I wanted to bring this to everyone's attention, just in case anyone missed it. Hillary did a great job introducing this man. It's a heart breaking speech from a father who lost his son, Captain. Humayun Khan, when a car bomb exploded. One of the points in Mr. Khan's speech that really stirred me to thought, was when he said that Donald Trump wants to build walls to keep immigrants out. That alone provoked a thought that Trump not only wants to build walls to keep people out, he wants to build walls between everyone. A country divided is an ideal country for someone like him and his party.
JFoster, Thank you for sharing this. I had not watched the segment. I enjoyed it.
Frankly I am worried about the Nov. election because it all seems so important and every day on the news I see more large waves of very ignorant people. It's so clear that once you make a decision, it doesn't matter how much information you add or how many facts are sprinkled on top..... Some people will die chanting " She had e mails !!!!! My god, she was e mailing several times a day.....she should be in jail" It's sad there weren't more interesting things to accuse her of.
Thanks for sharing. I had watched it live, but it's worth sharing. And yes, the Trump campaign with the help of the Republican Party "professionals" are continually seeking ways to divide us. No where do they try to convince us that their party platform is better. Rather it's divide and conquer.
TJ is right about the way some middle class workers in their ignorance support Trump over Clinton. They can agree with 98 percent of the things in her proposals if they took the time to study her website, and they might disagree with Trump on many key issues, but they still "hate Hillary" so much they'll vote for Trump.
Which brings me to another point. I wonder how many of the Bernie supports are true Bernie supporters if they say that they are voting for Trump. Some of them could be Republican plants meant to stir hate, much like the trolls you see writing commentary on websites. I cannot believe that any self professed Democrat is that stupid.
I served with a Muslim while in the service, he was my first encounter with a Muslim, he followed the teachings of Malcom X. I never questioned anything about his beliefs and this was during the time of the rise of the Black Power Movement back in the States, and he in turn never brought any discredit to his faith, he followed orders and fought along side all of us, I never saw him doing any of the prayer obligations that many Muslims adhere to, although he may have done this in private , he was a good soldier, I never heard him talk down on anyone and he was always in the first group to help anyone, when I came home and saw what the Black Power Movement and the Black Muslims were about , I couldn't believe that this was the faith of the man that I knew, he survived the war , as far as I know, but there were and are many different cultures represented in the Armed Services and the vast majority serve honorably and with distinction, but like anything else there are some bad eggs, this gentlemen was not one of them.
Dutch -- You are missing the main point. As you note, our country certainly has millions of Muslims that serve our country in many capacities. Captain Kahn died in military service, and he could just as well have died as a policeman protecting lives or as a fireman or as an ordinary citizen, a teacher perhaps, doing extraordinary things. Our Muslim citizens are indeed very much an important part of our society doing wonderful things, but Donald Trump is stirring up hate against them on religious grounds and proposing to ban them from entry into the USA.
If Donald Trump had not said the outrageous things about Muslims, we would never have known about Captain Kahn's heroism. Would a school teacher speaking out have been just as effective? No. This is hitting Trump where it hurts...his American patriotism. Captain Kahn's mother and father have done the right thing...exposing the underlying hate of the Trump campaign against any immigrants. It is more effective because they are Gold Star parents and because their son died serving our country.
Sure Democrats are exploiting the situation just like Republicans exploit Hillary Clinton's e-mails. However, should we just leave it lie..."that's just Trump...ha ha. He entertains us. No harm done."
NO!
