This is not America. Whatever happened to “Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed, to me: I lift my lamp beside the golden door.”

Does that only pertain to white Christians? If so that goes against every single thing this country stands for. This is the first time in my adult live that I can ever remember being truly ashamed of my country.

Donald is playing directly into the hands of anyone who wishes to do us harm. Seriously - all they need to do is just sit back and watch our country destroy itself.

Yes Jared, welcome, you got it right. Even it goes so far now that Trump/Bannon wants to control all E-mail/Facebook etc. of "foreigners" Read Schmidt's mail about what Bannon is all about; he is also now appointed to the National Security Council. This guy is an REAL Nazi and follows Hitlers model. So there is more to come.

Eventually there will be retaliation. I just hope the spin doctors can't wash their hands of the cause and effect.

Much like Karl Rove was called "Bush's Brain", I think that the same thing could be said for Steve Bannon. He is Trump's brain...and indeed as you dig deeper into Steve Bannon, it is a brain that is very disturbing. Trump's brain is bad enough, but if he gets much of his advice from Bannon, then we have much to worry about.

According to JM, negative propaganda could aid ISIS/ISIL. Time will tell. Should have been under Muslim ban. Forgive my mistake.

Yes Schmidt; If I look at the picture of with whom he has surrounded himself; it is very troubling. It looks like Hitler's cabinet. Also the "weakling" butt crawlers like an Priebus, Ryan, Mc. Connell makes me sick to the bone.

It has been worse. I remember when Tuesday was "N" day at the swimming pool. Get together and fight for the underdog not desparation.

These lyrics by Tennessee Ernie Ford are cold hard truthful:

"You load sixteen tons, what do you get?

Another day older and deeper in debt

Saint Peter don't you call me 'cause I can't go

I owe my soul to the company store"

Make the economy fair and everybody will benefit.

My god...why do you ALWAYS turn every single thread into one about the working man? An out of work coal miner has absolutely nothing to do with a ban on Muslims.

    Seriously. It's just getting absurd.

No strawman, it is about the lower classes. You can strawman all you want to change my nnessage but it is about the working class and how neglect of the working class made Trump president. Keep on defending the status quo and you will see the worst of Trump in the future. You can defend the current economic conditions as good and improving and criticize under paid people for being lazy, but you are wrong. The real indicators are getting worse. Movie and restaurant business is down, crime and violence is up, the DOW passed 20k with no real reason. You need to pay attention and learn instead of subjective strawmanning. If you could come up with and objective strawman argument that would at least show thinking. But subjective strawmanning to criticize is shallow.

Furthermore you were the one that said you have never been more ashamed of your country. I was pointing out that your memory does not include the history of this country. Denying history because something is not in your memory does not make your post more significant or sensational or important.

"An out of work coal miner has absolutely nothing to do with a ban on Muslims."

"N" day at the pool and citizens held prisoner by their employer are shameful treatment. Citizens fought that kind of treatment and some gave their lives fighting it. That should be taken serious.

Blatant strawman, even worse to interject "out of work coal miner". You are the one that continually strawmans beyond reason.

It is actually irrational to make your own post about out of work coal miners and then attack it. There is no connection.

The subject was "What is happening to my country" Thus Chet look at the "big" picture of the downfall of the US. History already will tell you, what is going to happen here. All Empires disappear after an while and the next one stands up. In this case bow to China; the next Empire.

Jared said the above. I was just pointing out that there have been many instances of great shame. Jared is not the first person to suffer.

My original post was about Donald's Muslim ban and lamenting how he is bringing out the worst in our country. I quoted The New Colossus poem that is on the Statue of Liberty and worried that Donald only cares about White Christians.

You turned it into yet another rant about how there used to be n-word days at the swimming pool and once again talking about the working man's troubles.

My frustration with you is that you are laser like focused on one thing and one thing alone. It's impossible to talk about any other topic without the downtrodden working man being brought into it.

Hell - I have a feeling you would blame a comet hitting earth on the United States government and big bankers colluding together to stick it to the workingman by wiping them off the face of the earth.

And seriously man. I fully understand what logical fallacies are.

Now - will you please stay on topic? If not then just don't bother participating in this thread because it's getting frustrating having every single thread be hijacked to conform to what you want to talk about.

But this thread isn't about all the things we should be ashamed about that have ever happened in our country; it's about one specific thing.

That's what I'm so frustrated about. It is impossible for you to stay focused on the topic of any thread. You have to always expand it and make it about you. Sometimes people just want to discuss a topic that they have on their mind and not about the history of the labor movement of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

I'm also not suffering. Not in the least.

I'm an educated white male who is a byproduct of centuries of white privilege. Donald's Muslim ban won't affect my ability to come and go from this country as I please nor will it prevent me from going about my daily life without fear of being stopped and harassed by the police while walking down the street or getting menacing looks by workers and other patrons while I'm shopping at the convenience store.

That doesn't mean I can't wish everyone else would be treated the same way. And it doesn't mean I can't feel shame that our dear leader is telling Muslim's they aren't welcome here.
