Dallas Morning News, September 7, 2016: We recommend Hillary Clinton for president

There is only one serious candidate on the presidential ballot in November. We recommend Hillary Clinton.

We don't come to this decision easily. This newspaper has not recommended a Democrat for the nation's highest office since before World War II — if you're counting, that's more than 75 years and nearly 20 elections. The party's over-reliance on government and regulation to remedy the country's ills is at odds with our belief in private-sector ingenuity and innovation. Our values are more about individual liberty, free markets and a strong national defense.

Please read the entire editorial at the above link on why they support Secretary Clinton. This is a big f**kin deal. And now polls are showing that Texas could go blue in the general election. That would really be great.

We're talking about Tejas ? 75 years wow.... proof that eventually people can (will, perhaps not) think for themselves. Great news at a time where I'll take any decent news.

Don't let me laugh; TX has always voted Republican ask Perry; likely they love Trumps deportation plan as well.

Dutch, I know that. If you read the words, Dallas newspaper is recommending Hillary Clinton. I don't think that 65% of Texans are thinking clearly but at least somebody in the state is.

I was just reading that is a "Conservative" newspaper and the second Texan paper to recommend her. This paper is said to have 5 million readers. That makes this a big deal.

Good for you cornchip. Welcome to the site. We always encourage new thoughts, ideas, observations, and opinions.

I'm from Ohio but now living in Florida and I plan to vote for Hillary as well. I saw something interesting today from a 30 year member of the republican party who even has a pro republican web site. He expressed how he is not happy with his party and was officially leaving their party. I hope to find the link and post it here because his explanation was very clear and logical. This gave me new hope that things might one day improve.

Texas was actually a reliably Democratic state until southern Democrats switched their political affiliation to the Republican Party in the late 70's/early 80's.

The Democratic and Republican parties used to look far differently than they do today only a few decades ago. Nixon and later Reagan changed that by deploying a southern strategy that capitalized on disgruntled racist Democrats who were upset with the Civil Rights movement.

Texas can very well turn blue again, but it won't be this election cycle. Non-whites are registering to vote at a higher rate than their white counterparts and the old guard in Texas are dying off. Hispanics currently make up 39% of the total population and nearly 5 million Hispanics are registered to vote in Texas. That is only going to grow as we move forward.

I honestly won't be surprised if Texas turns blue by 2020 or 2024. That is why Republicans in so many states are moving to make it as hard as possible to vote. They know they are facing severe headwinds and are trying to put up as many roadblocks as possible, but it will only work for so long before it all comes tumbling down.

Please forgive me, but I'm a newbie and didn't know where to put this topic or how to start a topic, and it's kind of along this discussion line..

And I'd say for sure THAT is when they should know voting Trump is dangerous unless they are totally brain dead ;)

cornchip -- Yes welcome to the Democratic Hub. I'm not sure former president George H.W. Bush intended that bit of news to become public knowledge but it certainly makes sense. All of the Bush family certainly despises Trump, not only for what he did to Jeb, but also how the guy is so unprofessional and unqualified to be president. Even Laura Bush hinted quite strongly that she would be voting for Hillary, although she didn't mention her by name.

I don't see any of the Bush clan voting for Gary Johnson either. They will all put country first and quietly vote for Hillary Clinton without making it into a public headline. Jeb might say otherwise, but it's hard to see him voting for Trump. Never.

And this thread is a good place to put that bit of news. If you browse, you will notice that we are not very disciplined about staying on topic. That rule is less adhered to than some of the others.

There was a television awards show a couple of nights ago. Jeb Bush did a cameo spoof where he picked up the shows star as a Uber driver. He said it pays 12.00 per hour and he was between jobs. It was short but he poked some fun at himself and the political process.
