Huffington Post, November 9, 2016: It’s Our Fault: Donald Trump Is The President We Deserve

I think this article exactly describes why we foolishly elected a Donald Trump. It is an excellent article, and I will certainly applaud those on this website who have highlighted our shortcomings and warnings to the point that we actually did commit a form of mindless political suicide.

I am still sick to my stomach the day after. I will forever look at my fellow Americans with suspicion and ask, "what in the world were you thinking?" It's insane that some 59 million plus of my fellow citizens voted for the worst candidate to run for the president in America's history and to beat one of the most qualified candidates to run for the office in our history. That says something about what we have become. It is ugly beyond words.

Schmidt, yes I've said so years ago; a couple of points were neglected by the article and that is the "education" here and "island" mentality. Down here they will not accept anything what "works" in other countries, like healthcare, voting systems, gun control, climate control (fine the polluters) etc. etc. The rural area's here are backwards and are in a lot of cases still living in 1800 and the only thing they believe is what the church tells them. Read all my mails about these issues; this country still has a lot to learn. I hope that your visit in S. Africa has opened your eyes about this country. I hope that people who scolded me about my remarks, realize now that I was correct after all. Can this guy now all of a sudden be trusted with the "nuclear" code and "button"? Don't let me laugh on how far we have sunk.

Hope the damage Trump does is reversible because he will only be a one term president. It is impossible for him to do anything counter imperialism. He will lose all his supporters and the Republicans will be without a constituency. Pick a good Democratic candidate because no matter who it is it will be a Democratic cakewalk into the next Presidency.

While I agree he's one term, the importance of his presidency and any presidency is the MF 'ing supreme court. He'll appoint at least 1 for dead Scalia and Ms. Ginsberg isn't looking to perky either. That's why all of those "protest 3rd party" votes seem like an f 'ing waste of time. In retrospect, thank you to all of them for their electoral brilliance. We are screwed in about 6 dozen ways now.

Tony, only screwed in 6 dozen ways? I can think of a lot more. How about his choice of "staff"? Danon and Guiliana in the White House? Pence and his "church" buddy's? His "empire" which he can use to become the "richest" man of the world. Which means we have chosen an "dictator" who thinks he can run the world.

The more I see on the news the worse it gets. What amazes me that all the protests take place in the cities, while the cities mostly voted Democrat. They should have their protests in the Rust, Bibble belts instead; however all these idiots have plenty of guns down there so it won't work. The best thing is to deport all these "rednecks" instead of the Mexicans.

Anyway if I see what Trump plans as his confidants, then it is an real Hitler group together, Heinrich, Himmler, Goering etc.

Cheap beer. When they take it to the streets because it's suddenly obvious that 'murica isn't improving and the hopeless poor are still the hopeless poor and there are obviously non white people at the grocery.... it will be brutally obvious that the deplorable ones were duped. When they march down the streets with guns in hand I hope they will have consumed plenty of cheap beer so they'll be easier to target.

Yes Dutch but the people who live in those places are the ones dumb enough to vote for any Republican so we won't find them protesting!

What amazes me are the Trump supporters who said the voted for him because they want a change - a change from what - a Republican controlled do nothing congress that doesn't give a dam about them so they elect a President from the same party based on a lot of BS and lies! These people truly are bigots and deplorable and they will never, ever understand why!

P.R. The "why" is simple; they refuse to accept the fact that the "industry" types they worked in never come back or need them because of "evolution"; robots or "computers will do the work not an coal miner's shovel, regardless that jobs have gone overseas because of cost. Factories want to make "profit" that is their goal and won't be changed because people want "work". So their only choice is move elsewhere, or start an "weed" farm or stay living like in the 1850's.

There are many good reasons why Trump was elected but the main one was the fact that less then half of the American people bothered to vote and there is a very good possibility that this time the whole country and all its people will suffer for their refusal to do their civic duty and because they have refused for generations to be responsible citizens this country is no longer a Republic.

Here is another view as we engage in post election analysis.

Sarah Churchwell, The Guardian: ‘Hillary Clinton didn’t fail us. We failed her’

We have dissected her every move, and held her to an extremely higher standard than any male who has ever run for office. And we blame her for not doing enough or running the wrong campaign. The fact is she did everything required to be president...she did her homework studiously, she was careful with her words, she had the vast experience to step into the job immediately; and she was destined to perhaps be the best president ever...except she was a woman running against one of the guys. It is America and their lazy stupidity that failed her. She can hold her head up high.

America should be ashamed. They owe her an apology big time for being such incompetent voters.

No, the DNC owes an apology for not recognizing and dealing with Trump's campaign.

Trump would counter imperialism? Please. Remember Trump has planned to get Isis as he knows more about Isis than anyone. He said so. I would bet that we will see troops on the ground in Syria followed or proceeded by troop increases in Iraq and afganistan. No, Donnie has no coherent foreign policy nor response to supposed threats like Isis. Of course the American love of militarism dovetails nicely with this so it really doesn't matter.

No Schmidt; it was pure an question of "homework" The point is 91% repeat 91% of "evangelicals" voted for Trump (as was said on TV), regardless of all the racism and bullying using the "f" word as well "groping" etc from Trump. They read the "bible" but don't follow it. Most evangelicals live indeed in the rural area's; they have nothing else than the church and the community bar. They hate LGBT people and "foreigners" as well the Washington "elite" . Their only objective as preached by the churches was to stop abortion; birth control; LGBT as well gay marriages ( The Kentucky "fat" lady issue) and of course Planned Parenthood.etc. Thus an combination of "church" influence and jobless country living. Trump spoke their "language" ; Hillary was seen (as I said before) "elite" with her nose up in the air and never quoted anything from the "bible" like Trump did, as an fake "tool" to get them aboard. Thus I hope the Dem's realize that you can't win here if you don't get the "church" to sing your tune.
