Huffington Post: Matt Lauer Failed The Moderator Test

I watched the Commander-in-Chief Forum last night hosted by NBC's Matt Lauer. Hillary Clinton answered questions for the first half hour and right off the bat Lauer started grilling Clinton on her e-mails interrupting her on several occasions. Nevertheless, she answered the questions clearly in the language military folks should understand.

On other questions she showed why she is the clear choice for Commander-in-Chief displaying knowledge and insight on how foreign policy works. Rachel Maddow afterward piled on her comment that she would not use ground troops to defeat ISIS in Iraq and Syria. "We have 5,000 troops now" Rachel repeated again and again. Clinton has repeatedly differentiated between "boots on the ground" and the special forces being used for quick attacks, but Rachel sees them all as "boots on the ground" and suggested that Clinton wasn't being honest.

Trump got a free ride from Lauer. Despite being asked to not make it political he continually blasted both Obama and Clinton throughout his half hour. It was excruciating for me to watch as Trump was not questioned on his lies. He repeatedly said that he never supported the Iraq war citing a 2004 interview with Esquire. But as everyone in the media knows, there are tapes of Trump showing his support for the Iraq war before the war and after the war as Hillary claimed. This is a "no brainer" yet Lauer never challenged him on it as he had done with Clinton on her e-mails.

Huffington Post: Donald Trump: Generals ‘Reduced To Rubble’ Under Obama, Clinton

Trump's answers on military generals being "reduced to rubble" under Obama and Clinton was startling in itself and showed no knowledge on how the military works. But he got a free ride on that as well. Equally stupid was Trump's suggestion that we should have taken the oil in Iraq and if we had ISIS would not exist. Really really stupid.

However, the real eyebrow opener was Trump's claim that during his two CISA briefings he said that Obama had gone against the advice of the CIA. How did he know this? From the body language of the CIA representatives giving the briefing to Trump. Well he got a free ride on that as well from Lauer.

I wonder about this. NBC and MSNBC both being "for profit media" are seemingly willing to give Trump a pass while Clinton's e-mails are the number one subject on both channels day after day after day. Somebody high up in the organization has decided that they will make the Clinton e-mail story the number one story on every one of their programs. I am sick of hearing about Clinton's e-mails.

Trump is going to get a free ride from the media. His narcissistic personality combined with the corporate media's addiction to "access" as opposed to actually doing their jobs means he gets softball interviews. And when you add in "we the people"'s addiction to spectacle this is the end result.

i do agree with Rachel Maddow. It doesn't matter whether they are quick strike forces or not. If they are there they are boots on the ground. Tap-dancing around words does no good and makes people look suspicious even if the actual situation is not.

Schmidt; I hope you are now finally agreeing that the selection of these candidates is the worst in history. Neither one is suited to become president. You keep saying that Hillary has "experience"; I don't believe so. As you know I traveled the whole world and "worked" at certain places; Hillary only shook hands stayed in protected hotels and only saw heads of any such country. This way you only may be get to know what you hear at these meetings; but don't get the real knowledge about what actually is important in any such country. Her judgement about an lot of things prove such.

On the "military" side; I guess you know my position; it is time that we stop meddling in the world and correct all our own stupid mistakes etc. in this country, before we invade or tell other countries what to do. We only need an small military force to protect our borders and nuclear arsenal; which we should not "park" those close to an "war" zone. NUTS. Why do we need billion dollar warships? Why do we need hundreds of "generals"? Every day you read about our meddling in the world; let's clean up the mess here first; like our full jails, our drug deaths, our gun killings, our "homeless" our lack of infrastructure, our polluted waterways, lakes and shorelines, our poluted air by "schoolbusses and trucks, powerplants and industry. Stop our never ending military waste; Arlington is already "full". NONE OF THE CANDIDATES HAVE AN "VISION" ABOUT THE ROLE OF THE MILITARY. Right now this country has no "direction"; we just f.... around.

Dutch -- With respect to Hillary Clinton, let me be clear. She is highly qualified to be President and Commander-in-chief. I absolutely disagree with your point about her experience. I will be proud to have her as my president and will sleep well knowing she is our Commander-in-Chief. I have said that before and I'll say it again and again.

Her performance at the Commander-in-Chief forum only reinforces my view.

Schmidt, you've got the "blinders" on; she knows nothing about "wars" and how to prevent them. Your answer is "head in the sand" Sorry she has no clue about the real world out there. Some of the things Trump says about our foreign policies even make sense; like he said about our "invasions" all over the place; including Iraq. Wake up Schmidt; you normally know things perfectly, why not now?

lonely bird, Hillary has good training for ferreting out the literal meaning of words, remember this in his Lewinsky testimony:

"Bill Clinton really is a guy who's willing to think carefully about "what the meaning of the word 'is' is." "

Schmidt, I don't know how anybody could go to sleep feeling safe and secure after hearing her laughing at Gaddafi's death. It was her saying "we came, we saw, he died". Then she laughed. Not presidential since she had just killed him.

Schmidt, As usual I agree with everything you said. I too would be happy and comfortable with her being my president and commander in chief.

For those leaning to the right, watch out. The link I'm posting below has "facts" in it.

T.J. just wait; she will keep making mistakes, because of her arrogance being an Clinton. I'll talk to you again when she creates the next disaster like she did with Ghadafi etc.

Don't know as I'll be comfortable but I'll feel a lot better than if either of the three other losers are President.

I am no fan of the Clintons by any means, but Donald Trump cannot be President. It's as simple as that.

That's just too much crazy to bring in the White House.

That's all that needs to be said about this nonsense.

But yeah, it will be a lot more "fun" with Trump and all his "lady's". With Clinton the only fun is when she smashes her cellphones with an hammer, while Bill screws around with some non pantsuit secretary.

Some repubs still don't want him to be pres. They've bought ads in some swing states. Interesting.
