Another of Donald Trump's proposals in his interview with the Times of London is to end US sanctions on Russia for its annexation of Crimea in return for a nuclear arms reduction deal. As per Reuters quoting Trump:
"They have sanctions on Russia — let’s see if we can make some good deals with Russia. For one thing, I think nuclear weapons should be way down and reduced very substantially, that’s part of it. But Russia’s hurting very badly right now because of sanctions, but I think something can happen that a lot of people are gonna benefit."
Now what kind of deal is that? Does Trump not know that we already have a nuclear arms reduction treaty with Russia negotiated by President Obama called New START. It entered into force on 5 February 2011 and is expected to last at least until 2021. Visiting with the Times of London reporter he may have been caught unaware and decided to offer up something without knowing what he had in his hand already.
Or maybe that's another treaty that Trump plans to scrap and put in place his own...one that will undoubtedly look just like New START...but with Trump's name on it.
