Somebody left a comment saying "NOSTALGIA OVERDRIVE"

    lol

First of all, I'm not nostalgic for any time period before, as there is no time period before us that was any better than today, but the problem is, is that change for the better is now seriously threatened by change that is in fact backwards... to a time before regulation and modern laws.

Second of all, I'm certainly not nostalgic for a time period before anything that I take for granted even first existed, back when the earth's landmass would have been a recipe for conflict by being just 1 piece, and dominated by infertile desert land, and there the biggest food supply that humans could have gotten our hands on was insects.

Dinosaurs are not extinct, ask Trump; I guess he needs some "new" blood.

SandyLady -- In our political discourse, we lose sight of the fact that there is indeed no time period better for us than today. Of course many of us have an almost romantic view of the past as measured by our memories of happy events. President Obama speaks candidly of how much progress we have made over the past few decades, particularly in the area of civil rights, and no he doesn't want to go back to that period. He also has a positive optimistic view of humans and Americans in particular that we will move beyond our divisiveness. I like that he is not a gloom and doom president.

I fully agree that we are a society of laws, but often the laws are ignored or unevenly applied. Justice is not served for many victims of violence, and that especially includes rape victims. I think we are getting better, and if I make comparisons to my boyhood in the 1950s and 1960s, life for everyone is indeed better today. Nevertheless, minorities, women and the LGBT community are still having to jump higher hurdles than their white male counterparts. For those of my baby boomer generation (old white men) so enamored with the past, their anger and resentment has perhaps more to do with their changing social status in life rather than their economic status.

Justice is not served for many victims of violence.

The stuff that I have been the victim of is tremendous, beyond your wildest imagination... verbal and emotional abuse by local thugs...

And constantly in fights, for years, never got beat in a fight, the closest match was a stalemate.

So I've also been the victim of assaults constantly... a few times they tried to stab me.

I lost a friend that owned a pizza place, to somebody with a 9mm Beretta.... and twice my house was stormed by gangs that we had to blockade and shoot.

    And two attempted robberies.

The cops would never do anything about any of it.

I'm also self employed, because the hurdles have been way too high in my life.
