Donald Trump's speech at the Prayer Breakfast at the above link. It is cringe worthy...partly scripted and partly off script. Onr can tell the difference in styles. Sheesh. I will extract a few paragraphs:

"It was the great Thomas Jefferson who said the God who gave us life gave us liberty. Jefferson asked, 'Can the liberties of a nation be secure when we have removed a conviction that these liberties are the gift of God?' Among those freedoms is the right to worship according to our own beliefs. That is why I will get rid and totally destroy the Johnson Amendment and allow our representatives of faith to speak freely and without fear of retribution. I will do that. Remember.

"Freedom of religion is a sacred right, but also a right under threat all around us and the world is under serious, serious threat in so many different ways. And I've never seen it so much and so openly since I took the position of president. The world is in trouble, but we are going to straighten it out. OK? That's what I do. I fix things. We are going to straighten it out. Believe me. When you hear about the tough telephone calls I'm having, don't worry about it. Just don't worry about it. They're tough. We have to be tough. It's time we're going to be a little tough, folks.

"We're taken advantage of by every nation in the world, virtually. It's not going to happen anymore. It's not going to happen anymore. We have seen unimaginable violence carried out in the name of religion. Acts of wanton slaughter against religious minorities, horrors on a scale that defy description. Terrorism is a fundamental threat to religious freedom. It must be stopped, and it will be stopped. It may not be pretty for a little while. It will be stopped. We have seen ... And by the way, General, as you know, James 'Mad Dog' -- shouldn't say it in this room -- Mattis. Now there's a reason they call him Mad Dog Mattis. Never lost a battle. Always wins them and always wins them fast. He's our new secretary of defense. Will be working with Rex...

We have to feel safe and secure. In recent days, we have begun to take necessary action to achieve the goal. Our nation has the most generous immigration system in the world. But these are those and there are those that would exploit that generosity to undermine the values that we hold so dear. We need security. There are those who would seek to enter the country for the purpose of spreading violence or oppressing other people based upon their faith or their lifestyle. Not right.

"As long as we have God, we are never, ever alone. Whether it is soldier on the night watch or the single parent on the night shift, God will always give us solace and strength and comfort. We need to carry on and to keep carrying on. For us here in Washington, we must never, ever stop asking God for the wisdom to serve the public according to His will.

Enough...read more at the above link.

Makes sense. The church goers are probably also political donors so he's going to give them the occasional mention. He doesn't believe a damn word of it but as long as the check is in the mail...

I saw this yesterday in the Denver Post...good humor by Garrison Keillor.

Donald Trump’s tremendous Sermon on the Mount

It's Keillor's take on how Trump would deliver the Sermon on the Mount.

I just wonder what "sermon" he will give to the mother which had to leave her children and got deported. That is what you get with fake "bible" hypocrites.

Trump got to be president against all odds. An examination of Trump's campaign spending supports that he did not lace a high priority on winning. So against all odds, common sense and objective reasoning Trump is now president. Under those circumstances most people would assume they were destined to be president and be president to carry out a mission. Trump appears to believe he has a mission from god and his actions so far indicate that mandate must be to carry out modern Crusades. He as much paraphrased that goal in the excerpts Schmidt printed from the prayer breakfast speech. I find it absolutely incredible.

How does pussy grabbing align with God ? Nothing more disturbing than when a power mad overgrown five year cites god as his reason to attack every person in the world. Make no mistake , the drump intends to be the king of America. We are witnessing a coup.

Yes your last line is correct; he wants all the power he can get, via every trick he can think of . His followers are way too stupid to realize that they certainly will not get any benefits from him ever. He's only an"fear" monger, but does not produce food on the table for the poor.

If you're a white male with a penis it makes pussy grabbing acceptable but if a 23 yr old Lesbian said it, the fire would rain down from heaven.

That release should have been a final nail in his coffin but 8 years of suppressed bigotry that was getting people who have trouble forming a full sentence talking politics. Now we have this. As his clip said, he could murder someone and 50% would forgive immediately. Crazy.

    Coup ? Sounds interesting

This thread is from the 2017 prayer breakfast so rather than start a new one, I'll tack on his 2020 prayer breakfast transcript.

Rev: Donald Trump Speech Transcript 2020 National Prayer Breakfast: Trump Goes After Romney and Democrats in Speech

    A few excerpts:

    Donald Trump: (01:44)
"But this morning we come together as one nation, blessed to live in freedom and grateful to worship in peace. As everybody knows, my family, our great country and your President, have been put through a terrible ordeal by some very dishonest and corrupt people. They have done everything possible to destroy us. And by so doing, very badly hurt our nation. They know what they are doing is wrong, but they put themselves far ahead of our great country."

    Donald Trump: (02:32)
"Weeks ago and again, yesterday, courageous Republican politicians and leaders had the wisdom, fortitude and strength to do what everyone knows was right. I don’t like people who use their faith as justification for doing what they know is wrong. Nor do I like people who say I pray for you, when they know that that’s not so."

The rest is largely bragging on his achievements and pandering to faith based people.

I'll just leave it at that...

Yeah, its totally bizarre and offensive. There are so many things he never can let go of, not even temporarily. If he were at a wedding, he'd give the same F'ing speech as toast to the bride and Grown. His scope of awareness is strictly limited to himself.

The psychological aspect that I find interesting is that Trump always sees things from what he does not have; he perceives his glass is always empty no matter how full it might be. He just got a huge victory by not being convicted for crimes he committed, yet he is laser focused on attacking people who said publically "I will not stand down in the face of corruption". Trump is raging mad that a single member of Republican senate voted against him; it ruins a perfect unanimous Republican vote in the senate. It trul;y is impossible for Trump to be happy with having 99.9% of anything, he demands to have 100%. He is the little kid at the birthday party that doesn't want anybody else to have slice of cake, He wants the entire cake for himself, and if he can't have the entire cake, then he goes about throwing everyone's slice on the floor so that they can't eat theirs. That is Trump, he either get 100% of what he wants, otherwise everyone has to pay the price.

Want to know who Trump is, watch Billy Mumy in the Twilight Zone as everyone around him lives in fear of being wished into the corn field.

The worst part is that the "people" here elected him; so who is guilty? Is n't time to do something about the education here. DeVos is about the worst you can get, who only as Trump wants to fill her pockets. The mentality is going downhill fast in this country; religion never should be an government issue; governing should be done with "earthly" common sense and should take care of the "people" of all colors and religions. Thus in other words deal with all religions the same way. Separation of "church" and State should be maintained. Trump is the biggest hypocrite there is; he's not religious at all but fakes it if it fits him. He's the devil in sheep's clothes. Tax the churches that will help; they don't need private jets.

Strictly speaking symbolically, Trump is a living example of the antichrist.

He is the embodiment of all the traits that this country has strived not to be for over 200 years. He embodies that if someone else has something you want, then you should use all your abilities to take it from them. For Trump there is no right or wrong, there is just taking what you want from others, and manipulating others to achieve your personal goals. Trump has no ideology morality, or convictions, or if he does, it's all centered around him as if he is God; all that is wrong is about how people are standing in his way from getting what he wants, which is often trivial by normal standards.

Well electing Trump will go down in history as a major fuckup by the american people, but in contrast it won't make the top 100 fuckups in the history of the United States.

As a country founded on various principles, there has been a lot exploitation by men like Trump over 200 years who gamed the system to their advantage which resulted in many people being harmed and exploited for the elite few that held power during their lifetime. During our lifetime Trump is just one of many a-holes that has manipulated the weak minded for personal gain. Trump's time will quickly pass and he will not alter the trajectory path of the United Stated in any significant way. It simply sucks to have such an inept person as president right now.
