Anyone who didn't vote, but is angry and disgusted at the prospect of a racist southern Senator being our next Attorney General or a conspiracy theorist as our CIA director has only themselves and every other nonvoter to blame. Elections matter and the winner gets to choose who will serve alongside him (and hopefully eventually her) during their term.
Senator Jeff Sessions from Alabama is Trump's pick for Attorney General. Sessions is a KKK apologist, doesn't see the need to stick up for civil and human rights, and is surely going to shift the DOJ in a very rightward direction. He was denied a Federal judgeship in 1986 due to the fact that he was a racist, but times have changed and racism is no longer a disqualifying factor in America. He is extremely anti-immigrant, especially towards people fleeing war torn in the Middle-East, which is somewhat ironic considering he voted to start wars in that part of the world. He will, without a doubt, work to limit the rights of minorities, the LGBTQ community, and other people who are disenfranchised. Oh, and don't even get me stared about his views on "religious freedom."
Representative Mike Pompeo from Kansas is Trump's pick for CIA director. Pompeo is one of the leading figures in the Benghazi conspiracy theory and coauthored a separate report with another right wing Representative alleging a vast cover up by Secretary Clinton and the Obama Administration. The report was short on facts and long on innuendo, but since when have facts mattered to Republicans? This man will now have the full backing of the CIA to dig into any conspiracy theory he so wishes.
This is what we get when people sit on their ass and don't vote or, even worse, vote for a third party candidate who stands zero chance of winning. We can't be surprised when a right wing zealot selects other right wing zealots to serve alongside him.
