    Gun Violence Archive 2016

The subject of gun violence has largely slipped into the back pages (ho hum) with the media fixated on all things Trump. Anyway, I thought I would share some gun statistics for 2016 that the gun cult can be proud of. The above website doesn't get much publicity so I give it a plug. Here are some gun stats from them just for 2016 up to Christmas day:

56,528 incidents of gun violence in America

14,624 deaths by gun violence (excludes 20,000 suicides by guns)

    29,893 injuries by guns

377 mass shootings (more than 4 people shot and/or injured) in 2016. That's more than one a day.

    2,108 accidental shootings

Merry Christmas and have a prosperous and safe New Year. Don't become one of the victims of gun violence in 2017.

Yes Schmidt an great reminder; I see for 2017 little improvement, because our new "leader" wants only more guns on the street. Especially the number of "suicides" will go up because of Trumps policies. What an country, at least we are "number one" in that "non-culture".

Very sad and far too at the front of the societal platter. What does it take for millions to see that they are not the solutions to any problems At all ?

Schmidt, I would support any gun safety, control law or suggestion you propose. Wouldn't have to even read it. Although we differ in beliefs your comprehension, evaluation and proposals are textbook. I believe a definitive comprehensive proposal executable within 3 years would provide ground work building trust. First further alienating gun owners needs to stop. Nobody trusts anybody that dictates policy on personal decisions. Rank and file will support suggested inroads. Lecturing and threatening will ensure continued failures and align owners with zero tolerance for legislation. If there was anyway to gather data I am sure it would show gun ownership by individuals has increased and only response to polls has changed.

Wishful thinking but we ain't seen nuttin' yet, I'm afraid. When the country can elect a pscho like Trumplestilskin to represent us do you really think gun control is anything more than a fantasy?

The biggest problem with gun control is that nobody knows what it is or can define it. So far gun control can most easily be defined as a liability vote loser and a campaign issue slogan. It's biggest importance is an issue flag to wave. Gun control advocates are afraid to define it although they battle opponents with it. That is evidenced by the adversarial approach to pro gun advocates. Schmidt can probably compose a proposal that would get general support but yet be a liability challenged by both sides. All gun control proposed so far can be easily viewed as open ended letting pro gunners cry confiscation. Somebody has to bite the bullet and present something comprehensive.

If the only ones being killed by guns were NRA members then America would be free of these deadly weapons within a decade. The NRA is misnamed and should be called Murder Inc. by the mass media and every America who hates this cruel and insane carnage.

Guns kill far too many Americans. That is without question. While guns definitely kill, they're what some equate with feeling safe. Interesting article on numbers of deaths and America and our twisted opinions.

The problem is "guns" here kill the "wrong" people; how about Trump and his cronies?

I so agree. I hope all members read the link I posted above. When 'muricans are more afraid of guns being taken than they are of a loved one dying.... things might be beyond repairable. Please read the story.

Yes Tony I read it; I always thought the same; that is how Dutchmen think ; 'muricans" can't think because "real" education related to these things as described, is not given; instead they invite an Breithart guy to lecture his crazy Nazi idea's. Welcome to the "new" America.

    Copied from my Facebook:

"Everybody please pay attention to your surroundings and stay safe. Sad when you sit in your own home with a gun right beside you cause some crazy monster is out there."

There is a guy running around with a 15 year history of violence Bill Boyette Jr. He is alleged to have killed three women, one to get her car.

Marion, I presume you can read. Since you're a gun cheerleader why not read the above link unless of course you are already all knowing. Perhaps you might learn even more.

All I need to know is that those that would disarm the American populace are those that would institute tyrranical government.
The rest is all trying to gin up hysteria in order to do so.
