Dylan Matthews, Vox, January 20, 2017: Here’s how America will change as soon as Donald Trump takes office

"Donald Trump reportedly told Fox News’s Andrew Napolitano that he plans to issue as many as 200 executive orders by the Monday after his inauguration. A team of advisers headed up by the Heritage Foundation’s Stephen Moore has been working on what they call the “First Day Project.” So here are a few:

Issue an executive order to direct the building of a wall on the southern border with Mexico.

Issue an executive order suspending the Syrian refugee admission program.

Issue an executive order banning immigration from “terror-prone regions where vetting cannot safely occur,” and “extreme vetting” for all other areas.

Issue an executive order to withdraw from the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal with Asian and other Pacific nations.

Issue an executive order to withdraw from or renegotiate the NAFTA deal with Canada and Mexico.

Instruct the Treasury Department to label China a currency manipulator — an action that enables the administration to levy retaliatory tariffs against the country, which would then either be subject to World Trade Organization arbitration or spur yet more tariffs from China, sparking the beginning of a trade war.

Rescind big-ticket environmental executive actions of the Obama area — including the Clean Power Plan and other greenhouse gas regulations .

Rescind Obama's executive actions on heath care such as the birth control mandate, deemphasizing the employer or individual mandates or changing what counts as a "hardship exemption" to the individual mandate.

Some of these will stretch out days or weeks just because his administration is not completely in place so he doesn't have the staff to write the actions or process paper work. Of course the Heritage Foundation will be there to assist much like ALEC assists Congress in writing legislation.

I have no other information on the rest of the 200 planned executive orders. We will find out in due course and be shocked.

Meanwhile, no actions will be taken by Congress regarding all his conflicts of interest.

Those without wealth will be nothing. Grist for the mill. He will profit personally and will have information, access and protection to pad his pockets beyond their deplorable beliefs. Thank God he wasn't black or a woman. By mid year the fools will wake up and realize they are no longer needed and the BS they were promised is nowhere to be found. He immediately made it more expensive to buy a home....... A small assist provided by the "last president" would have made home ownership more easily affordable. First canceled action. If they can't afford to buy, they should rent. Hmmmm.

Tony, are you really surprised? Carson's new job/club will do whatever Trump says; he's that type and won't last long.

Another of the first day action. We all saw the side-by-side photos of the Obama 2009 inauguration crowd versus the sparsly attended Trump crowd. It's made it's way into the social media so fast before the Trump people could claim record crowds. One of the retweets of the photos came from an individual at the Department of Interior. The response was quick:

Interior Department banned from Twitter after retweet of smaller-than-usual Trump inauguration crowd

"The Interior Department was ordered Friday to shut down its official Twitter accounts — indefinitely — after a National Park Service employee shared two tweets that noted President Trump’s relatively small inaugural crowds compared to the numbers former president Barack Obama drew in 2009.

“All bureaus and the department have been directed by incoming administration to shut down Twitter platforms immediately until further notice,” said an email circulated to Park Service employees Friday afternoon."

If this is the reaction to something as innocuous as a tweeter post by one employee, what message does it send for the next four years?

Schmidt, as I said in quite a few threads: this country will slowly but surely move to an "dictorial" banana republic, which includes censorship as in Russia. Congratulations America.

I too watched Trump's rambling and disjointed speech to select CIA members at Langley today. It was just another variation of his stump speech with all the same overused adjectives...amazing...wonderful...great...etc. dishing out praise to the CIA folks and castigating the media as dishonest. Really embarrassing.

He cited the crowds at his inauguration yesterday as an example of the media dishonesty by showing vast areas empty of people. He claimed he had upwards of 1.5 million people (amazing crowds) that he could see stretched all the way across the full extent of the mall.

The official estimate of the crowd was only 250,000. He didn't mention that number nor did he acknowledge that some 500,000 people (mostly women) were marching in Washington as he spoke.

It is the same ole Trump.

I tuned into Fox News, and they weren't covering the women's march either.

Oh, and someone needs to get him a thesaurus so he can start using other adjectives.

Trump's impromptu trip to the CIA to praise the CIA and blast the media with a bunch of falsehoods is disconcerting in itself. The fact that he then doubled down by sending Robot Sean Spicer into the press room to read a statement blasting and threatening the media is a cause for alarm. After the "hot under the collar" reading of the statement, Spicer simply walked out refusing to take any questions.

Trump seems totally obsessed with the crowd size at his inauguration and claims it is the biggest in history, a false point that has been so easily debunked by several reputable sources. The bigger point though is that if something as trivial as the crowd size at his inauguration could set Trump off into crazy land, what will happen if there is a terrorist attack somewhere against the USA? The propensity for both he and his press secretary to lie so easily is cause for real worry when there is something much more important to address. Can we ever trust Sean Spicer to tell the truth on anything after his despicable performance on Saturday?

If I was a reporter there, I would have shouted to him as he left the room: "Are you a robot?"

Yesterday he was again on his "Israel" issue and keeps on insisting to move the Embassy to Jerusalem. What the "hell" for?? The guy is an absolute idiot; why provoke things, if you don't need , or benefit from it?? I think an President's main job is to try to keep "peace" everywhere not to "needle" others. The Palestinians will see this as an huge insult. What an total "asshole" is this guy .

For those who listened to the Saturday briefing (another version of his stump speech) at the CIA Langley headquarters and were wondering about the uncharacteristic cheering in the audience. CBS now confirms that Trump brought his own 40 strong cheering section (props) with him to cheer and laugh at his jokes as he made digs at Democrats.

PoliticusUSA: CBS Confirms Trump Brought His Own Studio Audience To Clap For Him At CIA Speech

This isn't anything new. He's done it on other occasions to make it appear he has more support on an issue than he really has. From Politicususa:

"Intelligence people were “stunned” and “offended by the president’s tone,” CBS reported U.S. government sources tell CBS News that there is a sense of unease in the intelligence community after President Trump’s visit to CIA headquarters on Saturday.”

"Also, Trump did bring cheering props, which fits with how he has operated previously in requiring a cheering section – a sort of laugh track of supportive extras like those his campaign hired for his announcement event. It has been confirmed by Trump insiders that the President loves props."

Cameras were not allowed to show the audience because some CIA agents were also in the crowd. From what has been reported the agents remained quiet while the props cheered. Read into this what you like. At Sean Spicer's press conference today he dismissed the reports at first but later admitted that maybe 10 (versus CBS's 40) of Trump's staff were present. I am inclined to believe CBS.

This afternoon Spicer in the "press conference" promised that he never would "lie". Thus again he lied, because he was asked this question and said: They were all CIA people. Unbelievable indeed. My wife said already why do they show only the back of the heads?

I should add that President Trump using the CIA as a political tool to ramp up his ratings probably did more damage than good. As the CBS article indicated, several of the CIA members present at the meeting did not appreciate what Trump did, and they are the ones leaking the information to CBS. Trump is using other meetings with "props" in attendance to demonstrate a kind of unity. The only real unity he has is with his base of supporters.

I expect all these shows for the media will enhance his ratings because they have no opportunity to rebut or push back until after the event...and then only by leaking to the "dishonest media".
