Russian meddling in our presidential race is retaliation because Ms. Clinton questioned fairness in a recent Russian election. Europe is quite worried. Previously we have been the only ones able or willing to stand up to the Russians.

While it should be common knowledge by now that Putin is systematically interfering in the US election, the use of WikiLeaks to attack Clinton has an even more sinister outcome. Many of the e-mails or other documents could be forged to make them more damning. As per the Huffington Post

Report: FBI Examining Fake Documents Targeting Clinton Campaign

"WASHINGTON, Nov 3 (Reuters) - The FBI and U.S. intelligence agencies are examining faked documents aimed at discrediting the Hillary Clinton campaign as part of a broader investigation into what U.S. officials believe has been an attempt by Russia to disrupt the presidential election, people with knowledge of the matter said."

"U.S. intelligence officials have warned privately that a campaign they believe is backed by the Russian government to undermine the credibility of the U.S. presidential election could move beyond the hacking of Democratic Party email systems. That could include posting fictional evidence of voter fraud or other disinformation in the run-up to voting on Nov. 8, U.S. officials have said."

It's the disinformation that can be worrisome for Clinton as Fox News, Breibart and others will run with it. I don't expect that James Comey to be an honest broker in these "leaks". Putin and the Russians will do everything they can to undermine our democracy. They know that once disinformation is released, it becomes very difficult change people's minds back to the truth. People believe what they want to believe. It is a form of psychological warfare.

Remember when Russia was considered - bad ? How easily they forget. Hillary condemned Russian elections in '11. Would DT ever have a negative word ? No. He's bought and paid for. This interference is very bad. Potus should be less of a lame duck and more of an active president. Disappointing. Mr. Obama doing NOTHING about the FBI and nothing about Russian interference has made me reduce my overall judgement of his career. He went from an A- to a B- without question. Further sitting on his ass amongst chaos could reduce it to a very average C. If he takes some control of matters and acts presidential (more than good campaign speeches) he could escalate again.

We don't necessarily know what President Obama is quietly doing behind the scenes. It's not his style to announce all the counter measures. Putin hates Obama (and Clinton) for the sanctions imposed on Russia following their invasion of Eastern Ukriane. It's taking its toll on the Russian economy.

President Obama does not control the FBI. He cannot fire Comey, although he appointed him. Comey has a 10 year term that he will serve out unless there is public pressure for him to resign.

I read that the head of the agency can be fired but it's very uncommon. Trying to alter the election is unprecedented considering it's not Hillary's computer. The dirt ball that the head of the campaign is connected with is slime and some of his mud will probably enter the water soon. Absolutely no relevance but it's bad behavior involving a minor from NC which just happens to be an important swing state. Mr. Obama can, and should do more. I think loser Republican book ends would make his presidency look that much better. So much for putting country over legacy.

The point is the Trump "mafia" will do anything to win; on the news there was an "issue" with an woman and Trump; Trump paid the newspaper 150 thousand dollars not to publish this "thing" . About the e-mails; most of them are more than 5 years old; since that time no damage ever has been done to our national security at all , so why because of just "broken rules" all the fuss about it. Who cares in the elections if a Weiner did something?. Anyway Guiliani had some dirty role in it for sure. Next thing: Melania worked here as an illegal for a while, but that is of course OK. The weird thing is she comes from a country which is more corrupt than Mexico ( they are known in Europe to be the greatest "scammers" and car jackers. Also the weird thing is (for an Presidents woman) she's not born here, (probably is not an citizen?) ; barely speaks the language etc. But this is of course fantastic because then the "white uneducated rednecks" all of a sudden approve an "foreigner" in the White House because Trump can do no harm; only "white" women or "black" men are dangerous; of course for Obama types other rules are applicable. What an country!!

Yes Tony I agree with what you said; the point is however: What can Obama do, if the media only cooperates with Trump? Trump will also find out if he gets into the White House that he has no power and is only allowed to sign things and hand out medals and give speeches or shake hands and have plenty of dinners with the rich.

Europe being "scared"; you must be kidding. Europe would love to become independent and run their own show. They are loosing an lot of money by supporting the US in all their "loosing" wars. They rather spent that on infrastructure and caring for the refugee's who flooded Europe thanks to the US created wars.

538 has stabilized. It advanced Trump quite a bit but has not moved more than a tenth of a point in the last 24 hours. In other words after a trending gain for Trump over thee days Trump has not moved more than a tenth in the last twenty four hours.

Internet is talking about voter intimidation. Virginia - armed man wearing a Trump shirt told by police to "cover his weapon". He was intimidating voters. If he was not white, he would be dead.

Arkansas, crazed white man yells at (non-white) voters and tells them to go home. These 2 cases are probably just the tip of the iceberg.

If Trump loses Tuesday, grab a torch and pitchfork because the deplorable ones with guns will show how laws don't apply to them.

It's a pathetic and sad time in America. It could get far worse in a few days.

Making America great again ? Sad.

TJ -- Yes I stand corrected. The President can indeed fire Comey. I don't think Obama will, but Hillary Clinton can demand his resignation (if elected) and if he refuses, then fire him with cause. It is as you point out, very uncommon. But these are uncommon days now with the Trump nomination.

I hope she does the minute she wins!!! Why is it that nothing but nothing "sticks" onto trump, but everything on Hillary?

I guess he invented an new "shield' which protects him from everything, but Hillary has got something which sticks like glue for all "negativity" which is thrown her way. What is wrong with this country; no more "normal" thinking people?

Indeed the "media" should be jailed by continously having only attention to Trump, as well advises him what to do to win. Filthy basterds for sure.

Europe is just as much to blame for the rise of Putin as the U.S. The west phucqued up big time with their support of rapid privatization after the collapse of the ussr. Europe sat by and watched it happen. And what did people think would happen when scores of state industries and companies are sold off? A Jeffersonian democracy? A chicken in every pot?

or maybe, just maybe, fertile ground for a demagogue, a charlatan who wields nationalism, xenophobia while promising the world to his followers?

this script sounds so familiar. Where have we heard this before, perhaps even recently?
