Having the most powerful military does not guarantee its use will bring about the desired results and since that disaster called Vietnam such use has lead to one disaster after another for many countries the U.S. Military has fought in with the result these countries have been devastated with enormous loss of life.

It is time America got out of the war and arms business at a cost of trillions with only negative results and use these funds to rebuild America and create millions of jobs.

I by no means am a big fan of the military industrial complex, but the sad truth of the matter is that it does employ millions of Americans. The vast majority of these jobs are in rural and small town America who would be decimated if we slashed military spending.

We have unfortunately set up a situation where our military spending is a jobs program for millions of Americans. These jobs are spread throughout the country and in many swing states. That is why we can't ever get out of the endless cycle of military spending because politicians are terrified of voting to slash thousands of jobs in their states.

Jared, what an horrible excuse!!!!!! Put these people to work to fix the infrastructure, at least you get then something back for your taxes as well less young people who are cripple or nuts or join the police and shoot to kill. Wake up Jared, we kill more of our own people than terrorist do. Not one country in the world will invade us or would want to have this country. Also don't forget we've got the biggest nuke arsenal in the world. So we don't need an huge army. We should stop meddling in the world; we've got the UN to do that. The arrogance that we run the world has to stop. Let's create jobs which give an return to our society; not to kill other people who we never met or test out our fantastic killing tools for which we paid dearly in our taxes and will turn to rust once parked in the desert or shipyard.

Where in my response did I give an excuse for anything? I merely stated things that were facts.

Many states are spending tremendous amounts on new infrastructure projects; others aren't. Your wonderful governor would rather let your infrastructure go to shit, but governments on the west coast are investing billions upon billions of dollars on new infrastructure. Hell, you can't go more than a few blocks without seeing a new building under construction in Portland, Seattle, San Francisco, or Los Angeles.

I'm wide awake Dutch. I'm just not as vitriolic as you.

All I was trying to explain to Connie is the reason why our politicians never cut military spending. The vast majority of spending is, in fact, a jobs program and not on foreign wars. I would love nothing more than to redirect that spending to interstate infrastructure projects and clean energy jobs programs, but we have to elect politicians who aren't afraid to vote to do that.

Bitching and moaning about it won't do anyone any good at all.

Jared, I repeat what you said: I merely stated things that were facts.

Just now on the news we are selling an huge amount of weapons to Saudia Arabia to have them bomb everything in Yemen, even hospitals. Guess who is making "money" over the dead patients and kids etc.??? Don't you love such "jobs program". Just wave your flag Jared. Sorry, Connie is 100% correct.

You were stating your opinions, not facts. Facts and opinions are two entirely different things.

I don't own a flag Dutch. I also don't blame people who are just trying to make a living for all the ills going on in the world.

There is lots to be said about all the ill will the Pentagon is causing around the globe.

The defense contractor employees may make a living wage, but the execs make a killing.

I suspect we are enriching CEOs much more that average workers.

You are correct that there is some kind of contract arrangement in almost ever congressional district. However, this is just over the top.

In the same category, the F35 has gone off the charts on budget overruns.

I agree with the poster who states that some of these people could be working on our crumbling infrastructure. I'm sure we could get more bang for the buck there.

I am afraid I didn't make myself clear regarding America's endless wars and arms dealing, these activities the U.S. Government is involved in are considered war crimes and I do not believe that America should be involved in such criminal activities because the truth is all this activities are wrong and immoral and degrades everything noble and every good thing this country once stood for.
